For the month of November, our Sheriff Deputies will be retiring their razor and be allowed to grow facial hair for this great cause!
No-Shave November is devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education.
The American Cancer Society estimates that one (1) in seven (7) men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. After skin cancer, prostate cancer is the next most common form of cancer in men. Additionally, African American men are more likely to get prostate cancer and nearly have a two-fold mortality rate compared to that of Caucasian men with the same illness, the American Cancer Society states.
No-Shave November is a month-long journey and commitment during which participants forgo shaving in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. Hopefully, seeing WCSO Deputies with facial hair will strike up conversation and bring more awareness to the cause.
Per Sheriff Lewis, Deputies wishing to participate will be exempt from the normal WCSO facial hair guidelines and be allowed to have neatly trimmed, mustaches, goatees and/or beards. They will be returning to our normal grooming policies on December 1st, 2016.
Male participants who make a donation in the amount of $30 will be permitted to grow out their facial hair between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30, 2016. Any female Deputies who wish to donate and participate will be allowed to don a blue ribbon or blue streak in their hair for the month to show their support for the cause.
At the conclusion of the fundraiser all the money raised will be presented to the American Cancer Society located at 1315 Mt. Hermon Rd., Salisbury, MD.
Any business who wishes to match the total of funds raised by the WCSO Deputies or any individual wishing to make a personal donation to the cause, please mail your donation in the form of a check to:

How about releasing some information on the deputy involved in embezzlement of FOP funds?
ReplyDeleteWe have a fundraiser for anything any wealthy organization can dream up. Have any of you people ever looked up how this money is spent? Wounded warriors has about a dozen people riding around all over the country making 400,000.00 to 500,000.00 each. Red Cross, Chesapeake Bay foundation and so on. Everything from private schools and colleges to cancer. They are making a lot more than you and they want you to give to them. Go to Guildestar.org and look for yourself. This is a government website.
ReplyDeleteStill under investigation....FBI Director COMEY says can't release while on going investigation.....LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how you can't donate anymore without having to walk 20 miles or grow a beard. They want to make a fool of you while they take your money. The rich keep getting richer and know they want a good laugh along with your money.
ReplyDelete2:50 then don't do it? No one is forcing you to grow a beard or a mustache. It's to raise awareness just like the article says. Go ahead and donate to a non profit of your choice if you want and take a chill pill while you're at it haha
ReplyDeleteI never donate money to any cause. I have and will donate my time to help those that needed it. Have volunteered at soup kitchens, built houses, 12 years as volunteer firefighter, traveled to disaster areas to assist search/rescue and rebuild.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great. Not everyone is a generous giver. Finding fun ways to get people to participate and raise funds is creative and works!
ReplyDelete3:30 I don't anymore. I am trying to raise awareness on how some people don't have the money to pay their own bill's yet they feel guilty or pressured when they walk out of a store with someone collecting for something. They stare at you and out of kindness you hand them money. I have been involved in one thing and have been pressured to donate to another, have been told we are expecting 100% participation. I have had people put me on a guilt trip to donate to things I don't want to or thing I her how little goes to the cause. That is my point. Do you care how organizations spend your donations? Do you even know how they spend it?

Even if true, how is doing either one of the things you mentioned going to make a fool out of anyone?

I understand how you might feel, but you really shouldn't feel like that, IMO.
You should not feel guilt over not donating to anyone or any cause if you simply don't have the money, OR just don't want to donate. That is totally your business. And if some charity, group or person tries to pressure you to do something you cannot or don't feel comfortable doing, I would take a serious look at that charity, group or person. Personally, I would sever ties with anyone who tried to do that to me, but that is your decision.
If a charity or org. is legit, one can find out what their ratio of donations received to donations given, with a little work.
If anyone can, they should freely give, not be harassed or intimidated into doing so. Good luck to you.
1:49 Just ask Pilchard or his neighbors. He seems to know all about it.
ReplyDeleteFunny last year around this time a squad grew mustaches trying to have some shift humor and Lewis was pissed.
