Question to County home owners. Do you want to be annexed into the City of Salisbury or any municipality for water and sewer services if several lots around you have a failing septic system?

DeleteNO, but i'm sure the city will still try... It is all about money and taking it from you... And those of you who think this is a good idea and would say yes, you better think long and hard, when your house is taken from you, becasue you can't pay a sewer or water bill... And those who think it won't or can't happen, ask those who HAVE HAD it happen... Hell they even had to pass a law to make sure people at least get a year to pay it off before their house is seized... And do you want your house to be seized over a 200 dollar water bill when your house is paid off and cost 200k or more??? And remember, the logic behind this would be, you can't be clean or sanitary without water or sewer, so your house gets condemned...

ReplyDeleteI selected my residence in the county knowing how messed up the city already was. I wouldn't do it with a permanent city tax exemption and free water and sewer...which is what I have now! The people, politics, freeloaders, and dumbocrats can keep the place for themselves!

ReplyDeleteThe Hunting Park area has water and seeer through an agreement. They pay an up charge for the service, but remain non-municipal county residents. It can be an excellent solution.

ReplyDeleteMaybe Dodd should do some research on all those people were FORCED to go on city services and pay THOUSANDS for it when their neighbors wells were contaminated. Why is he asking such a stupid question on a blog. Those who were FORCED into it had an opinion against it and that didn't matter.

If you're in a soil area where failure is a given then that's possibly an answer, but running sewer and water simply opens the possibility of multi unit developments/ more Apts/ Sect 8 housing, and many other dense development that would spoil the neighborhood. Gov't ideals seems to always favor the wrong side in the end!

ReplyDeleteMy well failed last month. Got a new well, new well pump, and it only set me back 4k from Daisy's.
WHY so much ? most wells only need the pump replaced $200 unless your well collapsed in on its self? my bet is u got ripped off by the Good ole eastern shore BOYS.

DeleteI friends who live who live on Pemberton Drive in Salisbury. When they moved to their home in the nineties, they were outside of city limits. They built a development behind them and incorporated their property into city limits. When their Septic needed some work, they were told they had no choice but to go on city water and sewer. They have no city services, but have to now pay for the connection and installation and they have a perfectly good well and will now be pay for water probably drawing from the same aquifer to the city of Salisbury. They know people are living out of the county to avoid the City taxes and fees. But eventually the city will come and annex your property. I worry about this now. I live West of Salisbury near Hebron. They have already annexed the some areas at the Westwood Development on Naylor Mill road. I believe they are expanding, not for progress, but for revenue purposes!
ReplyDeleteNever ever, no way, not until Salisbury gets some grown up leadership that establishes a track record of significantly improved infrastructure, a model of crime reduction that would be the envy of cities throughout the country, and rids itself of public figures who can't speak good English, don't demonstrate an intelligence level below moron, and take an active interest in improving the lifestyle of all residents. Maybe, MAYBE, then.

No !!!! Salisbury needs to clean up their district boundaries instead of this piece mill crap they have now. You have roads that one block is in and the next block is out, the next in it's ridiculous. All for the money that's why they did it, the area of the bypass by Naylor Mill business tax dollars. Now they want to go after developments. This also makes a problem for fire and ambulance service and Salisbury traveling thru other fire districts to get to these areas well outside the city limits.

ReplyDeleteLarry it's clear no body wants any thing to do with the city. Kinda like the fire agreement the county needs to grow up and stop funding the city and wasting our taxes. Cut the city and own the county instead of fake day pimping the county . This is really getting old the city gets more and more from the county every year and you all keep giving in . Why do you all run for your positions just to get walked on by the city of Salisbury. Cut ties with them and do us a favor .

You obviously don't know what's going on because of this stupid remark! Are you watching the County Council meetings? Are you paying attention? Obviously not.
This has nothing to do with sewer and water drilling because that is not the options. Quit making stupid comments.

It's not up to the county to fix YOUR failing septic system. Since there is a high probability that you won't have a septic system then you can't live in your house. There are options on the table and I believe Mr. Dodd wants to know if you really want to be annexed into the city because it sounds like there are not many options and it comes at a cost. Mr. Dodd's question does not indicate that he thinks annexation just for water and sewer is an option. If you were at the county council meeting or watched it on TV then you will see that there was a long discussion and the Executives Office, his staff and Pete Bozick is pushing for the city annexation into those areas. Apparently Jake Day told Bob Culver that the city would not supply water and sewer into those areas unless they are annexed.
I just looked at a map of the city and there seems to be a lot of area that are clearly exempt from the city limits that I would consider city. One area that sticks out is the all the car dealerships on Rt 13.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading the comments, I had no intention of posting until now. To answer your question, we pay more than residents for this service only. I was forced in it during in the good ole Paul Martin Days. My neighborhood didn't want this and after talking with good ole Martin about the extremely high cost, he actually laughed. Why would anyone want to be in a system that has proved to have one problem after another at the plant by the city leaders (no pun intended), for years. That's the bad, the good is I have never experienced any problem other than recently discovering the city had charged me the ridiculous bay fee by error when it was already added to property taxes. I was being double charged since the beginning (I think 2007). I admit it was my stupidity to trust that local government would charge correct. I don't like owing anyone and pay as soon as it arrives, therefore not checking it out. I would still be paying it if a neighbor had not discovered it and asked me about it. I was told by the city that these records are kept only three years and I was refunded those three, even though I had record of paying each year form the beginning. I will also add that there was no problem downtown with the lady that took care of this, very competent and caring. "Just say no" to annex.
