Prayers for those involved and come on with a bit of PATIENCE for everyone else here on out!!!! We don't live in a major metro area like those on the west side of the Bay Bridge - always in a hurry and the 1st (FIRST) to bring that type of attitude to our shores every summer!
I went by there the other day and some guy came flying up to the crossover without stopping and took a left onto the west bound fast lane I had to slam on brakes because it was impossible to determine where he was going.
What I have notice a few times are drives that want to cross will take a chance because they do not want to wait for a long line of cars. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
So many wrecks there because when people turn onto the crossing lane their car lines up in such a way that the "A" pillar blocks their vision of the Rt. 50 lanes(instead of their car being perpendicular to the highway they are at a 45 degree angle). Instead of coming to a full stop and looking or even looking at traffic prior to the intersection they just pull up and look, don't see anything and go. Of course their vision was blocked by their own car and they end up with permanent vision loss. People in too much of a hurry usually end up not having to worry about rushing anywhere. It is like that video that was on here a week or so ago. The person coming from the right never came to a full stop and they were blocked by a car turning. Lucky for them the driver with the right of way was able to avoid them.
That is part of the problem with the intersection now, there are too many lights causing cars to bunch up in packs on the highway. In the early 90's when they open I97 and built the bypass around Vienna there were probably 7 lights between the bay bridge and OC. Now there are probable 20. All lights do is bunch up traffic and make people even more in a hurry.
There are times between stoplight surges from other lights miles away that there is no traffic in either direction, but people don't want to wait for that or don't know this happens...
Been through that intersection thousands of times, why is it there are so many accidents? As the sign says, "Look Again" and again....A stop light will make it worse...
4:20 nailed it.... it is the window or windshield pillar that is causing the problem there is an intersection less than a mile East and this does not happen figure it out
Just went by. Bad wreck with rollover but it looked like everyone was ok.
ReplyDeleteWhy are there so many wrecks there? I've driven through there 1000 times. It's not that hard of an intersection to navigate.

ReplyDeleteSLOW DOWN so we stay alive long!
close the crossover....do not put a light UP....lights will impede summer traffic like Wor Wics light

ReplyDeleteI rode by there before the ambulances showed up. The ambulances were on the way there I was going westbound on 50.
ReplyDelete2:20 my sentiments exactly.

ReplyDeletePut up a light then have rear end pileups like Hobbs road light.

ReplyDeleteSpot on 6:05 they need to revive the I99 plan and get the shore an interstate!
ReplyDeleteThey should have kept R50 limited access and made local traffic use old oc road.

ReplyDeleteDriver error. Driver impatience. Driver bad driving habits. Lack of driving skill(s).
ReplyDeleteOr they can blame it on the intersection./s

ReplyDeleteCan't fix stupid even with a red light. Look at the wrecks that happen at Mardela.
ReplyDeleteSTOP LIGHT STOP LIGHT STOP LIGHT
ReplyDeleteSue Maryland !!!!
SHA read and heed the advise of massaging this area WITHOUT a light.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand what's so difficult about STOPPING and LOOKING before you cross. Don't just assume everyone can yield to your stupid decision.
ReplyDeleteAn overpass would be a good idea
ReplyDeletePay attention to your damn driving. Simple as that. Don't blame it on an inanimate object. YOU are responsible for your driving. How hard can it be??
ReplyDeleteif you're too dense to position your vehicle so you can see, are you also that dense you can't move your head so you can see?
ReplyDeleteAnother moron driver. Typical
