Verizon is divvying out new perks to its customers, but you'll need to pay up to take advantage of them.
The nation's largest wireless carrier on Wednesday unveiled a new set of pricier plans with extra data, as CNET reported Monday. The prices will go up by as much as $10 a month.
The low-end "S" plan will rise by $5 to $35 a month, but will include 2 gigabytes of data, twice as much as before. The "M" plan will increase by $5 to $50 a month, while its data will rise from 3GB to 4GB. The "L" plan will tick up by $10 to $70 a month, while data increases from 6GB to 8GB. The "XL" plan will go up by $10 to $90 a month, but you'll get 16GB, up from 12GB before. Lastly, the "XXL" plan will cost $10 more at $110 a month, but you will get 24GB instead of 18GB. They are available starting Thursday.
In addition, the plans will give customers access to new features such as a rollover data program called "Carryover Data." They will also be able to turn on "Safety Mode," which throttles down the connection speed of an account when it has reached its limit, avoiding the overage fee. There's also "Data Boost," which allows customers to buy an additional gigabyte of data for $15 once they've hit their limit. Lastly, certain customers will be able use their phones in Canada and Mexico without roaming charges.

Att has had rollover for years.
ReplyDelete3:38PM There is no roll over data for Verizon, it is carry over and it has to be used within a month or you lose it... The funny thing here is how, they said years ago bandwidth was not there, yet they keep on giving you more, at a higher price of course... SO where did all this bandwidth come from???
ReplyDeleteCheck the FCC website. These companies are constantly buying additional bandwidth when made available by the government. Most companies are transitioning older technology such as 2G and converting to LTE, thus additional bandwidth.
DeleteSo...they get rid of subsidized phones for people on unlimited data plans.
ReplyDeleteThen they stop subsidizing phones for everybody.
Now they force people to pay more for their plan by giving them some data back.
Sure looks like an efficient market to me.
Pay enough now this is crazy
DeleteThis is awesome, thanks for the post, Joe!
ReplyDeleteWe are on the XXL plan, but only have been using around 16gb monthly instead of the 18gb allotted. Now, I am going to drop down to the XL plan and get 16gb and pay $10 less monthly! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to take the new plan. Other than unlimited data which we saw where that went the other plans stay in place unless you change them. If you get new service or want the extra data.... oh well. Still the best coverage. At a Sprint race this year they had a portable tower so that they had coverage. What a joke, new spokesman or not. Can you hear me now?
ReplyDelete"...SO where did all this bandwidth come from???"
ReplyDeleteIt's a free gift from Obama. You know, like an Obamaphone. Didn't you know all things good come from the smartest man in the world?
Every single one of us would be better off without an iPhone.
ReplyDelete5:21 PM, So True.
ReplyDeleteSays the guy posting to this blog from his smartphone.
Delete7:24, how do you know they are not on a computer?
DeleteAnyone who pays Verizon directly is such a sucker. Yes, Verizon has a superior network here on Delmarva, but please foks, use PagePlus Cellular instead! Keep your same Verizon #, use same Verizon 4G LTE network, and pay much much less, plus no bogus fees and "taxes" what you see is what you pay. I've had page plus for over 3 years and can't believe people pay over $100 a month for a fricken phone!
ReplyDeleteI have survived without an iPhone. Love my Android though!
ReplyDeleteThanks, 6:15 PM!! I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteI pay 85 a month for me and my son's phones. Had to stop the Verizon bleeding a few years ago!
ReplyDeleteTING.
Thank god I have unlimited data still. Dont care about not getting subsidize phones because we just buy used phones on amazon if we need them. I pay $290 a month for 2 phones with unlimited data, 1 tablet with unlimited data, 1 tablet with 5 gigs of data and a MiFi (hotspot) with 5 gigs of data. We don't really even need one of the tablets and the hotspot but we pay them anyway because we use so much data at a great price, don't mind kicking the $ to Verizon. We use around 500 gigs a month lol. Don't have cable so we use our phones hotspots to stream Netflix and Plex to our TV. Have better download speeds with Verizon 4g then we did when we had comcast. I love Verizon been with them for 15 years now.
ReplyDeletei used 40gb last month, im keeping my unlimted
ReplyDelete40 gb? 500 gb? Do you all do anything besides stay on your phones/ computers? WOW1
ReplyDeleteIn my case (the 500 GB commenter), since we dont have cable tv my phones act as a hotspot to stream content on a couple different TVs in the house for 2 kids, a wife and myself. An hour long show at 4k resolution streaming can be a couple of gigs. My job requires me to send in daily reports and photos of site work and uploading to the company server eats up close to 100gb a month alone. I probably spend a total of 20 mins a day on my phone, and most of that is yelling at my phone to connect to my work server for pic/doc uploads. Think before you speak.
