BREAKING: STUDENT ASSAULTS ADMINISTRATORS AND PRINCIPAL AT JMB HIGH

A student at JMB High School was arrested around 7:30 this morning for assaulting administrators and the Principal. It's been reported the Principal had to leave early after attempting to break things up and was struck in the head. Hopefully a press release will follow.

    1. your friends could face a minimum of a one day suspension for simply recording these fights. You have the wrong friends, meandering in the hallways instead of moving to their next class.

    2. You might say that there "have been", pay better attention in English class and less to drama in the hallways. I guarantee that my advice will serve you better in years to come.

    3. What Mrs.Pinhney Gonna do?? She a do nothing principal, Well I would be paying attention only if the teachers stop showing movies.

    4. What would be better to serve me is to ask your politician to get money to put classroom doors downstairs at Parkside.

    3. I understand 3:42 is being sarcastic. 4:00 however is just being an ass. This person should be charged with assault and spend time in jail there is no excuse for this type of behavior and permanently expelled from school. The need to bring back discipline in school. And if you are a repeat offender be sent to a school to handle these type of aggressors.

  5. No worries....defendant will be back at school in the morning after telling the story that it was the administrators fault. Teachers please practice to handle with accuracy and proficiency and arm yourselves, each and every one of you. Sad that it has come to that, but you may have to protect the life of a student or yourself.

    1. No, not at all the schools. Just the public ones. This is why I send my children to private school. They do not tolerate that kind of behavior.

      Delete
    2. No they do not tolerate it. They throw them out. There has been a lot of throwing kids out of local private schools this year. So please come down from you ivory tower and realize trash goes to private schools too.

      Delete
    3. No they don't. They get threw out. Your words.

      Delete
    4. Try reading, I never said that trash doesn't go to private schools. My point is the administration does not tolerate rule breaking. I want my children to understand that there are consequences for bad choices/behaviors. They would not get that reinforced if they went to public school. They do understand if they don't follow the rules they would get kicked out of school. Public schools are doing a great disservice allowing this type of behavior to continue.

      Delete
    5. Thank god they do thrown them out.. when I am suffering to pay tuition there had better be disciplined and well behaved children in the classroom.. I
Pay to keep my kid away from
      Trash
      !

      Delete
    6. Please don't insinuate that all public students are trash. It makes you sound like you feel you are above those that cannot afford to send their children to private school. 95% of the students are hard working, good kids... Not trash. If you need proof, go check out the kids that participate in rock n roll revival at JMB. They're outstanding. Now, I don't have a horse in this race as my daughter is only 3... But I participate in my community and I've seen all the good in the kids.

      Delete
    7. You are fooling yourself if you think 95% of the kids are good, hardworking kids. Maybe the ones involved in the rock n roll revival show, but not 95% of the entire student population. I highly suggest you go visit the school your 3 year old will be attending and closely look at how it is run and how behavior issues are handled before you make any judgements. I also participate in my community and prefer a stricter, more disciplined environment for my kids to go to school. I personally know local resource officers and they are not allowed to even verbally correct elementary school kids unless there is a physical altercation involved. So yes, the kids are basically running the circus around here anymore.

  10. This should come as no surprise to anyone. The liberals have created a mad house. No Thug Left Behind needs to go. The children there to learn have a right not to live in fear of Thugs and Mentally unstable people. Where was the county cop. Did they help in anyway. This shows they can not be everywhere at the same time. Let's face it until the B.O.E. step up and make an honest attempt to get control over behavioral issues this will continue.

    2. And how do you suggest the boe "get a handle on this"? These kids are animals. No respect for disciple or the law. Teacher touches or disciplines your precious baby and before you know it there's a law suit pending. Teachers aren't paid to be corrections officers.

    3. The boe is too worried about referrals being accumulated. They have been warned about sending too many kids to the office. SMH

    4. I substituted and when i sent kids out they would roam the halls or be sent elsewhere or lounge in the office. When i was in school, disrespect in any form got u a PC (parent conference) & you couldnt come back until your parent brought you. Fighting staff got u expulsion. The kids curse in the halls. & dont be fooled by the prototype, from your richest to your poorest, children are out of control. There are good parents who children are acting just as wild and its coming from allowing those w/ no home training to influence and corrupt the good ones or the borderline ones. If your child has potential to be in excelled classes or are a few points from being in them, fight for them to b in those classes. Its a more positive and structured enviroment & ur kids arent forced to be in there w/ kids who "have the right to cause chaos". Then the kids who fight back or protect them selves get in trouble and/or told they have to tolerate it or not respond. Im sickened every time i attend American Education Week or go into the office.

Truth is Bennett is a large school, largest on the Eastern Shore, and out of the 1,800 or so students you are going to have incidents like these. Of course more should be tried to limit or eliminate these incidents from happening and I'm sure much is already being done. My point is sarcasm and bitching are not solutions. My kids go to Bennett and we believe it's a good school with great Staff and Teachers.

    1. Please stop trying to make this out to be a small thing. Who cares how many students there are! This is a serious problem in our schools so please stop making it out to be nothing. Kids walking the halls all day, students allowed to use profanity, cussing out teachers and doing as they please. sounds like JMB High School has a major safety issue as long as this nonsense continues to be permitted. I visited my child during American Education Week and the things I heard and saw were absolutely terrible.

  16. You can thank obama for this and every single other democrat out there. I was talking with a western shore elementary school teacher over Thanksgiving holiday who told me the schools were out of control. Again Obama is to blame as well as all democrats. HIS Dept of Ed. sent out "recommendations" to cut back on suspensions and expulsions and if a school cut back then they are eligible for fed grant money. The "recommendations" make it nearly impossible to suspend and expel. This is why all democrats everywhere need to go. They are all nothing but a bunch of liars and have without fail screwed up everything they have ever touched.

    1. Stop blaming Obama. This mess started w/ no child left behind. Bennett Middle should have be turned in to a school to put all that madness in it, instead of a field. The school was already beat up so it would been perfect for those who dont respect school property. Raising the drop out age was a bright choice also. If they dont want to be in school why make them stay, making life miserable for the other kids and teaching staff. Good riddance.

  17. Resource officer....what a joke. I use to watch a female deputy cut out at the old Wi Hi beside Davis Street between 50 and Main. Leave the area as students were exiting after school. This was when scores would be settled out front of the building. Although this was over ten years ago when picking my son up after school, the same actions happen today, from what others witness. Wonder if the officer was not on duty yet, due to changing of shift or hours worked.

  19. If a student hits a teacher or staff member they should be permanently expelled. No second chances for assault. Get the trouble makers out of school so the remaining students might have a chance to learn in an atmosphere that encourages learning.

Its like saying you can t come to school events drunk/drinking and then override rules to let priviledge kids walk across the stage at graduation and that 45 day inability to participate in extra curricular activities isnt up.

  22. Blame your union teachers!!! They lobbied the state to pass these lack discipline laws here in Maryland. Are teachers really so blind and dumb to see this? But go ahead and defend your MSEA/WCEA. Do you really think they are going to help you? They cant even enforce planning time that many of you have been denied. Get real teachers!!!! If you think the union has no play in things like this then you need a reality check.

We all know your teachers union is a major player in these poor decisions. You must be one of those teachers who are too dumb to see.

  23. There has been no discipline in schools since they stopped corporal punishment. In the old days you went to the principals office first offense they talk to you. After that you get your ass paddled. When you let them get away with everything this is what you get. A bunch of spoiled undisciplined brats. And the run the schools not the teachers or the principal. Only by the time they get to middle or high school a lot of the kids are bigger than the teachers and principals so the kids do anything they want and if someone tries to stop them. The kids just beat the h--- out of them. These thugs should be arrested for assault and have to go to jail and face the consequences.

  24. 4:55-I can't believe you as a parent aren't outraged over this. Your children are to be pitied over your dismissive and indifference attitude over violence in a school they attend. It's very disturbing, incredibly disturbing actually. If this is how parents think nowadays no wonder all the violence in the country.

  25. Solution, take your kids out of public school. Home schooling or private school is the answer. Leave public schools to the animals and thugs. Teachers that remain to be educators buy body armor and watch your back.

    1. They make that hard to do. I was told i had to be the main teacher, basically i couldnt have a job. I have to work. At this point i was willing to pay tutors, & was told thats not allowed

    2. Yes. That would be a good solution...however most of the world cannot afford to be stay at home mom's or the outrageous tuitions for private schools. Not an easy solution.

      Delete
    3. You don't have to be the "main teacher" to homeschool your child. In fact, there are many online programs you can use to homeschool your child and even online schools where your child has their own individual teachers for each subject. This is a far less expensive option than private. In fact, there is even a school in Western MD that offers a MSDE certified online program for all students in Maryland and because they are MSDE certified your child graduates with the same high school diploma they would get if they attended a regular brick and mortar high school. Normally kids who are home schooled don't get a regular diploma they basically get a GED. Do some online research. You don't have to be rich or quit your job to homeschool your child. I have home schooled 2 of my children and plan to homeschool the 3rd once he is old enough for school. My oldest is 16 and is finishing an associates degree next semester. I will do whatever it takes to make sure my children are safe.

      Delete
    4. Apparently you didnt do your research or did not meet w/ the boe as i did. I prefer 1 on 1 learning and willing to do so and was told by the board i had to be the one providing a certain amount of hours to my child. That is the case for a teenager but not a elementary age child. Everyone does not have access to all you do and or the support you may have and trust their are alot of parents who want nothing less to provide a safe environment for their children, but if you cannot provide a home food and uniforms which do you choose.

  26. Not just happening in middle and high school. Kindergarten students and teachers are being hit, punched, spit on, bit, and kicked daily. Nothing done about it. We have to keep a behavior chart for months before any help is in sight. If it was addressed at the elementary level maybe they wouldn't be a behavior problem in the higher levels.

I applaud the people who try to be positive and make the city better and continue to invest in it.
No amount of money being poured into Salisbury public schools will make any difference. The problem is drugs and home life. This is NOT everywhere. Do not become complacent! They should put all of the good kids at Bennett and all of the kids with discipline issues at Parkside.

  34. 8:17 PM - Agree with the part about those getting in trouble and not paying the price. However, you are completely wrong on the liberal shh. The reason these things happen are directly related to liberal policies. The current culture is completely controlled by the liberal way of thinking. Even here on the conservative Eastern Shore. If the school wants the tax $$ they have to suck up to the liberal educational system.

  35. If there are no serious consequences what do they learn? Nothing! when theses kids get jobs and then kick or choke their bossess they will be fired and then arrested.. in the real world thats assault and you will be arrested-rightfully so... if you go along with the theory.. oh there are 1800 kids blahblah blah...it happens .. etc...then
It would also be acceptable for the principal to kick or choke a teacher with no consequences as well right?

  36. First of all we dont know what happened and second we all have kids and we dont really know what they may do rather they are good or bad we where kids once and some of us would have did the same thing so intil you know what happened stop judging him cause if he was your son you would feel the same way I feel and know he's not my son but he is my nephew and know matter what I'm going to always love him

    ReplyDelete

    1. You should definitely love him but no, most children would not assault anyone, let alone authority. Love this boy. Do him a favor and hold him accountable. Help him turn his life around.
I wish good things gor your nephew, but I have little doubt that his family knew he was not a choir boy.

      Delete
    2. If he choked out the principal or assaulted a female his mother should of left him in jail and it would not meant she loved him any less. There are other ways to handle conflicts w/ staff besides attacking them. He better learn now or life and the law is going to teach him and she wont be able to bail him out.

      Delete
  37. It is sad that this happened. There are many good teachers, administrators, and students....ones that DO want to learn. Unfortunately, the teachers have to jump through hoops and document non-verbal warnings, seat changes, verbal warnings, phone calls home to parents (usually made during times in the evening that they should be spending with their own families), detentions, and rescheduled detentions before looking for administative help. Then, the administrators have to jump through their own set of hoops...lots of them. During all this, those disruptive and rude students that simply refuse to comply with school and classroom rules ruin the learning of the rest of the students in their classes throughout the day. It is frustrating for the students that are stuck in classes with these kids, the teachers, and the administration. The rights and protections put into place to keep these kids in the classroom are taking priority over the rest. Excuses are made for the few, and it really is just a small percentage that ruins it for the rest, instead of quickly being able to curb the actions. Since the behaviors continue for months as everyone jumps though the hoops of the discipline process, others that wouldn't have been an issue begin jumping on the bandwagon of disrespect and disruption. Things begin spiraling, profanity is rampant everywhere, and some teachers even get threatened by these emboldened students. It isn't an issue just in the high schools. It is also common in multiple middle schools in the county. Even in some elementary schools, teachers are dealing with similar issues. Students fail multiple subjects each year. Yet, a bit of time in the summer gets them pushed to the next grade. They know this, so participating in lessons, studying, or doing homework means little to many of the problem students. Most people go into education because they like children and want to make a difference. They aren't in it to be cursed at, ridiculed, or feel inadequate because they truly feel bad for the students that are missing 1/2 of their education each day because of a few. Teachers wish they could do more to help them not have to deal with that frustration each day, but all they can do is jump through all the hoops. Add in the fact that education is supposed to be taking place and that teachers are supposed to ensure that all of the students meet growth targets, and the frustration multiplies. Unfortunately, many good people are jumping ship. I don't know the answer to fix things. Today's society is so caught up with being politically correct that it is unpopular to say that if learning can't happen in a room due to one or two students, then those students need to be taken out of that room. The idea that what is best for the majority should actually prevail...that education should actually be able to take place in a classroom by removing those that refuse to let learning take place (without months of documentation and loss of learning) ... is unacceptable to some. I feel bad for those that dealt with the situation at JMB today and the students that witnessed the fallout or get to deal with gossip and rumors about their school now. It is a good school, with many respectful and responsible kids (and caring adults), that is being spoiled by a small percentage of students, just like others in the county. Until education becomes more important than the philosophy that everyone deserves a trophy, a pat on the back, and endless chances, I'm not sure how soon things will change. However, as most teachers would agree, they still do their best to give students a fresh start each day... hoping that it is the day that those disruptive students will begin making the right choices.

  38. Blame the parents because some parents these days do not raise their children right at all. No home training, no morals, respect or anything! 9/10 whoever this kid is will not make it that far in life... thIs county lets kids walk over teachers, staff and bus drivers & something needs to be done!!! 44. Law requires kids to stay in school until a certain age. So kids who do not want to be in school have to stay and just disrupt school until they can leave. Salisbury schools are becoming unsafe for kids that truly want to learn. The punks disrupt classes and the school system. It is time for school choice, or allow private schools to receive funds granted public schools for each kid that goes private. Then all the punks can have public schools to themselves and destroy each other.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bring back Mr.Grudis ! I personally couldn't stand him but his demeanor alone demanded respect. In the 4 years I was Bennett no teacher or administrator was ever hit (not on purpose) . Clearly JMB is missing a strong leader I couldn't imagine this happening from 09-013 . Not saying we liked the man BUT he got the job done.

    ReplyDelete
  46. My tax dollars were being used for public schools also. And I made less than poverty wages. Yet I sent three kids to Christian school because the public schools are not teaching them anything. They just brain wash them into thinking like the liberal one worlders. All you have to do is watch Watter's world. These college kids don't have a clue about anything. They all say I guess that will be alright. They have been dumbed down by public education. They have been taught Secular Humanism by public education. So I struggled to keep mty kids in Christain School. Not only were they smarter than most public school kids. They tested two years higher in public school than the grade they were in. By the way we had to sign a release that if deemed necessary they got corporal punishment. If you did not agree with that you would be called at work to come to the school and discipline your own child.
So yes it is the responsibility of the parents to raise, educate and discipline our children. The problem is parents won't take that responsibility seriously. They throw their babies in daycare so they can work and make money than in school for the teachers to babysit them. Then when they wind up in jail they can't figure out why this happened. Well it was because everyone else raised your kids but you. It was more important to you to take that vacation, or buy that boat or new car, All these things were more important than your kids. And to keep them happy at home you gave them all the material things they asked for. The only thing you didn't give them was your time and love in raising them. So that is the truth in a nutshell. Say what you will but I now have three kids and eight grand kids. And they turned out to be good workers and good parents and make a decent living. They also have good disciplined kids So parents if you would do your God given job and raise your kids right this school thing would not be a problem.

  48. We all have a voice in this. It does not matter if you have a child in that school or any children in school for that matter. We are all share holders if you will. I know I pay a school tax every year just like every other tax payer. With that said I do not understand keeping violent offenders in the school system.

You can not blame the school Admin. or the police it is not their job to raise your children. It starts at home. Many of these children are raising themselves. The majority in broken homes are doing well. There is no structure at home these kids need to be commended. The violent need to go.

The children and Staff have the right to work in a safe learning environment

    1. Until ur child begins to have a stage and act out or imitate their peers behavior, then will it be every parents fault?

  49. This is why more parents are home-schooling or enrolling their children into private schools.
Sure, bullying is in private schools as well, but you will not see the level of disruption you do in public schools. No screaming, cussing or fights in the hallways. It is simply not tolerated.
Why,as a country, are we funding the pandemonium that is our public school system ? We should be demanding higher standards.

  50. For those of you exclaiming that not everyone can afford private school...have you ever heard of financial aid or educational loans?
I get tired of people telling me they cannot afford private school but yet they drive brand new vehicles and have a boat,go on elaborate vacations every year, etc. Our family is barely above poverty level but we manage to send our kid to a good private school. We drive vehicles over ten years old,and splurge on a modest vacation every 3-4 years.
It all boils down to priorities. The public schools where we live are horrible and we feel that sacrificing to pay tuition is an investment in our childs future.

    1. Yes thank you! My car is about to be 20 years old and we still live in our small, affordable house because my priority is for my kids to get a good education. My 6 year old asked me why we didn't buy a new car and I explained that I would rather send her to a good school than have a new vehicle. I never go to Starbucks for coffee and very, very rarely (maybe once a year) eat out. It came down to making the budget work.

  51. 9:16 Thank you for your comment. Its a struggle but our kids are worth it.

  52. 4:18 Your comment falls about a hundred yards away from making any sense....what does church have to do with the subject at hand? Maybe you should not judge me either and assume we are not struggling to make ends meet as well as any other lower-middle class households.
True, not everyone has boats and new cars but most of the parents telling me they cannot afford private school DO.Then you have the ones who get tattoos every other month for hundreds of dollars,or buy Coach purses,or festoon themselves in gold jewelry, etc. They eat dinners out all the time instead of cooking at home.
They buy their kids the newest game system with all the latest games but they won't invest the same amount of money into their kids future and that's a damn shame.I don't ever want our kids to struggle like we have,or get stuck living here on the shore with no job prospects. If they want to remain on the shore, the only way they will avoid poverty is to have a special skill or trade that is in demand.Do not assume things about people you do not know.

  53. 4:18 No one is entitled to assault school staff. I do not care if you are rich, poor, white, black etc... It is time for all parents to take charge of their homes. It all starts at home. Why does one child set the tone for all. It does not work for me. The punk in this case needs his arse whipped. No more excuses. The children there to learn have a right to a safe school. Stop this no thug left behind crap and lay the problem where it belongs. Piss poor parenting.

  54. Maybe it's time to start charging these angry youngsters as adults and threaten hard time in a state prison for their violence instead of trying the feel good liberal BS by slamming them into counseling. We're not talking about Good Will Hunting kids here. These urchins have no rearing with the exception of their fellow hoodlums on the streets raising them to beat up people, steal and deal drugs. Throw them in the slammer and call it a day. If their parents wanted better for them maybe they should've done better by them. 😔

  55. Time for home schooling. If a group of parents split the costs for teachers in the separate fields of study, students could learn from home and not be put in this type of violent environment five days a week. Contact Joe and he'll forward your info to me because I can teach English, Literature, Civics, Social Studies and History.

  56. Homeschooling by parents that have GED or HS degree sure sound like a recipe for a bright future for the children.

  57. 539 no you get people who teach subject they have higher degrees in. Why don't you use some logic skills or do you have any?

    ReplyDelete
  58. 6:41 Maybe you should read the regulations on homeschooling your children. Homeschooling does not mean that your hire teachers to come teach your kids at your house. SMH.

  59. This kid comes from a troubled home and the teacher did not respect him. The student was merely asking for an additional free breakfast as he hadn't eaten since the night before The administrators don't know the culture and how to respect a brother.

    1. 835 How hood you sound. First of all the teachers are not his 'brother' and if he wants respect maybe he should try respecting his elders. It will go miles more in the long run. He'll learn respect real quick in the slammer. 👎🏻

  60. He will not be getting an extra breakfast in WCDC or ECI either. They know how to explain it to a brother.
