Rising Sea Levels Threaten Md. Coastlines

BALTIMORE (WJZ)– A new warning that rising waters in the Chesapeake could threaten Maryland’s coastline in just a few decades. On Tuesday, a new report says it could be worse than people first imagined.

NOAA believes sea levels could increase by as much as 8 feet within 8 decades. That may not seem like a lot, but 6 million Americans, including Marylanders, could be displaced.

The report says the northeast has a high risk. Prominently displayed on the front page was Ocean City, Maryland.

At best, levels could rise by a foot, but the worst case scenario means levels could creep upwards of 8 feet by the year 2100.

Groups like Environment Maryland have lobbied the governor to take action now.

  4. I'm glad I bought a acre on a hill and built on it. All that might happen to my property is that it might become waterfront property. That wouldn't be so bad.

  6. It's the sun, dummy. I've been saying this for 10 yrs. It was scientifically proven last year by an Aussie. Not owing allegiance to the cabal pukes pushing this taxing agenda, he was able to do actual science. What a concept! The Global Warming models are flawed, skewed in favor of warming.

In 2009, the sun entered a cooling period. Within 2 yrs, the polar ice had recovered 75% of the ice it had lost in the previous 23 years. Anyone still buying the Global Warming lie is not paying attention.

  7. Its not as much the rising water as it is the sinking/lowering of the shelf that makes up the east coast.

  8. These people are crooks! My father is almost 80 years old and says the tides here in Crisfield were higher when he was a boy than now. Same old BS, create a crisis that doesn't exist and convince the gullible that only these environmental groups,NGOs and gov morons can solve it with tax payer $, why they laugh all the way to the bank

  9. 10:37. Why would you want to see the demise of any community? Especially one that brings so much revenue to the state and the shore and provides livlihoods for thousands of people. If you don't like OC, don't visit. I don't understand people who seem to thrive on negativity. Very sad.

  10. My drink just spilled over onto my desk after the ice melted. Damn!
Can a climatologist please explain this phenomenon: If most of the ice is floating, why will it cause oceans to rise when it melts?

    1. You embrace some so called science "global warming " yet you cast the fact that the solar system is warming , out of the equation. The global warming theory is that man is causing the temperature increase, not a fact, Mars temperature has risen that is a fact! Hence temperature change on two planets is not calsed by man!

  13. 8 feet will wipe out not just the oceanfront towns, but most of those up and down the ocean and bay that have tidal rivers.

  14. is this another alarmist study by NOAA? they have done so many of these in the past...

  15. 12:13... see 11:35. Riddle me this... if 90% of ice is floating, how will it affect sea levels? I know its a trick question for a 4 year old, but a smarty-pants like you should have no problem providing a scientific explanation.

  16. climate change is real, and you simpletons need to just stfu and open up your wallets and give your money to me! just like the liberals, I won't do a damn thing about it but I'll enjoy a nicer life style because of it, (not climate change, i.e. your stupidity)!
