Teen gets off light for throwing elderly woman into pool

Three weeks of home detention with breaks allowed for school, church and even basketball practice. That’s the sentence handed down by a Broward County, Florida judge against a 16-year-old charged with assaulting an elderly woman.

The incident occurred at the Player’s Place apartment complex Saturday, where a loud party with over 200 attendees was being held in the pool area. Building resident Nancy James, 68, who is also on the association board thereat, called the noise complaint into the police and went downstairs with her two dogs to ask the party goers if they could lower the music.

James was then surrounded by a group of teenagers and one, later arrested and identified as Leon Balfour, grabbed her, picked her up and slammed her to the ground before picking her back up and throwing her into the swimming pool.

  7. Terrible decision by this judge. This child will not learn from this mistake. At 16, you should surely know better and home detention with video games is no punishment at all.

  9. So you can assault a person and be sent to your room. Make him do 500 hours of community service. It has to be done while he is off school for the summer. You have to make punishment something they do NOT like. Sitting at home playing games and having friends come visit is NO punishment. Once he does the 500 hours of community service he needs to get a job after school so he can pay for her medical bills.

  10. He also needs to be charged with Federal "Hate Crime", laws and also "Civil Rights" violations. (This crap happens to white guys all the time when the black are appeased).

  11. This kid is going to be a hero in his community, if he isn't already.
My only comfort on this slap on the wrist penalty he received is that I have no doubt whatsoever that he'll be back in the system very quickly.
He'll need to back-up his badass "thug" rep very soon.
    And he will.

  12. Fake news. The punk has been released on home detention until his next court date. This is not his sentence - has not been convicted of any crime yet. Save your outrage until he is actually sentenced.

  13. This is his bail. Not convicted of anything. Has court date in June.

You think he liked her. What would he have done if had not liked her. He needs to be dealt with.
