Dad shoots down drone hovering over sunbathing daughter

LOUISVILLE, Ky -- A dad in Kentucky says he did what he had to do to protect his teen daughter's privacy. He says he noticed a drone with what looked like a camera, hovering over his daughter. So he ran inside, got his gun and shot it down.

"I didn't shoot across the road, I didn't shoot across my neighbor's fences, I shot directly into the air," William Merideth said.

That's when he says four men cam onto his property.

"They asked me, 'Are you the S-O-B that shot my drone?' and I said, 'Yes I am,'" he said. "I had my 40 mm Glock on me and they started toward me and I told them, 'If you cross my sidewalk, there's gonna be another shooting.'"

    4. 2:39...in this country we have a right to privacy in our homes and the right to defend it.

  3. 40 mm is a hot round. Missed drone and kill someone. Then he thinks he can kill a person if they approach him? Owning a gun comes with tremendous responsibility.

    1. Yes it does. Like protecting your family when 4 jack offs come to your back yard in a hostile manner.

    2. Describe to me a hostile manner then allows to use deadly force?

    4. 40mm? 1..he used a shotgun on the drone. 2. He was carrying a 40s&w cal. (Not mm..no such thing) when the drone owner arrived.

    5. No weapons no ages no bugles in waist band? Just someone being loud bc you destroyed their property and you kill them? Try again. 25 to life.

    6. He got arrested for using a gun residential area not posing a threat. Doesn't matter the caliber but thank you for clarification of weapon. Moron.

    7. 629. Their is definitely a 40mm gun. 100 percent for sure. Moron.

  4. 2:38 here in Virginia, as in many other states, you can kill someone for coming towards you, we have the "Stand your ground" rule of law, and the "Castle Doctrine". But as far as shooting down drones, a shotgun does a better job.

    2. How is he wrong?? They came in his back yard he told them what would happen and the stood down. Problem solved. What can't you understand. Threat dealt with threat.

  6. 2:38, the "40mm" was certainly a hot round in anti-aircraft guns during ww2, but neither you or the bubba who shot down the drone have enough sense to know the difference between .40 caliber pistol ammo and the massively larger and infinitely more destructive 40mm round!! The .40 caliber pistol bullet is a gnat fart compared to the 40mm ammo those guns fired. A .40 caliber pistol fires a TEN millimeter bullet, not FORTY!! What a bunch of dumbasses!

  12. These drones have the potential to be a serious hazard to flight paths, even if there are no drone flying zones, they will have problems that steer them off course endangering lives on the ground. What happens when all pizza, subs and delivery places, auto part deliveries hop on it to cut salaries? They will be crossing paths, crashing in mid air and falling to the ground with no regard who will be affected. Scenario, kids playing in the yard waiting for the pizza mom ordered, drones collide and two balls of fire rain down on the children. Drones can easily carry incendiary devices or other explosives making it much easier for terrorists to inflict harm at will with very little planning. I am a libertarian and despise government intervention especially in commerce, however, I see really bad things if the drones are flying about like mosquitos in a swamp.

    1. You're crazy just another know it all that doesnt know it all. Its cheaper for delivery places to use humans. It'll be 20/30 years before drones that can carry a decent payload are cheap enough for the general public. Right now a drone that can lift a 5lb payload costs aroubd $10k before spare parts, extra batteries etc. For a delivery company to replace their shift drivers thats over $50k. Plus by that time people would have to have a commercial flying license to fly for a business, they would command a pretty high yearly salary. Drones aren't easy to fly it takes a lot of training and practice to be able to flt them. It took me a couple years before I trusted myself with a $3k custom built hexacopter.

This comment from you is hilarious -

"Scenario, kids playing in the yard waiting for the pizza mom ordered, drones collide and two balls of fire rain down on the children."

Drones run off batteries, not gasoline or other combustible fluids lol. Even most military grade drones run off battery power to keep motor noise to a minimum.

Don't make posts on assumptions and things you don't understand. Do some research before flying off the handle it makes you look bad.

    2. FYI, drones don't travel at that high of an altitude, at least not often. Keep drinking the kool aid.

  13. 3:44 how long did it take for technology to advance to the point you can now carry a PC in your pocket phone. Just because you aren't aware of advances in technology, doesn't mean they don't exist. In your own words, "Don't make posts on assumptions and things you don't understand. Do some research before flying off the handle it makes you look bad." Until then, a simple drive by will suffice.

  14. I do think 3:44 doesn't know that there is a such thing as an electrical fire, be he already knows it all. All mouth, no substance. Wouldn't want to be one of his children because he wouldn't understand that helping to build someone up, by far surpasses trying to put people down. You can tell he has a lot of experience at it, too bad his education doesn't match his know it all attitude.

    1. You really think there's enough time for an electrical fire to develop and rain down 2 balls of fire on children after a mid air collision 200 ft in the air? You're as dumb as 12:45. 3:44 made many good points except the 20/30 year remark. There are drones out there now capable of lifting 50lb payloads for extended periods of time, albeit they cost ALOT of $$$.
