Maryland legislators consider additional funding for Planned Parenthood
Maryland Democrats announced backing Wednesday for legislation in the state to continue family planning services provided by Planned Parenthood, concerned the federal government will cut such funding in a Republican health care bill in Congress.
Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch, D-Anne Arundel, said the proposed GOP health care plan could cut family planning services that help 25,000 women in the state. The Maryland measure would direct $2 million in the state's Medicaid budget to family planning, as well as another $700,000 from the state's general fund.
Supporters of the Maryland bill said Republicans in Washington were attacking Planned Parenthood out of opposition of abortion. They say the Maryland legislation will ensure funding is available for low-income patients who rely on the preventative care services offered by Planned Parenthood.
"We will not let the federal government mess up the state of Maryland," said Del. Shane Pendergrass, a Howard County Democrat who is sponsoring the legislation.

ReplyDeleteIf they would use preventive care, then they would NOT need an abortion on my dime. Wise up.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats doing what they do best, spending other peoples money they don't even have.

ReplyDeletePlease explain exactly what 'family planning' services would be cut.
Unless you consider murdering unwanted babies 'family planning'.
The only thing provided by PP that can't be gotten elsewhere is ABORTION.
Not with my tax dollars. PP has already refused federal funding that specifies no abortion. I don't want to support anything other than prenatal care, education on abstenance and safe sex, pregnancy prevention. These services should be made readily available. I don't like forced funding a group of lobbiests and murders with my tax dollars - not appropriate use of funds.
ReplyDeleteSo Maryland pays for abortions with our tax dollars. No surprise there.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be doubling down against everything president Trump is doing, when will voters ever learn they look out for thier special interests not yours.

If people will protest our president, wear pussy hats, whine about equal pay or whatever it was, protest police, protest a protest, why won't they protest not only an abortion but an abortion that uses their money against their wishes?
Not popular? No media coverage? What is it?
Gee, never heard ADDITIONAL TAXATION called ADDITIONAL FUNDING. Very clever people.
