Governor Hogan Announces Chris Shank as Deputy Chief of Staff

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Governor Larry Hogan today announced Chris Shank as a new deputy chief of staff. Shank currently serves as the executive director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention.

“Chris has used his wealth of experience in government and public safety to successfully lead one of our administration’s most important coordinating offices, and I have every confidence he will continue to use that experience to excel in his new role as a deputy chief of staff,” said Governor Hogan.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to support the Hogan administration in this new role,” said Shank. “This is an exciting opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of this great state and help change Maryland for the better.”

Shank joined the Hogan administration in January 2015. Prior to his appointment, Shank was a member of the Maryland General Assembly, serving Washington County as a delegate from 1999 to 2011 and as a senator from 2011 to 2015. During that time, he served as Minority Whip and a member of several committees including the Joint Committee on Access to Mental Health Services, Special Joint Commission on Public Safety and Security in State and Local Correctional Facilities, and the Governor's Commission to Reform Maryland's Pretrial System. As part of his duties as deputy chief of staff, Shank will continue to actively manage the Justice Reinvestment Coordinating Council – a multi-agency initiative to reform Maryland’s criminal justice system – and advise the governor on matters of public safety.

Shank will replace Amanda O’Malley, who is departing to pursue other professional opportunities.
