No Drugs, Alcohol In System Of Wrong-Way Driver In Fatal Route 50 Crash

There were no drugs or alcohol found in the system of the wrong-way driver in a fatal crash on Route 50 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland State Police said.

Toxicology tests reveal no signs of drug or alcohol in the system of 22-year-old Laura Murphy, police said. She was killed in a crash after going the wrong way on Route 50 near Annapolis on May 17.

Murphy was traveling west in eastbound lanes before she struck a vehicle, killing Robert Skidmore, 66, police said. Murphy’s 14-month-old toddler was hospitalized after the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.

  1. Do the phone records show that she could have been distracted? This is terrible. So young.

  2. very sad. i would guess that she was either using voice navigation which took her on the wrong ramp at that tricky interchange or she was distracted from texting.

  3. It's easy to turn the wrong way on Busch's Frontage Road leaving WaWa. That section should be redesigned immediately so that no one else ever makes the same mistake.

It's actually not that easy. It's a merge lane so you would have to make a pretty hard left to go the wrong way. It could be she went out the in exit which is west of the WaWa.
