Trooper Involved Pedestrian Crash

New Castle, DE - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a crash in which a pedestrian was injured this morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed the incident happened at approximately 8:42 a.m., Thursday July 23, 2015, as a 23 year old Delaware State Trooper assigned to Troop 2 patrol, was operating a fully marked 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Cruiser and was traveling westbound on Memorial Drive and was the second car stopped at the red light. Once the traffic light turned green the traffic started to make the left turn onto US 13 southbound. The vehicle, in front of the police cruiser stopped suddenly once it turned onto US 13. The police cruiser also suddenly stopped behind the first vehicle. When the traffic began to move forward again, the police cruiser also began to move again and the front right bumper struck the pedestrian in the right lane who then fell to the ground. The police cruiser immediately stopped in the right lane of US 13 southbound.

The pedestrian was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Trooper was properly seat belted at the time of the crash and was uninjured.

It was learned the pedestrian, Dajuan Saunders, 26 of New Castle, had just gotten off of a DART bus at the bus stop on US 13 and started to cross the road right where he stepped off the bus and was struck. The pedestrian was directly in front of an enclosed bus stop shelter. Also, approximately 50’ north of the bus stop is a marked crosswalk with functioning pedestrian crossing signals, which the pedestrian did not utilize.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

  3. The only reason it will be reported, is because there was no way of sweeping it under the rug. Yet they still blame the pedestrian for getting hit. if it was any other civilian, they would be blaming the driver and not the pedestrian.

  5. Whenever it becomes a "fully marked 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Cruiser", it becomes not any car, but a magical coach with all rights of way and one that we all need to see better and allow all rights of passage to.

FU, is all I have to say. You are stopped, and accelerated into a pedestrian crossing in front of your car when he was there first.

You are totally guilty of vehicular assault, failure to yield, and the whole list you would have passed out to me if I had done it.

    GTH.

Don't you ever get tired of making an ass of yourself? You think you can dismiss people with degrading comments thinking they will go away and you will find overwhelming support from the other readers. Wrong on both counts. As per usual with you.

Why don't you do all of us a huge favor and take an hour of your time to form a coherent sentence instead of the usual two or three word fiascos? You don't have our support but you do have our pity. We are embarrassed for you.
