Hit-and-run driver has multitude of charges dropped

Meredith Ashley, 21, who was facing more than a dozen charges stemming from a hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist this July, pled guilty to one count of reckless driving in District Court in Ocean City on Monday.

Judge Daniel Mumford fined Ashley $300 for reckless driving from a July 8 accident when her vehicle struck a cyclist heading south on Coastal Highway near 46th Street.

When police arrived on the scene just before 11 p.m., they found a victim bleeding from both elbows and expressing concern over a potential head injury.

Police reported that a witness said that Ashley had been driving in the bus lane so she could splash pedestrians by driving through puddles. The witness also told police that after hitting the bicyclist Ashley sped off.

Ashley’s defense attorney and father, Joseph Ashley, told the court his daughter first drove to her 2nd Street residence before receiving his counsel and contacting police.

  7. 6 points on her license and a hefty insurance increase are part of a reckless driving conviction.

  14. What you're looking at is a high-maintenance female. Not many can afford her, and those who can should look twice before leaping.

  17. I was hit while jogging with one of my dogs, and took it to court....I cleaned up on insurance claims against the dumb woman driver...glad my dog was not hurt or I would have went to jail....She was charged with FAILURE TO EXERCISE DUE CAUTION TO PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC...and like this dude, I was in the Marked Bike lane jogging.

  18. Just WOW! I watched a car splash pedestrians on purpose a week ago in Salisbury. I tried to catch up with them, but could not get close enough to get tag number, not that it would matter. This Ashley case is complete BS. Judge should be removed and any hit and run driver should spend time in jail. Six points on license means nothing to a spoiled brat whos daddy probably pays the bills.

  19. It's all about the money.... wicimico county well hunt down someone that is driving on suspended before they go after the drug dealers on the east and west side.....why.....because the person that's driving on suspended is driving to a JOB... The"dealers" don't pay fines, bail, or anything else bit sit in jail....they don't see that as progress only if the bank account goes up up up.....truth
