Several American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) attorneys took to Twitter to blame the “Christian Right” for Sunday’s deadly terrorist attack at a nightclub in Orlando, Fla., which left 50 dead and 53 injured.
Chase Strangio, a staff attorney with the ACLU’s LGBT and AIDS Project, claimed the social and political environment cultivated by Christian conservatives in recent months was to blame for the shooting at Pulse, a nightclub popular with Orlando’s LGBT community.
Strangio also called for solidarity between American Muslims and LGBT communities, arguing both are maligned and oppressed by the religious right.
Federal law enforcement officials have identified Omar Mateen, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., as the alleged shooter. Mateen’s father told NBC news his son harbored anti-gay sentiments, and said his son gave voice to those feelings recently during a trip to Miami, where he saw two men kissing.

Wow. These rabid fascists are trying to blame Christianity for EVERYTHING.
ReplyDeleteNever mind that it was a muslim shooting the place up.
The shooter isn't the only one that's unhinged.
Whatever happens, their answer is get rid of guns and Christianity.
"..Strangio also called for solidarity between American Muslims and LGBT communities.."
ReplyDeleteThis guy is delusional.
The ACLU is now full of muslim legals and lawyers like all places. Of course they will blame Christians.
ReplyDeleteSo Omar, whose father once ran for Afghan President, is a devout Christian, eh?
ReplyDeleteYeahright.
8:51 you beat me too it.
ReplyDeleteObviously this Strangio doesn't understand sharia law or honor killings, both tenets of those faithful to Islam.
Gay Mosques? Get out your prayer rug.
There is certainly little difference in conservative Christian attitude and conservative Muslim attitude, in general, toward gay people and others in the LGBT community. Of course, not all conservative Christians or all conservative Muslims would go on shooting sprees. In fact most would not.
ReplyDeleteIt is worth noting there are openly gay Christians and Muslims in America and there are both Christians and Muslims who show tolerance and even support. Both religions reside on a long continuum from very conservative to very progressive.
Less we forget, what I just wrote is true of Jews and atheists also.
We should also remember there are some conservatives who are not social conservatives and some conservatives who are gay. It is all quite nuanced.
The ACLU has always been and always will be an organization of scum bags.
ReplyDeleteThe ACLU is a terrorist group.
ReplyDeleteIdiot !
ReplyDeleteThe ACLU defends the Civil Liberties of ALL Americans (including the KKK). They are not a "left-wing' organization. They are one of the few groups that steadfastly follow the US Constitution to the letter.
ReplyDeleteIf you were to look at his tweets for the day, he also goes on to state that he "does not care who this criminal claimed allegiance with." Therefore ignoring the fact the gunman was a self-proclaimed follower of ISIS and also a registered Democrat, he will continue to blame Right Wing Christians because they are against marriage equality.
ReplyDeleteI am getting very tired of the Left vs Right dilemma in this country. You are either for or against a belief, but this is not true. You can practice a belief without believing in every word that is documented. Common sense seems to be a thing of the past and we all seem to be focused on the wrong problems. Humanity, focus on that for once. What is good for people as a whole, killing someone because of their sexual orientation is not benefitting anyone, no matter what religion, race, or sex you may be. It is inhumane, sad, and tragic. We should not focus on the orientation of those who are this sick, but mainly how humanity has evolved to the point where we outthink ourselves. This is just a sad situation.
Think it was a hate crime?
