Ex-George W. Bush Speechwriter: GOP Elite, Media Helping Trump

The unrelenting criticism of brash-talking Donald Trump by the Republican "elite" and mainstream media is only making the real estate billionaire stronger in his presidential run, according to President George W. Bush's former speechwriter Matt Latimer.

In a commentary for Politico Magazine, Latimer argues the first GOP debate on Fox News next week "is already a total backfire for the establishment."

"Based on the latest polls, it will likely include every single one of the candidates the Republican elite despises: Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz—and banish to the losers' consolation round exactly the types of candidates the establishment presumably wants to showcase: a female business leader, an Indian-American son of immigrants and the consensus-building governor of the crucial electoral state of Ohio," Latimer writes.

"The controlled, somber and oh-so-civilized process that the GOP promised its donors is now the biggest free-for-all in American political history."

Republican party leaders wrongly assumed they could "bully people like Trump out," Latimer writes.

"That Trump is mocking and bewildering the reviled GOP hierarchy… fills the GOP electorate with a not-so-secret glee," he adds.

"To many voters, rightly or wrongly, Trump is the antidote to years of Washington’s cynical, manufactured outrages, the petty punishments of those who deviated from the party line, its broken promises, meaningless 'show votes,' careful, poll-tested politician speak and a multitude of backroom deals that have solved exactly zero of our nation’s problems," he writes.

And he adds, Trump's total takeover of the presidential race "without breaking a sweat" must be "deliciously humiliating … for the political pros of DC. "

  1. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. A majority of Republicans are fed up with the GOP RINO elites kissing Democratic butt and neglecting the will of the people. They are looking for somebody, anybody that will stand up to them and the media regardless of the consequences.

  2. It is wonderful to listen to Trump speak up and not back down to anyone. Finally, someone who isn't afraid to say what a lot of others are thinking.

  3. The Dems are laughing all the way to the polls on this one. While the Republicans are swooning for Trump, no one in their right mind actually think he would be a good president. A Trump candidacy is a vote for any Democrat. Think, people. Do you really want Hillary to have such an easy time? Do you really think that buffoon has any chance at all when the votes really count?

Not that I expect someone like you to do it but, Newsmax has an article about Trump that you really should have a peek at. Author Kessler: We've Yet to See the 'Real Donald Trump'.
His second in command, Norma Foerderer, reveals details of the man that 'trump' any MSM or RNC rant.

  9. Anyone who supports a Bush presidency is totally illiterate of recent U.S. history. And, probably has NFI where this 'crime family' came from or has gotten away with in the past.

    1. You know this like the third post that you posted about the bush crime family. If you REALLY want to see a crime family just look at the Obama clan. Then compare the two and I think you'll begin to get it.

  14. 1:53PM,
Obie merely took the hand-off from GW's family [after all he's related to Dick Cheney]., you do know the part he plays in all of this, right? Hopefully our 'boy' Obie won't get a chance to lateral to Jeb.
Do yourself a favor, pal, research the Bushs., I mean some real in-depth stuff not surface glitter. I talking letters from presidential libraries, transcripts from meetings, leaked memos, etc. You've got access to the same search engines that I do, use 'em., or stay illiterate of the truth.
