Government Officials Cracking Down on Preppers
Government targeting survivalists who just want to be left alone
Why would the government want to punish people that are just trying to work hard, become more self-sufficient and take care of their families?
There are approximately 3 million preppers in the United States today, and often they appear to be singled out for punishment by bureaucratic control freaks that are horrified at the thought that there are families out there that actually want to try to become less dependent on the system. So if you use alternative methods to heat your home, or if you are not connected to the utility grid, or if you collect rainwater on your property, or if you believe that parents should have the ultimate say when it comes to health decisions for their children, you could become a target for overzealous government enforcers. Once upon a time, America was the land of the free and the home of the brave, but now we are being transformed into a socialist police state where control freak bureaucrats use millions of laws, rules and regulations to crack down on anyone that dares to think for themselves.
For example, people have been burning wood to heat their homes since this country began. And this is still very common in rural areas. But the Obama administration does not like this at all. The Obama bureaucrats at the EPA fear that our little wood stoves may be contributing to “global warming”, so they have outlawed the production and sale of 80 percent of the wood stoves that are currently in use. The following comes from a recent Forbes article…
It seems that even wood isn’t green or renewable enough anymore. The EPA has recently banned the production and sale of 80 percent of America’s current wood-burning stoves, the oldest heating method known to mankind and mainstay of rural homes and many of our nation’s poorest residents. The agency’s stringent one-size-fits-all rules apply equally to heavily air-polluted cities and far cleaner plus typically colder off-grid wilderness areas such as large regions of Alaska and the American West.

Georgetown Man Charged in Middleford Robbery
The incident occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. Monday January 12, 2015 when a 61 year old male victim had just exited the Middleford Deli located at 10056 Middleford Road after making a purchase. As the victim entered his vehicle and closed the door, a black male subject approached and opened the door, immediately placing an unknown type of handgun to his neck. The suspect demanded money from the victim who turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled the parking lot in a white in color Oldsmobile Aurora.
The victim, who was uninjured during the confrontation, was able to give dispatchers in the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (9-1-1) and responding troopers a description of the suspect and vehicle which was broadcast over the police radio.
Just over an hour later, two State of Delaware Probation and Parole Officers observed the vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, and with the assistance of Millsboro Police Department, conducted a traffic stop on Delaware Avenue in the limits of Millsboro. Saint Joe J. Petion, 26 of Georgetown, was taken into custody without incident and turned over to troopers. Petion was transported back to Troop 4 in Georgetown where he was charged with Robbery 1st and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $100,000.00 secured bond.
Blue billionaires on top
Democrats spent much of the 2014 campaign castigating Republican big money, but, it turns out, their side actually finished ahead among the biggest donors of 2014 – at least among those whose contributions were disclosed.
The 100 biggest donors of 2014 gave nearly $174 million to Democrats, compared to more than $140 million to Republicans, according to a POLITICO analysis of reports filed with the Federal Election Commission and Internal Revenue Service.
Donors who gave mostly or exclusively to Democrats held down 52 of the top 100 spots, including that of the biggest by far – retired San Francisco hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer, who spent $74 million helping Democratic candidates and groups.
Of course, that edge doesn’t take into account contributions to deep-pocketed non-profit groups that don’t disclose their donors. They heavily favored Republicans, with reports showing conservative secret money non-profits outspending liberal ones $127 million to $33 million. While that’s just a fraction of the overall undisclosed money spent in 2014, it’s indicative of a dramatic imbalance in a type of big money spending that likely would close the gap between Democratic and Republican top donors, if not put Republicans ahead.

How OPEC Weaponized the Price of Oil Against U.S. Drillers
Shale oil production in North Dakota, U.S.
If there ever was doubt about the strategy of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, its wealthiest members are putting that issue to rest.
Representatives of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait stressed a dozen times in the past six weeks that the group won’t curb output to halt the biggest drop in crude since 2008. Qatar’s estimate for the global oversupply is among the biggest of any producing country. These countries actually want -- and are achieving -- further price declines as part of an attempt to hasten cutbacks by U.S. shale drillers, according to Barclays Plc and Commerzbank AG.
Crude fell 48 percent last year and has declined 35 percent since OPEC affirmed its output target on Nov. 27. That decision, while squeezing revenues for OPEC members in 2015, aims at preserving their market share for years to come.
Oil Prices
“The faster you bring the price down, the quicker you will have a response from U.S. production -- that is the expectation and the hope,” said Jamie Webster, an analyst at consultants IHS Inc. in Washington. “I cannot recall a time when several members were actively pushing the price down in both word and deed.”
Holding Out
U.S. crude production totaled 9.13 million barrels a day last week, up about 1 million barrels from a year ago and 49,000 from the OPEC meeting in November. Horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing in underground shale rock have boosted output by 66 percent over the past five years. Exports, still limited by law, reached a record 502,000 barrels a day in November, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The four Middle East OPEC members are counting on combined reserve assets estimated by the International Monetary Fund at $826.4 billion to withstand the plunge in prices. Petroleum represents 63 percent of their exports. At least 10 calls and several e-mails to the oil ministries of all four countries on Jan. 7 and yesterday weren’t answered.
The price decline will cost all 12 OPEC members a total of $257 billion in lost revenue this year, according to the EIA. Venezuela has a 93 percent chance of defaulting on its debt over the next five years, according to CMA, a data provider owned by McGraw Hill Financial Inc. President Nicolas Maduro said Dec. 13 that “there is no possibility of default” and on Jan. 7 that the country has “the capacity to obtain the financing” it needs.

French police commissioner 'shot himself dead in his office after meeting relatives of a Charlie Hebdo victim'
A French police commissioner has reportedly taken his own life after meeting the relatives of a victim murdered in the Charlie Hebdo massacre.
Helric Fredou, 45, shot himself in his office with his police-issue gun on Wednesday night in Limoges, a city in central France, according to France 3.
Commissioner Fredou began his career as a police office in 1997 and had been the deputy director of the regional police since 2012.
Colleagues told France 3 he was 'depressed' and overworked, and said he was single and had no children.
Brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi shot 12 people dead at the Charlie Hebdo offices on Wednesday before seeking refuge in a print works.
They were killed on Friday afternoon during a shoot-out with police, as was their alleged accomplice, Amedy Coulibaly, who killed four hostages at a kosher supermarket in Paris.
France's national police union has expressed its 'sincere condolences' over Commissioner Fredou's death and said they were thinking especially of his colleagues.
A statement the morning after the death read: 'It is with great sadness that we were informed this morning of the death of our colleague Helric Fredou, assigned as Deputy Director of the Regional Service Judicial Police in Limoges.
'On this particular day of national mourning, police commissioners are new both hit hard by the tragic death of one of their own.

Governor Designates Three Downtown Development Districts
Wilmington, DE – Following through on the state’s commitment to help revitalize downtowns and surrounding neighborhoods in Delaware’s neediest areas, Governor Markell today announced he has selected Seaford, Dover, and Wilmington for designation as Downtown Development Districts (DDDs). Under the DDD program, the first three DDDs must include one District in each county.
“The Downtown Development District program has generated a high level of enthusiasm and interest, and I was impressed by the overall quality of the applications submitted,” said Governor Markell. “In addition to demonstrating significant need, each of the winning applicants submitted thoughtful plans with detailed strategies to strengthen neighborhoods, spur private investment, and improve housing opportunities for residents of all walks of life. On behalf of the state, I look forward to working in partnership with the winning applicants as they make their plans a reality.”
The DDD program was created by legislation proposed by the Governor and passed unanimously by the General Assembly last year. Under the program, designated Districts will be entitled to receive significant development incentives and other benefits to spur investment and community development.

Ron Paul: "Reality Is Now Setting In For America... It Was All Based On Lies & Ignorance"
If Americans were honest with themselves they would acknowledge that the Republic is no more. We now live in a police state. If we do not recognize and resist this development, freedom and prosperity for all Americans will continue to deteriorate. All liberties in America today are under siege.
It didn’t happen overnight. It took many years of neglect for our liberties to be given away so casually for a promise of security from the politicians. The tragic part is that the more security was promised — physical and economic — the less liberty was protected.
With cradle-to-grave welfare protecting all citizens from any mistakes and a perpetual global war on terrorism, which a majority of Americans were convinced was absolutely necessary for our survival, our security and prosperity has been sacrificed.
It was all based on lies and ignorance. Many came to believe that their best interests were served by giving up a little freedom now and then to gain a better life.
The trap was set. At the beginning of a cycle that systematically undermines liberty with delusions of easy prosperity, the change may actually seem to be beneficial to a few. But to me that’s like excusing embezzlement as a road to leisure and wealth — eventually payment and punishment always come due. One cannot escape the fact that a society’s wealth cannot be sustained or increased without work and productive effort. Yes, some criminal elements can benefit for a while, but reality always sets in.
Reality is now setting in for America and for that matter for most of the world. The piper will get his due even if “the children” have to suffer. The deception of promising “success” has lasted for quite a while. It was accomplished by ever-increasing taxes, deficits, borrowing, and printing press money. In the meantime the policing powers of the federal government were systematically and significantly expanded. No one cared much, as there seemed to be enough “gravy” for the rich, the poor, the politicians, and the bureaucrats.

Group of fourth-grade girls planned to kill their teacher with hand sanitizer, police say
ELBA, N.Y. (WKBW/WJLA) – Deputies with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office say a group of fourth graders planned to kill their teacher at Elba Elementary School.
According to the incident report, the Elba Elementary School principal called authorities after discovering a plot to harm the teacher.
Three students, all girls, are accused of planning to put hand sanitizer on different items the teacher would touch. That teacher is highly allergic to hand sanitizer, and police say the students knew this would hurt the teacher.
Sheriff's deputies and other officials met with the children accused of the plot and their parents. At least one parent said the children knew the teacher could become very sick from contact with hand sanitizer, according to the incident report.

Rights group calls for UNHRC to expel Saudi Arabia
GENEVA – The U.S., France, Germany and the UK should lead a United Nations effort to finally expel Saudi Arabia from the 47-nation UN Human Rights Council after the fundamentalist regime publicly flogged blogger Raif Badawi today for "insulting Islam," said Geneva-based rights group UN Watch.
In addition to 10 years in jail, Badawi was sentenced to receive 50 lashes every week for 20 weeks, for a total of 1,000 lashes. His crime was creating a liberal blog.
"By keeping Saudi Arabia in this lofty position, where the Saudis can judge others and influence the very definition of basic human rights, the UN shields this tyranny, granting legitimacy to a repressive and brutal monarchy that tramples freedom of speech, religious freedom and the equality of women," said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch.

When Will We Wake Up?
The three Muslim gunmen who killed 12 journalists in Paris targeted not just those people and their satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, but a core ideal and human right of the West––the right to free speech in the public square defined by tolerance for different opinions. That’s why the killers, after they had called out the names of their individual victims before they shot them, bragged as they made their escape that they had “killed” Charlie Hebdo. That’s why they also cried, “The Prophet has been avenged,” since the magazine had frequently spoofed Mohammed, most famously in its reprinting in 2006 of cartoons parodying Mohammed. Apparently President Obama was prescient, at least in the case of the twelve dead Parisians, when he warned in 2012, “The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam.”
Our leaders regularly scoff at the notion of a “clash of civilizations” between the West and Islam, as Secretary of State John Kerry did when he said the attacks were “part of a larger confrontation, not between civilizations, no, but between civilization itself and those who are opposed to a civilized world.” The jihadists know better, and like all enemies, they get a vote. They don’t just want to brutally kill people in order to terrorize us into appeasement of their demands. They want to kill our fundamental principles.

Don’t Give In on EPA Regs
The new Congress will be tempted to concede for the sake of Keystone. It mustn’t.
With the new Republican congressional majorities in place, the time has come for Obama’s Climate Action Plan to face the music. But with the president advertising his intent to use his veto power to defend what he sees as his achievements in his fight against climate change, victories by either side are going to come hard fought.
Already there is talk of trading concessions on energy policies for support of the Keystone XL pipeline. But throughout this process, Republicans need to distinguish between issues that are largely symbolic, like the Keystone pipeline, and those that are concrete and invasive, such as burdensome EPA regulations.
In the grand scheme of things, the Keystone XL pipeline is of little significance to anything tangible — including gas prices, jobs, and, yes, the environment. The price of gasoline is for the most part determined by global forces in the oil market, of which the Keystone XL oil will be but a drop. The pipeline’s job-creation potential is largely ephemeral; although the construction of the pipeline will create tens of thousands of jobs, the operation of it thereafter is expected to create fewer than 100 permanent jobs. And least significant of all is its impact on climate change. If it were to operate at full capacity for the next 85 years, the consumption of oil delivered by the pipeline would lead to global warming of less than a hundredth of a degree — an amount that is scientifically undetectable and environmentally inconsequential.

Veterans Condemn Obama’s Failure To Stop At Scandal-Plagued VA Hospital
President Obama’s visit to Phoenix, Ariz., is none without controversy. Obama is staying in a hotel just a few blocks away from the troubled Phoenix VA hospital. Rather than visiting the hospital to see the problems firsthand, his motorcade passed it without stopping.
“We would think if he was serious about VA reform that he would come down to the Phoenix VA, see what the problems are,” Matthew Kenney of Concerned Veterans for America said. “See them firsthand and come up with solutions on how to fix it.”
The group called it a “slap in the face” to veterans.
The Phoenix VA hospital is infamous for accusations of numerous patient deaths because of secret waiting lists.

Electricity from coal plants can cause MORE pollution than gasoline
People who own all-electric cars where coal generates the power may think they are helping the environment.
But a new study finds their vehicles actually make the air dirtier, worsening global warming.
The controversial study raises major questions over the future of 'green' cars. 'Unfortunately, when a wire is connected to an electric vehicle at one end and a coal-fired power plant at the other end, the environmental consequences are worse than driving a normal gasoline-powered car,' said Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution for Science, who wasn't part of the study but praised it.
Driving vehicles that use electricity from renewable energy instead of gasoline could reduce the resulting deaths due to air pollution by 70 percent, it concluded.
Ethanol isn't so green, either, the researchers claimed.
'It's kind of hard to beat gasoline' for public and environmental health, said study co-author Julian Marshall, an engineering professor at the University of Minnesota.
'A lot of the technologies that we think of as being clean ... are not better than gasoline.'
The key is where the source of the electricity all-electric cars.
If it comes from coal, the electric cars produce 3.6 times more soot and smog deaths than gas, because of the pollution made in generating the electricity, according to the study that is published Monday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The Party of Snobbish Elites
A gentrified cocoon of progressive privilege has cost Democrats the middle class.
Democrats for over a century were associated with the American middle class.
Working-class voters once believed that Democratic-inspired intervention into the economy — minimum-wage laws, overtime pay, Social Security, Medicare, workers’ compensation — protected their interests better than unfettered free-market capitalism.
Republicans often had trouble selling the argument that an unleashed economy and new technology would relegate poverty to a relative, not absolute, condition — something like suffering with a cheap, outdated iPhone 4 while the better-off could afford an iPhone 6.

So Why Is Obama Pushing For Free Community College?
Look, I've never claimed to be the smartest person in America but it does crack me up when your Main Stream media simply follows whatever politicians are telling you and refuse to put any additional thought into what they are trying to say and do.
Let's go back to when I was running for Mayor. As I went door to door I discussed the troubles Universities were about to confront based on the new Online College competition.
I stated that I was a forward thinker and Salisbury should be well prepared. Heck, even last week I came up with a proposal for grade schools and dividing the A & B Students from the C, D & E Students.

Should A College Degree Guarantee A Decent Paying Job?
Interesting how all of a sudden the President comes up with a similar program, except his is with Community Colleges all of a sudden. Hmmmm, are they following Salisbury News?
Now, who finances ALL Student Loans? The Government does. Who's thinking ahead, the government is. They know that the Online College degrees will seriously compete with local, state and Ivy League Colleges. They also know that IF they tease them into a Community College, the major majority will NOT switch their final 2 years for an Online Degree, unless your a Fire Chief, or something.
It's all about the money and closing off the competition. If you stay home with your Parents you don't have to provide a car, insurance, housing, food, the whole nine yards. However, if you go off to college and like many students do, they go to a Community College for two years and finish off their education at a larger and more respected College. Therefore, (in most cases) the government is going to provide the finances and collect interest on that money.
Never underestimate a FREE deal. Especially when it comes to our government.

The Cost Of Obama's "Free" Community College Vision To Taxpayers? $60 Billion

Apparently now, far too late, even the community organizer-in-chief realized that with $1.2 trillion in student loans, almost double the total outstanding credit card debt, which as the TBAC warned will rise to a mindblowing $3.3 trillion in one decade all else equal...

How Maryland Is Restoring Its Oyster Population
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Steve Vilnit didn’t expect to become Internet famous for a picture he took one sunny day back in November.
Vilnit, director of Fisheries Marketing for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, snapped a plain photo of an oft-tried seafood demonstration – two fish tanks filled with murky algae; one packed with oysters.
Within an hour, the tank filled with oysters was clear. The contrast of the two tanks was startling enough to be reposted online 6,000 times from Vilnit’s Twitter account, before it was picked up and republished on three of the most highly trafficked websites in the world: Reddit, Imgur and Upworthy.

Obama Will Hold Summit on 'Countering Violent Extremism'--Not Radical Muslim Terrorism
(CNSNews.com) - White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest announced in a written statement today that President Obama will host a "Summit on Countering Violent Extremism"--not radical Muslim terrorrism--on Feb. 18 and that the event will be held "in light of recent, tragic attacks in Ottawa, Sydney and Paris."
The statement said one "theme" of the summit would be "religious leader engagement," but made no mention of radical Islamic terrorism. It also made reference to "foreign terrorist fighter recruitment" generically, but made no specific mention of radical Islamic terrorist groups recruting fighters in Western nations.

Muslim Cleric Defends Paris Terrorist Attack
In the wake of the terrorist attack on the offices of French satirist paper Charlie Hebdo, one Muslim cleric justified the murders under Islamic law.
USA today published a column by avowed “radical Muslim cleric” Anjem Choudary. The piece titled “People know the consequences” asks why France would allow the paper to mock Islam, and further excused the systematic murders as justified under Islamic law:
“Muslims consider the honor of the Prophet Muhammad to be dearer to them than that of their parents or even themselves. To defend it is considered to be an obligation upon them. The strict punishment if found guilty of this crime under sharia (Islamic law) is capital punishment implementable by an Islamic State. This is because the Messenger Muhammad said, "Whoever insults a Prophet kill him."
“However, because the honor of the Prophet is something which all Muslims want to defend, many will take the law into their own hands, as we often see.”
The contention that mass murder is in any way an appropriate response to being personally offended is a dangerous slope on which to tread. There is no doubt that some of these cartoons can be seen as offensive to certain people, but that same sentiment can be asserted on nearly any form of speech, especially in politics. Hence, the reasoning behind and the sanctity of the Constitution’s first amendment.
Choudary then reversed the blame for the attack away from the three terrorists themselves and onto the French government:
“So why in this case did the French government allow the magazine Charlie Hebdo to continue to provoke Muslims, thereby placing the sanctity of its citizens at risk?”

France Declares War on Radical Islam, Eric Holder Refuses
After radical jihadists murdered their way through Paris in a three-day rampage that left 17 dead, France hasdeclared its own war on terror.
Appearing on Saturday in Evry, a town just south of Paris, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said the country is at war against radical Islam.
“We are at war — not a war against a religion, not a war against a civilization, but to defend our values, which are universal,” he proclaimed.
“It is a war against terrorism, against jihadism, against radical Islam, against everything that is aimed at breaking fraternity, freedom, solidarity,” Valls continued.
“We cannot let pass a single one of these messages, or a single one of these acts. Our indignation must be clear, total and last longer than three days. It must be permanent.
“We need standards, values and authority. There must be a firm message about the values of the republic and secularism.

ACLU Pockets Hefty Award in Alabama Prison Case
Good news -- Alabama taxpayers have been dunned only $1.3 million by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which sued to end the segregation of HIV-positive inmates in the state prison system.
It’s good news because the ACLU wanted $2.4 million for its successful litigation forcing prison officials to place inmates who have a communicable, fatal illness in proximity with inmates who don’t.
Taxpayers also had to pay a private law firm, Maynard, Cooper & Gale, another $1.76 million to defend the state against the ACLU’s class-action suit, according to Al.com.
In December 2012, U.S. District Judge Myron H. Thompson issued a 152-page ruling against Alabama’s Department of Corrections, ordering it to integrate HIV-positive inmates with other inmates. Separating the inmates, the judge said, violated the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.

JURY FINDS IRVING HENDERSON JONES GUILTY OF POSSESSING FENTANYL WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE
The charges against Jones arose out of his actions on June 19, 2014 when a car he was riding in was stopped for running a stop sign. The Maryland State Police Trooper witnessed an interaction between the front seat passenger and Mr. Jones who was the rear seat passenger. The Trooper approached the vehicle from the passenger side for his safety and was ultimately able to see a plastic bag protruding from the front passenger’s pants. The bag contained fentanyl, alprazolam, and marijuana. Jones was found in the backseat seated next to a digital scale. He also possessed $1,004.00 in U.S. currency and two cell phones.
The facts at trial revealed that the bag belonged to the rear seat passenger, Irving Jones, who threw it into the lap of the front seat passenger and ordered the passenger to hide it from the Trooper. The jury was able to conclude that based upon the quantity, packaging, and types of drugs, when combined with the scale, cell phones, and money found on Irving Jones, that he possessed all of these drugs for distribution.
Irving Jones awaits sentencing as a subsequent offender as Jones was convicted of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute in 2010. He faces a mandatory-minimum sentence.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Maryland State Police and the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force for their work in this investigation and their assistance with this prosecution. Fentanyl is a drug that has caused numerous deaths across Maryland.
Mr. Maciarello also thanked the citizens of Wicomico County and Safe Streets Prosecutor, Richard J. Brueckner Jr., who prosecuted this case.

Muslim Leader Outrage: Genuine or Taqiyya?
As I write this article, France is set to hold a massive vigil for the 17 innocent victims killed in the recent spate of Muslim terror attacks that have paralyzed the country and shocked the Western world. The Jewish community of France has especially suffered, sustaining fatalities very disproportionate to their small numbers.
Just prior to the Charlie Hebdo and related attacks, France was hit with three separate acts of Muslim terror which barely garnered any attention. Two involved car attacks (similar to those committed by Palestinian Muslims in Jerusalem) and a third was a knife attack against French soldiers. All of the perpetrators were Muslims and in at least two of the attacks, the culprits invoked the Muslim battle cry of Allahu akbar. Yet cowardly French leaders chose to ignore the obvious signs, stuck their collective heads in the sand and attributed the incidents to uncoordinated “lone wolves” and “mental illness.”
France, through indifference and cognitive dissonance, has allowed its radicalized Muslim citizens to run amok and engage in an orgy of violence, anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism. It has allowed a cancerous malignancy to fester and metastasize to the point where it is now nearly uncontrollable.

North Carolina city removes sculpture of soldier kneeling before cross
Until a few days ago, a war memorial in a public park in North Carolina included a metal sculpture depicting a soldier kneeling in prayer before a cross. But city officials voted to remove the sculpture to settle a lawsuit claiming the artwork promoted Christianity.
King, a small city of about 6,000 people 15 miles north of Winston-Salem, dedicated the memorial about a decade ago. But the statue was removed Tuesday night, immediately after The King city council voted 3-2 to end the lawsuit. Now, an empty hole can be seen where the statue once stood.
MyFox8 in Winston-Salem, reporting on the controversy the other day, said the memorial is on city-owned land but was paid for through private donations.
“Both sides in this matter wish to avoid further costs, and this agreement will ensure that the City of King will not spend additional taxpayers’ funds to continue litigation in federal court,” the city said in a statement after the vote.
As part of the agreement, the King City Council also said it would stop flying the Christian flag over the memorial and would pay $500,000 to Americans United for Separation of Church and State for the legal costs the group incurred bringing the lawsuit on behalf of local Afghanistan War veteran Steven Hewett.

Kerry announces planned Paris trip, says criticism for missing march 'quibbling'
Secretary of State John Kerry called criticism that no top U.S. officials attended Sunday's massive march against terrorism in Paris "quibbling" Monday, even as he announced a trip to the French capital later this week for talks on countering Islamist violence.
Kerry announced his plans at a press conference in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, where he had made a long-scheduled appearance at an international investment conference Sunday ahead of President Barack Obama's planned visit to that country later this month.
"I would have personally very much wanted to have been [in Paris]," Kerry said, "but couldn't do so because of the commitment that I had here and it is important to keep these kinds of commitments."

NYPD ON HIGH ALERT FOLLOWING ISIS CALL TO ‘RISE UP AND KILL POLICE OFFICERS’
The New York City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies have been alerted to a new threat raised by the Islamic State terror group. The jihadist entity released a new video on Saturday urging fellow jihadists to “rise up” against the U.S. and other Western states.
ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammed al Adnani told those loyal to the Islamic State to “rise up and kill intelligence officers, police officers, soldiers, and civilians” in the U.S., Canada, France, and Australia. “Do not let the battle pass you by wherever you may be. Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents,” Adnani added. He suggested that if his holy warriors did not have an explosive device or a firing weapon, they should instead “smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car.”

Maryland Clocks Thousands Of E-ZPass Drivers Speeding
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Maryland Transportation Authority has clocked thousands of E-ZPass users speeding through state toll facilities, but the agency isn’t issuing speeding tickets.
The Baltimore Sun reports the agency began recording the speed of E-ZPass drivers in 2002. Last year there were 23,454 speeding violations clocked. But there are no signs at toll booths showing speeds are being monitored.
Maryland law allows the agency to revoke a driver’s E-ZPass transponder for 60 days after a second violation within six months. But the agency’s current policy is to mail warnings to drivers caught speeding.

Eating like a Viking can reduce the damaging effects of being overweight
A Nordic diet, full of fish, vegetables, berries and rapeseed oil can reduce the damaging effects of being overweight, a study found.
Nordic researchers discovered the Nordic diet can prevent inflammation which is associated with many obesity-related diseases.
The diet seems to stops the expression of a gene in fat cells found below the skin, which is associated with inflammation.
Inflammation of the fat tissue below the skin, known as the subcutaneous adipose tissue, is believed to cause many health problems such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure.

NYPD issued no tickets during New Year's Eve million-strong gathering
NYPD issued no tickets during New Year’s Eve million-strong gathering
A fascinating, perhaps terrifying, experiment is underway in New York City as rank-and-file cops are giving Mayor de Blasio what he asked for – and more. Having been accused of overzealousness in enforcing the laws and actively seeking-out lawbreakers with stop-and-frisk and broken windows theory enforcement against petty crimes, the NYPD is now a virtual work-to-rule campaign, doing only what is required.
The most startling datum is the news that during the entire week of the massive New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square, no tickets at all were issued in the Times Square precinct. No parking violations, no drunk and disorderly citations, nada. Aside from the open city signal this sent, it also deprived the municipal coffers of considerable revenue. One of the dirty little secrets of American governance is the degree to which law enforcement (and regulatory enforcement as well) has become a source of revenue. The cops are telling the mayor in effect that he is going to pay for his anti-police stance.
But the action, if it continues, will be a test of the broken window s theory, one which has been regarded as near-gospel, thanks to the stunning improvement in crime experienced by New York City and elsewhere once the theory, originally expounded by James Q. Wilson, was implemented.

Rev Al Sharpton admits to taking Viagra
Rev Al Sharpton has admitted to taking sex pill Viagra after police found a prescription with his name on it in the apartment of Sanford Rubenstein, the New York lawyer who was recently cleared of rape charges.
Baptist minister Sharpton, 60, who has been married twice, confessed about the drug while speaking Saturday at the National Action Network in Harlem, The New York Daily News reported.
'They called asking about some pill,' Sharpton told his congregation of supporters.
'I said ''Yep, I took Excedrin, too! You got any other dumb questions?'''
Excedrin is an over-the-counter drug for headache relief.
The comments appear to be a way for Sharpton to overcome the Viagra controversy, which came to light earlier this week.
