In case you haven't noticed - these kinds of incidents are happening all around Salisbury. Might as well, job market is scant, hand-outs have now been re-classified on what used to be characterized as ordinary income. Hours have been reduced from 40 to 30 to get around Obamacare, and the Democratic party calls this progress?
Tensions are high because Obama/Hillary have abandoned their constituency, and this incidence helps to show it.
Service jobs are about all that's left around the slower lower though. Yet, the Daily Rag recently reports a recent mediocre gain of 50 jobs by some cable assembly co. expansion. How about the 1000s of lost manufacturing jobs in and around Salisbury. It will take a century to regain those lost manufacturing jobs.
Sorry, but those jobs are never coming back to the eastern shore. Agriculture dominated the area in the early 20th century and was replace with manufacturing during the industrial revolution - post WWII era. In the 70's fuel costs made making goods and shipping them in/out of the eastern shore cost prohibitive and unions killed off the manufacturing companies. Since the 80's there are really only a few major employers left. Perdue, SU and government jobs (local/county/state/fed). If you are not a professional (lawyer/doctor/accountant) then you either own a business or work for someone that does. Everyone else is in the service industry or retail which are dead end jobs. It is very sad to see people clinging to the false hope that the area will return to prosperity. Unless you are financially secure and seek to enjoy the beauty of the area at your leisure, there is no future here. Joe came here with money, life is good for him.
I'm sure this makes you people of Salisbury that we're born and raised here very proud. I've been here almost seven years and I hate this place more and more every day Thank God next summer we're moving.

Yes, thank God you are moving. I only wish it was sooner. But I have a feeling you will hate every place you move to. I think it is YOU, not the location. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Anonymous Anonymous said... I'm sure this makes you people of Salisbury that we're born and raised here very proud. I've been here almost seven years and I hate this place more and more every day Thank God next summer we're moving.
953 I do not think this type of behavior is a result of anything you mentioned (jobs, income, etc). I know lots of people black and white who are in dire straights on assistance and jobless. They do not act like this.
This is purely a product of the environment in which they were raised in. These type of adults never matured out of the 7th grade.
Why are yall beating up on 1057? He/she speaks the truth. What makes the eastern shore (not salisbury) great are the plentiful opportunities to enjoy God's gift of nature. Beyond that this place, especially the stretch of cambridge to princess anne, is trash. No jobs, no culture, and no prospects of growth.1053 hit it right on. The factories can produce much more with alot fewer workers now. Despite that garbage you soak up from Trump and others, those jobs arent coming back. Those jobs were doomed lomg before anyone ever heard of an obamacare. We continue to manufacturer plenty of goods here in the US (just look up the data yourself). The only way to bring back the actual jobs would be to conduct some serious iron fiated socialist government control of the market. But i thought you guys hated that.
I used to work in manufacturing plant in Salisbury. What killed those jobs was when Clinton signed NAFTA. Then all the manufacturing jobs started moving to Mexico for cheap labor. It was just the bottom line that they were looking at. Instead of paying ten or fifteen dollars an hour here. They went to Mexico and paid employees about a dollar a day. Since Trump is a business man just maybe he can get our jobs to come back to this country. He can do it by lowering the cost of doing business in the U.S. And raising the cost of making product outside of the U.S. He did not become rich by being stupid. Oh yeah and by the way he said he would not take the $400,000.00 a year salary for the President but he would take $1.00 a year for being President. You wouldn't see Obama do that. He is too busy golfing and taking expensive vacations.
N Salisbury WalMart is very frustrating to begin with. They never have enough registers open and the service desk is never totally manned. The store is ripe for conflicts.
10:35 Dresser was done by the time NAFTA was put in place as were most of the big employers like Crown Cork & Seal. Nanticoke seafood was another dead and gone before NAFTA. There are no jobs for unskilled labor or untrainable people other that retsil and fast food.
I agree with 10:35 - maybe with Trump we can regain a manufacturing footing once again. If they were here before, then why can't they come back! To say that these manufacturing jobs will never return - sounds as though you have given up.
You had HOPE (Obama) and that failed. So what do you have to lose with Trump.
I can only think of maybe two places that could be described as "good jobs", and you had to know someone to get hired. How many did they employ, 1,000? Big deal. There has never been an abundance of good jobs here. But we did have mostly good people living here. Now it's mostly thugs, dealers, hookers, released inmates from prison, educated idiots diluting the gene pool.
It's not just this area, it's all over the country. Government and corporations have too much control over our lives and people would rather be taken care of then take care of themselves. That's part of the reason they protest at a drop of a hat. They want their trophy just for participating.
Manufacturing jobs were leaving before NAFTA and if the factories do come back ,the jobs aren't. Factories are automated and people are the shore are uneducated and backward thinking.
To 11:16 Poster - You stand to be corrected. The vast majority of manufacturing jobs left because of NAFTA. The TPP - would have shuttered virtually all of the very few remaining manufacturers (case-in-point) Carriers recent announcement, and, the Lincoln factory relocation from Kentucky to Mexico.
Sounds as though you may have been drinking some of the Kool-aid that has been doled out by the Beacon group at SU. I can remember Memo Diricker vividly during an interview with The Daily Times whereby he was quoted as saying that the US's transition from a position from a major manufacturer to a 'Service Oriented economy that there were going to enormous opportunities abound'.
IMHO - fact is the result are quite the opposite. WHEN A COUNTRY LOSES ITS MANUFACTURING BASE - THE TECHNOLOGICAL EDGE IS ALSO LOST! My only wish is that someone had only taught that concept about 20 years ago at SU.
They're probably arguing over somebody's πΆπΎ Daddy. That's usually how it starts. Man centric. Daddy's not working or doing someone else. Just so classy. π±π±π± fights are always a fun time to be had.
