The Maryland Health Connection is the state's Obamacare Marketplace. Monday, an agency press release noted that Maryland "has cut by 40 percent the number of Marylanders who were eligible for private insurance coverage when the state marketplace began three years ago." However, the breakdown of that statistic reveals that only 165,000 out of more than one million sign-ups are non-Medicaid enrollments.
When the exchange opened three years ago, an estimated 405,000 people were eligible for private coverage. Three years later, that number has fallen to 240,000. But the press release notes that including Medicaid over one million have been enrolled in through the Maryland Health Connection. This puts the number of Medicaid sign-ups around 83 to 84 percent and private coverage around only 16 to 17 percent.
Maryland also notes in the press release that, including Medicaid, ninety percent of those enrolled through the exchange received either subsidized or free coverage:

Does that surprise anyone?
ReplyDeleteI know of people that went into the system looking for lower premiums for their family. They input all their information; the system threw the husband into coverage for himself and placed his pregnant wife and minor children on medicaid. That was not what they wanted, that is what the system threw them into. They made numerous calls to find something/anything else. They were advised to stay with what the system put them in. It has worked out for them this year with children sick throughout the winter months. They are hoping for something a bit better for the next go round. These people are not slackers in any way, and it bothers them to be put in this situation.
ReplyDeleteI know most people don't care, they will continue to suckle at the entitlement teat, but not all people are of that particular ilk.
3:28 - I know of several families that have had this exact experience. They are not happy at all. This is the new America and eventually we will all be on MA.
ReplyDeleteOne more price increase and I will be joining the uninsured.
ReplyDeleteSocialism. Obamacare is on par to bankrupt America.
ReplyDeleteYet I work full time and pay almost $400 a month for coverage that doesnt cover anything. Its such a ponzi scheme and im on the bottom of the pyramid.

ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. We pay about the same amount and instead of a copay now we have a 2k per person deductible, but they happily told us out rates didn't go up for the year. YES THEY DID! I have to pay 2k now before they cover anything.
How many people are at a company and have been there a while and are making a fairly decent wage so they can't change companies to find better benefits. Most companies are having the same problem. Seems it is the working people that are feeling the pinch so the lazy can get more things for free. Makes you just want to give up and join them sometimes.
hahahahaha! The system doesn't THROW you into anything. You are given an option!
