Three Car Accident At Main Street & Rt. 50 Pittsville

There's been yet another accident involving 3 vehicles west bound on Rt. 50 and Main Street in Pittsville just moments ago. Expect delays.

  1. I have driven back and forth on Rt 50 for over 30 years and have never been in an accident. Could it be that people are just not looking when trying to cross 50 ? Just don't understand what obstacles there could be.

  2. Good Lord, And they want to put a car dealership there! OMG! Now we're going to need another stoplight there or a damned cloverleaf! Why not just put in a bridge to bypass Pittsvillealtogether since it's just the biggest narcism racket on the Shore. If anyone wants to go there, they can come from Parsonsburg or Willards!

  3. And there will be many more accidents there as soon as light goes up at 60 Foot Rd! Many people heading east on 50 will turn left at Main St instead of going up to 60 Foot Rd. In turn will cause more issues on Old Ocean City Rd at intersection of 60 Foot Rd as well as Main St behind the school. The light will be a nightmare!!

  4. They should just close off the crossovers and build a fly over like they did just over the bay bridge and in Kent Narrows. No more accidents up there, but the local yokals will fight it.

As opposed to the nightmare, accident-prone intersection now? A light will only control the flow of traffic, it won't cure the lack of driving skills.

  8. In my experience when traveling westbound on Rt. 50 the two biggest issues are:

    1) Those who are coming from north of 50 and merging onto 50W. Generally seem to ignore the Yield signs and just force the issue by merging without regard to traffic on 50 that has right of way.

2)Those crossing 50. Most often are stopped on the crossroad or in the crossover median. Since they are stopped they have to floor it in conjunction with using their judgement about closing speeds of oncoming traffic.

When 1 or 2 get it wrong accidents occur.

It is safe to predict traffic volume will not decrease over time. Perhaps a Stevensville type of overpass is worth a try at the busiest of these intersections. It would greatly reduce the opportunity for drivers to get it wrong.

  9. Sorry 1:43 but my shorebilly spellcheck was not toggled on.

  10. The problem is that no one stops at stop slgns or slows down at yield. Maybe you can get by with that on secondary roads, but when on a highway going the speed limit or over accidents are bound to happen.
