Vincinity of Seacreats
ReplyDeleteAt 1130 last night the inlet was grid locked due to people stopping 2 lanes of traffic due to burn outs. You smelled the smoke before you even knew what was causing it. I sure hope OCPD utilizes the cameras and tickets each and every o e of them including the person who was in the middle orchestrating it.
ReplyDeletePrayers for this young man's family. Cross walks are so important.

ReplyDeleteSeacrets it at 49th Street. There are several bars in and around that area. Why single out just one?
Why mention anything about bars ?pedestrian and driver responsible for there own actions.
DeleteThe first one of the year. There will be many to follow.
ReplyDeleteand so it begins. another year and more idiots doing the dumbest things they would never attempt to do at home!
ReplyDeleteAt 45th street there are TWO light controlled crosswalks. The next is nearer Seacrets. The accident was between (near) these crossings not at either. The victim crossed from (near) the BB&T bank where the lighting is poor to the east where all the bars are. Many drivers in town this week were not behaving where the accident occurred.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the center barrier was delayed this year. The guy would most likely be alive.
ReplyDeleteThis is a 5 block area. I don't see the barrier changing a thing. OC had motorcycle cops from WI, WOR, State, and the normal OC. Traffic was a mess Downtown and I saw only bus drivers making any effort at traffic control (where were all the cops?). Could the lack of traffic control and enforcement n the area of 45st have contributed to this death? We may never know.
Deleteim just surprised there were not more accidents. a bunch of idiots in town acting like idiots. I hope the town gets a handle on these cruisers. did anyone see the wawa up north. there was a car that exploded at the gas pumps, the fire dept. had trouble getting into the lot for all the people.its only a matter of time before more people are injured or killed by these out of control cars.
ReplyDeleteThe guy would be alive if he used the cross walks and waited for signal to cross.
ReplyDeleteNo he wouldn't. The scumbag drunk driver blew through this and other red lights. Know your facts before you make statements f-tard
DeleteComplete BS you idiot! I was there, driver had green light, ped was responsible.
DeleteThere was more than one thing that contributed to this tragedy. Failure to cross directly in a crosswalk, alcohol, speed....My husband was present and made the first call to police/EMS. Everyone should hold their judgments and opinions until all of the facts are known. Bottom line, it was tragic and there are loved ones on all sides who are affected by this incident, and they do not need armchair quarterbacks making their pain and suffering any worse. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families, responders, and the bystanders and witnesses who did not rest easy last night. Please stay safe and be careful out there.
ReplyDeleteWell said. J.R.was a great kid. This is profoundly tragic...
Delete10:26 is just another local without enough education or intelligence to express himself without calling people names. You are about as smart as the person that runs across a highway after 2:00 am. Hmmm, bars closing, there won't be any drunks on the road, I think i'll cross the road not at a light or a crosswalk. Bad life choices on both of the involved parties.
ReplyDeleteBoth are were in the wrong in some way. You have to wonder if alcohol played a roll in both of their bad judgements.
ReplyDeleteMany of the drivers were already out of control at 3:00 in the afternoon on Friday. As currently organized, this event is a magnet for disaster. While there were some really cool classic cars there, there were plenty of drunks around with wannabe muscle cars and very bad judgement, not to mention the throngs of stupid and/or drunk people lining the streets like they were watching a parade. I don't think the miscreants among them contribute much to the local economy given what it must cost to try to police them and what I saw definitely isn't "family friendly."
ReplyDelete1 out of TENS of thousands. 1 is WAY too many however this was a weekend sponsored event that generates revenue for the 10 mile ONLY beach resort in MD. No different than other entertainment events which host TENS of thousands of folks. Cruisers do contribute to the City, just like all other functions that happen before, during and after the beach season. Unfortunately death happens everyday in all shapes sizes and forms.
ReplyDeleteBetter to get on board with this and other events because nothing is changing in the near future; OC is a huge revenue generator for the state; and it is a resort first.
I'm really surprised there weren't more. I waited at the light on 120th for one cycle and saw a 3 near misses...literally people having to jump out of the way for fear of being hit- ALL IN THE DAMN CROSSWALK!!
ReplyDeleteI hate this weekend, especially when they start their cars and rev their engines at 5am!!
Must be the largest little-LDS convention in the world!
I was there when it happened. Prior too multiple people played games crossing. Taking there time and playing with traffic. It was ten feet from where I stood. It was unavoidable. He was in median took one step and got hit. Prayers to friends and family
DeleteI was walking away from seacrets when we heard everything. We ran across the street because my buddy is a cop and wanted to help. I was too messed up to take in the scene as a whole but this accident has been weighing heavily on me the past couple days. I know the driver was under the influence but was he really going crazy fast? Or was JR just too drunk and stepped out into the street? People are probably mad at the driver but I want to make sure he just wasn't in the wrong place at the wrong time as well before putting all the blame on him. Either way it's a damn tragedy someone was killed while having maybe a little too much fun. It could happen to anyone and makes you think about life in a different light. Love everyone and be careful.
DeleteIt's been asked earlier. Where was any attempt at traffic control? All I saw were transportation (bus) people making an effort to control traffic so bus passengers could get off the bus safely. What were all those external agency officers there for, entertainment? The entire downtown was gridlocked and we hear instances of driver lawlessness at other parts of town. Crosswalks do no good when there is runaway lawlessness and no attempt to control it.
ReplyDeleteOne only needs to drive across the Route 50 drawbridge to view the evidence of the lawlessness that took over the town. It looks as if someone was trying to repave the road with rubber. I'm sure the irresponsible drivers who left the marks had a green light too. For the benefit of the individual who would hint that a green light somehow negates the right of way of a pedestrian that is not the case. The Dragstrip where many of these cars should be restricted to, take measure to protect bystanders such as guard rails. Coastal highway has no such protection and in fact parents will pull infants in carts behind their bikes in the bike/bus lane. I saw the car involved in this accident about 5:30AM Sunday sitting on a rollback. The damage done to the front of this car was not something you might expect by by driving into a hay bale at under 35MPH. Yes, green light or not, that is the speed limit on Coastal Hwy south of Route 90.
ReplyDeleteDriver was charged with DUI. But what will the autopsy say about the pedestrian's blood alcohol level? Whatever it was, it will impact the outcome of the inevitable "wrongful death" lawsuit to follow.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much emphasis on the fact that the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk. Since the driver was drunk and has had multiple prior convictions would that have mattered? He most likely would have run the red light and the result would have been the same. As a homeowner in OC, the mayor will be hearing from me about what a disgrace cruise week was for the community. The income it will lose from families not wanting to vacation in OC will outweigh its profits from this one uncontrolled event. The man who died was a good man with a loving family.

ReplyDelete"...the mayor will be hearing from me about what a disgrace cruise week was for the community."
I hope you are kidding.
How could you possibly think that the mayor - or anyone else - could control the behavior of a handful of the total number of the participants of any group gathering or event in Ocean City?
While you're at it, bring up the following "disgraces" the mayor should address:
1. June Week: There was fights. Bad language. Drug use. No respect for authority.
2. Bike Week. Noisy motorcycles.
3. OctoberFest: Drunk Germans.
4. FireFighters' Week: Drunk firefighters. Huge traffic jam due to their parade.
5. Fourth of July: Private citizens setting off illegal fireworks.
You may as well tell him about all these events while you have his ear.
I'm sure he'll act on them immediately.
And finally, Mr. or Mrs. Homeowner, "If you don't like planes, don't move so close to the airport."
Please don't come to our town. You are the type that we don't want. Keep out!!!
DeleteTo:2:16
ReplyDeleteYou clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Planes? Airports? People like you ruin nice events. What you cited was not even close to what happened this weekend. Your statements were a joke. Makes no sense. Since you don't understand, why don't you keep away from OC.
To: 2:16
ReplyDelete"One uncontrolled event" please know what your talking about before you commevt.
The airport comments is valid. We camp in West OC and have noticed a real increase in loud low flying planes and helicopters in and out of the airport. Made our trip last fall hard to sleep. I know locals don't care if campers come or go.....but it is income and the camp ground was so very nice.
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs to be more responsible, not only for your own actions, but the actions of your friends.
ReplyDeleteLearn from the tragety, take your friends keys when they drink, Walk your friend home. Friends take care of friends. I am pretty sure that these two men didnt go to OC by themselves.
Prayers to the families,
