Salisbury – The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club and The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club Charitable Trust donate $500 each to the Humane Society of Wicomico County to assist in costs associated with the 310 dog recently seized in Eden, Maryland. SMKC has also offered assistance with the many additional needs presented by the rescue operation.
SMKC President Peggy Bradford presented the donation on behalf of the club and charitable and said that this organization does so much good in the community and the little financial support we can provide is worth it.
“These dogs deserve the opportunity to be loved and properly cared for and we want to help make that happen,” Bradford said. “The outpouring of donations seen from the community has been amazing and SMKC is very hopeful for a positive outcome.”

The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club Charitable Trust (SMKCCT) was founded in 2010. Working with the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club (SMKC), the Trust is able through tax deductible donations by SMKC members, the public and friends of dogs and animals to provide the Tri-County area of Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset funding and other support for such things as K-9 police vests, oxygen masks and educational programs for school children.

ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is knowing the situation why vets in this area donate more of their time to help with these pups. They certainly make enough money off all the owners in Salisbury to warrant giving some charity in situations such as this. Why can't they donate shots and checkups? If I were a vet I would do that. Especially with what they charge! Just saying.

They have risen to your challenge. Vets and groomers alike have all been stepping up to volunteer. So many, in fact, they had to start lists to coordinate services. What a wonderful community!

Delete12:30-The Humane Society of the United States is assisting with the cost of veterinary care for the dogs. Veterinarian practices are small businesses who like other small businesses have expenses and staff that rely on them for their livelihoods. I understand area vets are offering there time for free but with each dog comes expenses like the various diagnostics and medicines, and preventatives like flea/tick.
ReplyDeleteI can't understand why the Wicomico Humane Society isn't acknowledging the HSUS's generous donation.
Please don't forget that Somerset and Worcester County's Humane Society's took a number of these puppies as well. For the sake of the dogs they could also use some help.
ReplyDeleteContrary to what the news was reporting Worcester County Humane Society does not have any of the dogs at this point in time. Somerset Co. HS does and Baywater Animal Rescue in Cambridge do though.

ReplyDeleteFor anyone interested First State Animal Center and SPCA in Camden DE has 20 of the 61 dogs they received from Eden ready for adoption. Most are Pom mixes who have never been outside so keep in mind a large amount of patience is needed by those interested in adopting them. For more info refer to First States website or Facebook page.
