(ANNAPOLIS, MD) — Maryland State Police have arrested a man who refused to stop for police in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties tonight and was taken into custody after he struck a tractor trailer on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The male driver is under arrest, but troopers have been unable to positively identify him at this time. He will be charged later tonight with multiple criminal and traffic charges. Those charges are not known at this time.
At about 8:40 p.m. tonight, Maryland State Police at the Golden Ring Barrack were notified by Baltimore County Police to be on the lookout for a Lincoln MKZ with Delaware registration that had fled following an attempted traffic stop in the eastern part of the county. Troopers spotted the vehicle on the outer loop of I-695 at Bel Air Road and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and the driver was observed driving erratically. State troopers ended their pursuit at Reisterstown Road, but continued to drive in the direction the suspect was heading.
Troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack observed the vehicle southbound on I-97 and attempted to stop it for erratic driving. Again, the driver refused to stop for marked police cars with lights and sirens activated.
Troopers followed the vehicle onto the Bay Bridge where it collided with a tractor trailer and came to rest. Troopers arrested the driver at that time. Neither the suspect or the tractor trailer driver reported being injured in the crash.
It is believed the suspect struck several civilian vehicles as he drove erratically around I-695. Troopers have had contact with one driver who was struck and are attempting to identify the others.
Details are few at this time. The investigation is continuing.
In addition to Baltimore County Police, troopers from the Golden Ring, Glen Burnie, Annapolis and Centreville Barracks received assistance from Anne Arundel County Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
It should be an interesting string of charges.
