Mitt Romney Predicts: 'I Don't Think It's Likely That Donald Trump Will Be The Nominee'

On Oct. 18, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said that he doesn’t think Donald Trump will end up being his party’s presidential nominee.

After speaking for some time on Oct. 18 about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s track record as secretary of state, CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper asked Romney how the two current front-runners would come out in a hypothetical matchup.

“Are you afraid that Donald Trump will not be able to beat Hillary Clinton?” Tapper asked.

“Well, I don't think it's likely that Donald Trump will be the nominee, but it's obviously too early to tell,” the former Massachusetts governor responded. “At this stage numbers go up and down, candidates have bursts of support.

“Donald Trump has had a lot of support for a long time, and so I think a lot of folks think, well, this could go a lot further than, than people had expected."
