Daughter ‘pocketed’ dead mom’s Social Security for nearly 30 years

A shameless daughter pocketed her dead mother’s monthly Social Security checks for almost 30 years, The Post has learned.

When federal agents knocked on Chiquita McCullough’s door in September 2014 to investigate the $291,313 fraud, she acted as if her mom, Rose, was simply out.

“I asked for [her] mother by name, and McCullough initially stated that her mother was not there,” Social Security Administration special agent Lori Kleinman said in Manhattan federal court papers.

“I then asked where [her] mother was, and McCullough stated that her mother died in June. I then asked what year [her] mother died, and McCullough stated that she believed it was 1990.”

  3. Now would someone tell me how in the world they expect a 66 year old women to get $291,313 to pay back to anyone? I live in the real world. Another agency not keeping up with what is going on. Social Security, Welfare, Medicare etc. fraud being committed everyday and they do not discover it until that much money is gone. No wonder the government has no money in Social Security, they are giving it to dead people.

  12. Shame on Ms. McCullough is absolutely due but even greater shame on SSA who should have had checks and balances ingrained in the system to know when someone has died. Don't funeral homes or hospitals have to report the death to SSA? Even now, the article mentions that this woman was caught due to a new system in place that questions payment after 3 years of no medicare/medicaid benefits being utilized? 3 years is too long to wait nevermind 30! Come on SSA and get your act together!
