Police Investigating Man's Death Find More Than 1,200 Guns, 2 Tons Ammo

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police investigating the death of a Los Angeles man uncovered an arsenal inside his home and garage — more than 1,200 guns and about two tons of ammunition, authorities said Monday.

Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith called the number of rifles, pistols and shotguns staggering. Many had never been fired and some were still wrapped in boxes, with price tags still attached.

"Our truck couldn't carry it all," Smith told the Los Angeles Times. "We had to go back and make another trip."

There were no signs of foul play. Police have found no evidence the man, who has not been identified, was involved in criminal activity.

  1. I hope it scares the hell out of any soldier or cop who is willing to take our guns. Don't think this guy is alone!

  5. So they just confiscate his property? I hope his heirs get them all back into his estate.

  6. yea the illegal confiscation ruse is... we have to check that they are legal and did not commit a crime.

  8. That is personal property and needs to be turned over to family/heirs!

  9. A lot of the items will be "Lost", and never be seen again, except in a cops gun collection, happens all the time!

  10. He was just a hoarder nut case. a lot of the firearms and ammo that's been sold in recent years has no real purpose except stockpiling. He is an example. That being said, of course, it belongs to his heirs.

He could have made less trouble for them had he just stockpiled his money in a bank or better the stock market.

  11. Must stay with the heirs as Estate Property. No other parameters. Monetary property, nothing else.

  12. CA is worse than MD. Those guns will never get back to the family. If a gun is stolen in MD and recovered, guess what? you don't get it back. The state keeps it.

  13. I agree with a few others. The guns will not make it back to the family.

  14. Even if they plan to give them back don't they have to make sure none of them were used in a crime...not sure why they were his guns. As long as they were obtained legally the family should inherit them.

  15. I guess they will have to check each gun to see if it was used illegally. I wonder who will foot the bill for that?

  16. Man, I thought I was well armed. I told my wife I have to get busy. I feel like a slacker.

  17. Turns out this guy was a government operative. How many of those guns were meant to arm illegal aliens on American soil?
