A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a rape and murder in New York City almost two decades ago, after the authorities took his DNA when he tried to dodge a subway fare.
Curtis Batchelor, 41, pleaded not guilty in Bronx Supreme Court to charges of first-degree rape and murder relating to the killing of 56-year-old Elsa Grullon in 1999.
Batchelor, who has been arrested 16 times previously, was 24-years-old at the time of the crime, and lived one floor below Grullon on Gerald Ave. near E. 157th St. in Highbridge.

Nearly 20 years, where is the statute of limitations? Talk about injustice.

ReplyDeleteThere isn't a statute on "murder"...the injustice is... the victim died at the hands of a rapist and murderer and her family for 20 years has had to live without her. He got away with it for 20 years but DNA is a wonderful thing it follows you wherever you go now the family is about to receive some justice and he will receive free meals and a hotel for the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteBut really folks, if it was any crime but Murder, really, 20 years later? Most victims would have finely moved on and restarted their life, opening up this would after 20 year, stupid. IMO
