An average life span for in the wild yes but life expectancy is 30-35 years in captivity according to numerous sites I checked. How about getting your facts straight.

    1. From National Geographic website. Guess all the experts don't agree.
      Average life span in captivity:
      Up to 25 years
      Size:
      5 to 6 ft (1.5 to 1.8 m)
      Weight:
      Males, 220 to 340 lbs (100 to 154 kg)
      Group name:
      Solitary
      Protection status:
      Threatened
      Did you know?
Spectacled bears’ face, neck, and chest markings are, like human fingerprints, unique to each bear.

  6. Seems like an awful lot of animals die at this zoo. This is a very sad sorry. What took so long to determine he had heart problems? And, why wasn't he treated earlier for the problem? Who fell asleep again at the wheel this time?

  7. I always felt sorry for him pacing back and forth and always left the zoo sad that he lived this way. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they just didn't close the place down altogether. If they don't have the room or the funds for more natural habitats for the animals, then they need to get out of the zoo business.

  8. I am an animal lover and advocate, the zoos of the world can be beneficial towards educating the public. Unfortunately, when you see an animal pacing back and forth they are in a habitat that is literally driving them crazy. The constant motion is their only way of keeping somewhat sane. I feel it is helpful to allow the public access to all of the earths creatures. Maybe some would become more appreciative of them. Only a properly sized and appropriate environment should be allowed.

  9. I just wish that these poor creatures had a huge space to live in. Our zoo just isn't big enough for them.

I agree. Most should be in the wild if possible. I understand that can't happen with some animals if they are injured or other reasons.
