When you elect someone who has absolutely no business experience whatsoever, (and a Liberal) you end up with very stupid business decisions. You also end up with a leader who will test drive the most ridiculous ideas while those of us who do have business experience actually cringe, knowing these ideas will immediately fail. We also know that WE would NEVER invest money into these stupid ideas but somehow these Liberals find the funds to start up these really stupid ideas.
Clearly the Trolley idea has proven to be a massive failure but get this, there's a new project your Liberal leaders are about to shove down your throat.
Mayor Jim Ireton and Council President Jake Day want to hire four college students to walk around Downtown to help people find restaurants and promote upcoming events.
You know, I'm sick and tired of these Liberals acting and comparing Salisbury to places like Baltimore, Rockville and D.C.. Yeah, people Downtown are walking around like zombies, so lost, they need HELP finding whatever it is they're looking for. Downtown is so BIG and confusing, we need people down there to help you get around.
I was in Washington D.C. recently and did a walking tour all over Downtown. Funny, I never once saw people walking around offering to help people find their way. Is Salisbury as big as D.C.?
Hey Jim & Jake, I'VE GOT AN IDEA! How about you have Police Officer Downtown who can control those heroin addicts and homeless watching TV in front of WMDT and even offer advice to those very few people who actually are Downtown, rare as that may be.
If it were ME, I'd create a couple kiosk centers with a streaming video that tells you everything you need to know about what's Downtown, what are the upcoming events and guess what, how about even placing a PANIC button with those bright blue LED lights like you see at SU and WORWIC. You already have two kiosk locations with power already there. One is in front of the GOB and the other is next to the fountain on the Plaza.
I'm sorry Folks, I just have a really big problem with stupidity and their idea of hiring students to promote a Downtown NO ONE visits anyway is just plain stupid. Come on Liberals, defend yourselves on this one!
They think the answer to all problems is spending your money.
ReplyDeleteIt's the liberal Democrats way. Paint a pretty picture and smile.
OMG, Joe are you serious? They are actually moving this forward???? Craziest thing I have heard in a while
ReplyDeleteAs I understand, you ran for Mayor before and had a good bit of support, right? Why not run again? Isn't Jake currently uncontested?
ReplyDeleteI am a registered democrat but I have to admit most of my views are conservative, but as of late I am absolutely fed up with things and the way the party is representing itself at all levels from local government to the top!! I can no longer support even as minimal as it was before any of this. Sorry for the rant, back to this topic. This is absolutely insane and is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I agree whole heartedly that the best leaders should come from the buisness world because without that background you can't make sound decisions that are meant to benefit the community and ultimately the economic growth of the area. Also on another note, the downtown area is coming around some and doing better then it once was but untill they can market more retail space down there instead of just bars it will never succeed. I know the days of department stores are gone and we do have a few small shops down there but we need the likes of places say like uptown cheapskate that just moved locations to a new building and opened a kids clothing exchange next door. A buisness like this would of been great downtown t draws a good diverse crowd and can keep people there on a daily basis, our efforts need to be geared to attract these type of places downtown be it through tax breaks or what have you. Sorry for the long rant I've never posted on here before and just wanted to get it off my chest, have a good day
ReplyDeleteThis is truly laughable. Probably sucking up to the Gillis/Gilkerson folks who donated building to SU. Why don't they just ask SU to totally take over downtown? The sons of GG want the whole area to be bars for their buddies and the college kids anyway.
ReplyDeleteI believe what the REST OF US would like to see is to move in the direction of Berlin. However, who wants to invest in boutiques and shops downtown when the heroin addicts and thugs are everywhere not to mention the bars.
People who think the GG crowd are the answer are nuts in my opinion.
Who thinks of these hair-brained ideas....just stupid....the college kids will be at risk for getting mugged

It's to late now Goober!!
It may be too late now, but that doesn't answer the question of why not run again. Joe may of had thoughts about it, and that's what I am curious to know. It's a shame that the office of Mayor is going uncontested.
DeleteHey Jim & Jake, I'VE GOT AN IDEA! How about you have Police Officer Downtown who can control those heroin addicts and homeless watching TV in front of WMDT and even offer advice to those very few people who actually are Downtown, rare as that may be.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely the best option^^^
All you do is try to bring this City and County down. Why not just stay the heck away? This City is in the process of revitalizing and your jealousy is apparent.
ReplyDeleteThe SU president was on Pac 14 the other night talking about downtown potential,so I'm sure she's behind this 100%
ReplyDeleteThe homeless thugs by the bus stop by the courthouse, who wants to see that walking around.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone but me see our win by default disaster of a new Mayor on WMDT last night?
ReplyDeleteI can already tell you, he is not here to help us.
His stance was the following:
Crime is down. - lie
Unemployment is down. - lie
Population is up.
As telling as his statements are, he has already determined that we are living in utopia and his job is done. There is no need to address the true lack of employment in this town or the truer fact that work is only part time, no benefits and low wages. There is no need to address the fact that your PD dept is LYING to you by cooking the books.
Then there was the lovely April Jackson who had some statistics of her own, 33% poverty in this town. ONE THIRD LIVE IN POVERTY. But hey, only 5% of us are unemployed according to Jake
Every other candidate up there had more to say and were better tuned in to the blight of this slum community than the win by default mayor. Thank you April Jackson for your candid and true facts.
We live between Camden & 13 & the college & downtown. We see the trolley a lot. There's NEVER anybody on it, regardless of it's direction.
ReplyDeleteActually, you do find people offering to show you the way and giving directions in DC, especially at the Mall and around the museum areas. They're usually fairly young, articulate, clean looking and personable, and gladly accept tips offered, for their eager assistance to give information and directions. They can often be found near the map signs and tourist information boards outdoors, but they aren't employed by the city. Just enterprising unemployed individuals who've chosen to capitalize on their friendly and knowledgeable demeanor, instead of begging for change or dealing drugs.
ReplyDeleteBut downtown Salisbury? What the hell is there that needs a "guide"? It's a small, localized area that isn't big enough to require assistance to navigate.
After dark, perhaps these "guides" might be more useful as bodyguards and security, though.
Let me guess...those "guides" will have to be at least 3 out of 4 from UMES. And will be found gaggled together on the corner, whooping and cackling and shouting, while "gaining valuable experience while earning college credit" for their "work". Something for the resume', you know.

I am not Joe and he is not jealous and neither am I. These are the most idiotic ideas I have ever seen.
I'm beginning to believe what people are saying about these 2-they are drunks because no sober person would ever have dreamed up such a foolhardy idea much less suggest it to the public!
ReplyDeleteThe idea is so absurd that it is funny.
They are democrats so it's what is to be expected. Clueless.
ReplyDeleteJealous 9:08? Hardly. Try realistic. The city has been "in the process of" revitalization for how many years now? Since the plaza idea? How longs Gillis been involved? What projects of theirs have ever been successful downtown? Show me. Maybe I'm overlooking something. The problem with you people is that you keep on using the same people with the same old tired ideas and haven't learned.
Not jealous at all. Just telling you all how it is and not what you want to hear and you know absolutely without any doubts the criticism is warranted otherwise you would have a defense instead of the tired old "jealous" comeback.
Oh really? Hiring SU students? Where's Shanie on this one? The unemployment rate is very high in the minority community. How about giving those forgotten people an opportunity to have a job other than in the local slaughter house!
ReplyDeleteShanie spends more time in McDonald's than getting the Bury together time for change Fools.
DeleteWhy compare Salisbury to Berlin. Here it is folks. Berlin had a foundation to build on. It was voted collest small town for a reason. You can go to dinner and not get robbed. There will not be a begger on every corner. No dead herion user in a car in the parking lot. There will not be hundreds of homeless people. The library will not smell like feet and ass due all the homeless people living there during the day. Do I really need to go on Joe. Ireton did nothing to help this city. Just like Ohbama a lot of talk about nothing.
ReplyDeleteSalisbury City needs an emena to flush itself of the Iretrons and Shields type of politicians. As for Gillis and Gilkerson they are in the business of making money not helping Smallsbury. I guess more bars would help to move more product and I dont mean alcohol. Figure it out for yourself. White people do use Coke and it comes from somewhere. City is sinking deeper and deeper.
9:08, LMAO, the City is in the process of being revitalized, REALLY?
ReplyDeleteDo you actually realize how big of an Idiot you look like right now!
Let's see, Salisbury was being revitalized under Barrie Tilghman and Mike Dunn too, remember? Oh, you probably don't live and or have to drive past the Old Mall to see just how that multi million dollar failure worked out.
Oh, I know, let's increase volume to the Waste Water Treatment Plant to bring in more businesses and new homes. HOW'D THAT WORK OUT FOR YOU?
Now you look at a crumbling Downtown infrastructure that is completely surrounded by WHAT? The WORST blite and crime in all of Salisbury. Yeah, Downtown is going to be a HUGE success.
Ireton nor Day have any clue how to properly manage Downtown with the conditions it is faced with. Just young inexperienced and naive investors throwing away money on a pipe dream, BUT IT SOUNDS GOOD.
I don't care who you are or what you think, it absolutely was your election to lose and these Idiots, (like yourself) prove it every single day.
I admit I haven't been downtown in years but when I lived on the plaza there wasn't anything to do but visit three restaurants and I also kept a chair propped up against the door at night. With all the trees, fountains, broken benches, and flower beds you probably need a guide just to find an open business. I saw many businesses come and go and nothing changed.
ReplyDeleteEveryone wants to hate on Gillis and Gilkerson for the way deals are acquired but the reality is that once someone new has acquired all the properties downtown, they will be forced to make it work to keep the cash flowing.
I'd like to think there is a plan brewing for downtown and we're not being told what it is.
A few years back I had to "Bury" my dad , then in a couple of years I had to "Bury" my mom , looks like we will have to Bury the "Bury".
ReplyDeleteVote Tim Spies and Roger Mazullo!

Jake Day also bragged about the being 42.5% minority and he said with a smile that by the year 2020 we will be a minority majority city!
WTF!! He is embracing the fact that the City of Salisbury will be a majority minority city?? You people better wake up and do your best to stop that. Does anyone out there have a brain? What is Detroit? What is Chicago? They are majority minority cities ran by Democrats!!!!
That is not what Salisbury or Wicomico County needs! Even if you live outside the city limits in Wicomico county your work and/or shopping is done in the city. What does that mean to you? Higher crime, more poverty, higher taxes, higher water and sewer bills, higher cost to do business in Salisbury just to pay for the entitlement of lazy minorities.
It will be called OBAMABURY.
DeleteSpend the extra money on gas and shop in Delaware
Delete11 AM yea I missed that point, but remember him saying it. Thank you! He was giddy with ignorance and came across as a total fool.
ReplyDeleteI do my shopping in Seaford, I have no use for Salisbury.
ReplyDeleteIf Jim Ireton is voted in to the City council he will be whispering in jakes ear and the continuing demise of the Bury will continue.

Used to be the band of gypsies living in Hagerstown/Martinsburg WV that would come down to DC and all the while they were being so helpful and articulate giving you those directions, another was stealing your wallet right out of your pocket or pocketbook. Some were so good they could steal a pierced ear ring right out of someone's ear undetected.
Not sure if it's the same group still operating this scam but I do know Hagerstown and Martinsburg still have a large gypsy population.
Some of you wonder why Donald Trump and Ben Carson are doing so well? It is because of the stupid, dumb, moronic Democrats and ideas like this one. Normal, hand working, God loving people are sick and tired of the lack of leadership and "throw more money at it" policies of the Dems and those in office. We do need outsiders to straighten this mess out. Salisbury is doomed because all the people on entitlements will continue to vote in the Dumbocrats. Hopefully, it isn't too late for the country.

They would drive out early from HT and MB, WV and the men would be out doing driveway paving scams in Northern VA. Some of the women would hang out with them so they could run and cash checks before unsuspecting victims became aware and tried to stop payment. The other wives would take the kids into DC to hustle tourists.
I really think Jimbeau is losing it again. He has missed a couple of events and the Salisbury University Forum was the most important one. The only one he attended was the NAACP Forum and he was ready to bail out then.
ReplyDeleteIf he gets elected you will see him quit again. This guy is a ticking time bomb. He wants to be somebody and he bailed out on mayor because he knows Jake would spank him. If he gets elected he will demand to be the President of the Council.
My guess is that Jim gets elected and ends up quitting and leaving the city high and dry.

I wouldn't live in Salisbury if u gave me a free house, it is the armpit of america
ReplyDeleteGot a haircut down town month or so ago. Decided to take a walk around just to kill some time. After about 15 min. I needed a guide to show me where to throw up.
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind would want to walk around in downtown Salisbury?
ReplyDeleteSeriously who in their right mind needs a guide to give them directions. If someone needs directions downtown instead of a guide to give them directions somebody better be calling the guys in white jackets if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing but crazy and stupid. I'm surprised the president of the college would put the kids in peril like this. I pray nothing happens to any of them.
ReplyDeleteWhy waste taxpayer's money on this foolishness? Why not establish businesses downtown that will create an environment that people will want to come downtown and shop and browse the shops and actually make purchases. These anticipated shoppers must have a place for them to park. However the mayor has shot himself in the foot by getting rid of the closest parking spaces in favor of the projects being built. So I guess establishing businesses downtown is a waste of time, money, and effort. Go liberals!
Breaking News:
ReplyDeleteSalisbury to merge into Gillis-Gilkerson!
The gilllis crew are the only ones making $ in the bury with the help of the Pt Mayor.
DeleteIn reality... those who are "touring" walking around downtown are in the area visiting their family and friends. Either a student at the university or on Holiday to the beach areas. Of course you do have individuals in town for special occasions ie; weddings and funerals. My point is that in today's world of communication and electronic devices these visitors can really find their own way without the help of a "do good-er or a impaired individual." and they are most accustom to using that as their choice of direction .
ReplyDeleteJake Day is a freaking failure!!

Why would you admit you are a registered Democrat? Why are you still a Democrat? You stupid idiot!
6:53, that was pretty rude. There are a LOT of registered Democrats that are fed up. Why not be thankful that they are coming around. Smart enough to finally see documented information proving everyone has been lied to.
ReplyDelete8:45, Salisbury had ONE shot at my running the City. The job only pays $35,000.00 a year.
ReplyDeleteFor starters, I had to move away from my Family for more then a year just to RUN for Mayor. I lived 5 days a week in Salisbury and 2 days a week in Delmar.
Now, if I had won the election, that meant while I was Mayor I'd have to continue living in Salisbury and be away from my Family. Trust me, I'd rather spend my time with my Wife and Grandson then live in Salisbury.
To better answer your question though, I am not and have not been a Salisbury resident for almost 3 years now. Based on the residence requirement, I cannot legally run for Mayor anyway.
Let me also say this. If I had become Mayor I would have been a republican up against a Council that is all democrats. No matter what I would have brought to the table, the democrats would have removed each item from the agenda and my ideas to move the City forward in the right direction would never see the light of day. Trust me, the democrats have the City so LOCKED in their favor it isn't funny. You people really have no clue just how bad and desperate these people are and that includes screwing you along the way.
I'll close with this. No one in their right mind is going to take on that job for $35,000.00 a year. Make it $100,000.00 a year and get a REAL business person in there and you'll not have Idiots with no experience even considering running. Believe me, it would be the best hundred grand the taxpayers ever spent.
Even worse is doubling down and putting Jake day in there.

I agree! I am sick and Fn tired of hearing about it. Nothing, I say nothing is going to bring down town back. It hasn't happened for over 50 years and many experts have tried so what makes you morons think your idea is going to change. Using those UMD students was a joke. Downtown is historic downtown and it doesn't need to be changed. Fk those so called millennials that Jake Day keeps bragging about. His numbers are not accurate and that is a slap in the face to the older people of our city. They still participate and they vote. Your young buddies are not here to stay so get loss.
Where do I apply for this goof-off job? That is, IF I can carry a sidearm..
ReplyDelete
