There are boarded up homes, (appears they are all owned by
Wicomico County Housing Authority) all over Fruitland and Salisbury.
We stumbled upon some on Davis St, Grace St, Off Hammond St, etc.
Why? I am told they have been like that for years.
If I was a citizen and had a vacant boarded up home would that be legal?
Didn't Ireton start a humiliation campaign against homeowners for this?
How is this legal, fair or safe? Talk about bringing down a neighborhood's value.
Why is the county not held to the same standards the citizens are?

Years ago I contacted the Housing Authority about 3-4 boarded homes in a neighborhood we have about a dozen rental homes in. I was told they did not plan to do anything about it. Potential tenants are scared away! This was near the city park and they are still like that to this day. The city backed them. Yet we get citations for every little thing!
ReplyDeleteYou should be asking how the contractor won the bid for new roofing/siding/plumbing/electrical etc.. on said homes. They are all taken down to studs and everything new is being put in as we speak.

ReplyDeleteAdd to that list the several on Lake Street, across from the city DPW yard. They've been boarded up for years.

You want homeownership to rise but cling to dilapidated livable homes that people could invest in and contribute to the community.
Having a boarded up house on a street does nothing to improve the crime levels, or to improve property values for the rest of the street. County Council needs to put some pressure on the housing authority to either fix them up, sell them to prospective homeowners, or take them down.

ReplyDeleteThey're too busy giving us citations for the grass that grows between the cracks in the sidewalk in front of our house. These jokers ride around in a truck all day what a useless job. Money that should be spent elsewhere.

ReplyDeleteWhy worry about renting these houses when the Feds are already paying the Housing Authority rent as if somebody is living there. I guess you could call this either a "Loop hole or a Scam". Your choice
