Dave Fitzgerald To Step Down From Wicomico Humane Society

While Mr. Fitzgerald has been the subject of what many believe was a Good Ol' Boy appointment to become the Director of the Humane Society, this is a very quiet resignation.

Mr. Fitzgerald will step down some time in November. Volunteers and others associated with the Humane Society are very excited that Fitzgerald is leaving.

Now the question is, WHO WILL REPLACE HIM?

I'm going to remind you, the County Executive and Council have NO SAY who replaces him. The ONLY oversight the County has on this messed up, (death trap) organization is cutting funds each year, should they so choose.

    Can they get Linda back?

  2. Bring Linda Lugo back to take over and get things corrected.

  4. Well good. Hopefully they will get someone in there that knows how to run it. I hope they don't choose that lady, Kim, that works at the front desk. I was in there last week looking at animals and she was very rude.

  5. Congrats to Wico Co Humane Society for not employing someone with such low standards. Well Derrick and Brian should be feeling the pressure now.....lets see what Ocean City does.

  6. Linda Lugo is not the answer. They need to take a serious look at this position. Someone professional needs to be in charge.

  7. There are enough issues with Animal Control in Wicomico County that the County should do their own animal control with authority and quit funding the Humane Society. Put it under the Sheriff's Office and deputize an officer to handle all animal control in Wicomico County including Salisbury.

  8. David Fitzgerald used to ride around with a badge on his belt and combat pants with a radio to act like he is someone. Why are we paying everyone to use portable radios when most of the time they can do business on their cell phones. Wake up idiots, this includes paid and volunteer firemen.

    1. Because radios are quicker communication devices, idiot. If a fireman needs help real quick, whipping out his cell, finding the contact, pressing dial, waiting for the network provider to connect the call, then listening to it ring until the person on the other end picks up might not be as quick as pressing a button on a radio and saying what you need to say. Durrrrr

  9. Such a relief, Humane Society needs a good director to be good with the employees ,not to treat them like they own them. Good old team Kim and David, doing whatever they wanted. Never being wrong, only right ,in the mean time all other employees were treated with disrespect. How come nobody questioned this good relation between David and Kim, why was she getting the honors all the time. She is one of the meanest person pointing the finger at everyone who did not obey her rules got them fired or make them change job for that they cannot take the pressure anymore. Sorry to say that but goodbye old , let's embrace the new and hope the Wicomico County will chose the right person for the job and give right to the employees to have their voices heard when something is wrong.

    1. David is a backstabber and has no respect for anyone that works under him. It's a shame that someone has to be that way. If you work with him, your ok. If you work for him, even better, he feels like he owns you. If you work against him, put all the knives away and watch your back.

  11. Let the Humane Society be the Humane Society and let the Sheriff's Office handle the enforcement part of animal control.

Then who does have a say?

  13. I don't think it matters. I had an awful experience with the humane society a few years back and refuse to support them in ANY way. The woman I dealt with was extremely rude and spoke to my friend and I that would have embarrassed the crassest of people. I say good riddance to the entire organization. Worthless. And I am not sure at what level the government funds them but I would support pulling ALL funding.

  14. I adopted my dog from there in 2004 but I did it for the dog. Never liked the place when I had other dealings with them.

This was during the Lugo era, and I always liked Linda, but I did not like the staff. They treat the public like we are idiots. How could I possibly know what your rules and other BS criteria are? I don't work there, and its my tax dollars that give you that job. So learn how to explain things without being condensing and have some respect.

I am beginning to think that "rude" is the culture of this area, because it seems very few know what the term "customer service" really means.

  15. Not sure if it's the case w/Wic Co but how it works is that a humane society is a private non profit who get contracts with counties, municipalities to house and take care of animals a county employee or city (animal control officers who are usually under a LE agency) may find. The humane society is not owned or overseen by the government just a government contractor so to speak.
Worcester county on the other had does have the Worcester co animal control. Not to be confused w/the Woc Co Humane society a private non profit who happens to hold the contract to handle OC's animal issues.

  16. The Shelter no longer puts down healthy animals. They are very active in getting animals adopted, usually well over 50 a month. They have the lowest price for sterilization, rabies vaccine and micro chipping in the area.

As I recall under Ms. Lugo in addition to having the opposite of the above statements, we had an outbreak of disease (due to unsanitary conditions) that caused all the dogs in the kennels at the time to be put down - nearly 50 as memory serves.

  17. If David is leaving, is he taking Kimberly Monar with him? I was in there one day and she was so crass. She was cursing and talking bad about people while she was at the front desk where people were coming in. She is disrespectful.

  18. I wish I could say this is a shock but c'mon a blind man could have seen this one coming. The corruption runs so deep in this place it has almost become laughable. From the director to the president of the board this place is been a giant game of squeeze the tax dollar from citizens with no ability or call to show where any money has gone. It certainly hasn't gone to the facility unless they are $100,000 awnings on the windows that I'm not aware of. To be frank all those people screaming "bring Linda back" really just need to sit down and read a book somewhere, because clearly they are unaware or just not intelligent enough to see the pattern that has developed here over the years even during Linda's reign. When Linda was "removed" from Wicomico she very quick ran to Worcester however apparently the council in that county had a pretty good bookkeeper because you may recall she was shown the door very quickly. Now you see Fitzgerald (who is a direct relative to the President of the Board) quietly slink off into obscurity with an untold amount that will no doubt never be accounted for. Well it looks like the director position is open again. Wonder who will step up to squeeze the kitty this time? (sorry for the pun) If I had to guess I would bet my tax dollar on Fitzgerald's buddy and SPECIAL friend Officer Molnar the only person hired to be an animal control officer yet refuses to do perform the duties of said position. Now at this time your probably saying "well buddy you seem to have all the answers what should we do then?". Well there's an answer for that to. There needs to be a call for a formal yearly audit from an outside independent organization. Also to prevent nepotism in the workplace the new director would need to be decided by a formal county council vote instead of being left in the able hands of the so called Board of Directors. Now I know this won't cure everything but hey its a start in the right direction, because after all isn't it for the animals and not high dollar vacations.

  19. The Humane Society needs to be run in a humane and caring way.
That completely disqualifies any government agency. (Think veterans and the VA) For the Animal Control Officers to be
County Deputies(solely assigned to AC) has merit. What does the Sheriff think? The County laws are very poor and long over due to be updated.

Although not perfect, when Linda Lugo was running it,it was one of the best times in memory.

  23. I think Bob Culver needs to make sure the Humane Society falls under the umbrella of the county. Linda Lugo would be very good for this position. I have adopted many dogs that were written off by others, but Linda knew how much I loved and cared for all my pets and I always had wonderful service and a positive experience.

Pollitt treated Linda very badly for a fact I witnessed the cruel way he spoke to her and treated her. For a fat guy, he really had a Napoleon Complex!

  24. You people need to know------you have to go through
the HUMANE SOCIETY Director to file a complaint with
the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Now , do you really
think ANY Director of the Humane Society is
going to let that get by them??? You got it right,
Of course not!!!! I know this for fact as I enquired some
time ago as to how the HS works here & was given this
    information from County reps.
NO ONE & I mean No one is held accountable
out there. I fault the County for the way they
are "giving out " the tax payers money to them.
County needs to take responsibility, do a complete revision of the place, & how it's run. The County doesn't want to hear
the complaints----& it's set up so they---or the Director don't have to deal with ANYTHING------ Why,
because unless it makes Television News-----No one will
ever hear about any complaints or wrongs committed there!!!!!
It's totally disgusting & Taxpayers of Wicomico County should
demand better care of THEIR MONEY & make the Director
responsible for our money & the animals & employees as well !

  25. I don't know who in the world would hire someone like David Fitzgerald with the integrity & ethics or should I say the lack of that he has. He is directly involved with the Berlin Fire Co. losing a multi-million dollar lawsuit for harassment & discrimination. He is a HUGE LIABILITY to any company or organization. The Berlin & Ocean City Fire Companies need to force his resignation or fire him as well!

So tell me how and when a fireman is going to need a radio because "he needs help real quick."

Please tell us instead of getting ignorant. Firemen have fought fires for many years and they didn't need portable radios. Not everyone needs to be issued a portable radio just because you are an "officer." The radios should be on the fire trucks to be used during a call not issued as a personal take home radio you dipshit. The County already pays for 4 portable radios for each fire truck and then every wannabe fire officer in the department gets their own take home portable radio. Did the tax paying public know that? Those portable radios cost $2,500 a piece. Now multiply that time four for every fire truck and ambulance and then add in every fire officer which is about 10 to 20 depending on the fire department. They have portable radios for ambulance lieutenants and portable radios for all the fire police. That add up to close to a million dollars in tax money.

So please dipshit tell us when the last time someone died and the radio saved their life at a fire? Oh that's right there aren't that many fires.

  27. The decision will be made by the Humane Society Board of Directors, like any other private corporation. Is Gary Comegys still serving on that? He was during the Lugo era and people had complaints then! Seems that place has had problems for a long time.

  28. David Fitzgearld was hired because he is the director Gordys sister daughters husband .Yep, good old boy network just like when he was mayor of pittsville .As far as kim molnar what a joke!I am surprised she had enough intellect to complete a job app.If things are to change there Gordy AND Littleton have to go.

  29. Rumor is that he applied for and has been offered a job with Wicomico County doing the same job he did when employed by Worcester County.

  30. Is it true that, despite his complete lack of training and experience for the Humane Society position, his salary at the end of his first year was higher than Linda Lugo's after she had been there for ten years?

And that's the way it should be in Wicomico County. Animal Control is totally different from the Humane Society.

I say create a division of Animal Control county wide and create fines and fees that make it self sufficient. If it is better off to fall under the Sheriff's Office I say let it happen that way.

  33. WOW! I am amazed at the lack of knowledge about how the Humane Society of Wicomico County works. If you don't like the way the shelter operates, volunteer and learn for yourself what goes on behind the scenes. The director has to provide documents to the county about where the money is spent, so it is very unlikely that funds are unaccounted for. The budget is very tight, with no room for misconduct. This is a non-profit organization, people, with a volunteer board of directors. The animals are the priority....THE END.

  39. Ok do some people get away with things there that's a BIG HELL YES it's so if one of the other employs do some of the things that others do they would not have a job .That is so not right.. Some people have been there for years and still would be out of a job if they would try to do some of the things that other people get away with..There was two people that did work there for many years and left because he would not meet them half way...He would say one thing and do what he sayed he could'nt do,but would do it for some people that works there.. Please do'nt try to get a hold of a board of directors to say how you feel about some of the things that go on there. That is a big job all on it's own..Do'nt call Gordy and tell her how you feel about some thing she will tell you that he is the director and can run it the way he want's to..There is know one on the board of directors that is there for the employes to go to about any thing..Thats sad... Joe Albero you should try to get up with some of the people that did work there and see what they have to say...I bet that would be some thing too read..Should Gordy step down that is another BIG HELL YES..Let someone new give it a try..YES EVERYONE SHOULD GET THE SAME TREATMENT THERE AND THEY DO'NT THAT IS VERY VERY SAD...Should KIMBERLY be let go ??????????????? maybe or get treat her the same way eveyone else does...
