House voted to ban Confederate flags at Vicksburg cemetery

WASHINGTON —The House has voted to ban the display of Confederate flags at historic federal cemeteries in the deep South.

The low-profile move came late Tuesday after a brief debate on a measure funding the National Park Service, which maintains 14 national cemeteries, most of which contain graves of Civil War soldiers.

The proposal by California Democrat Jared Huffman would block the Park Service from allowing private groups from decorating the graves of southern soldiers with Confederate flags in states that commemorate Confederate Memorial Day. The cemeteries affected are the Andersonville and Vicksburg cemeteries in Georgia and Mississippi.

Pressure has mounted to ban display of the flag on state and federal property in the wake of last month's tragic murders at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

  1. Why aren't people fighting to defend free speech? I can't believe this. Well, here is an idea.

Let's get rid of the Union Flag - after all they never did a thing to help the south in reconstruction.
While we are at it let's get rid of the trademark Yankees. After all, Yankees is offensive to many who live below the Mason/Dixon line. Who cares if they are a baseball team incorporated for the last 100 years. It's offensive. Gotta go.

But rather than kowtow to the liberal politically correct crowd I'm going to be a rebel. Whenever and wherever I speak I will speak whatever is on my mind and if I use a politically incorrect word I'm going to laugh and challenge the listener to do something about it.

    Things are getting ridiculous.

  2. This is pure BS as it is deplorable that our Government is taking away all of our Liberties. This along with the two Supreme Court rulings are clearly making the laws, not interpreting them. This country getting to look more like Greece with all the entitlements that are unsustainable. Or worse yet like Russia.

  5. The federal government didn't have a problem a year ago collecting all the money from the 150th anniversary of the civil war. Now that they is over they can move on with their agenda.

  6. Amazing, we change history to appease a few politically correct morons over the actions of a lunatic. Are people today really this naive? Or more like idiotic? This ruling is nonsense. Another law I simply won't acknowledge.

  7. What are you crying about. You all voted for Obama and his Democrats from MD. You know the white people on the eastern shore who believed he was for all of us. This is what you get when you vote Democrat. Not saying the Republican is much better but NONE of this crap would have happened.

Idiots like you are to stupid to understand they already have term limits. Their elections are every 2 years for Congressmen. If the will of the people is to end their term then it will happen.

  10. This is a violation of people's rights. The families should have the right to place Confederate Battle Flag on the graves of their loved ones.

Another right the government is taking away from people.

  11. Just as Hitler and his National Socialist party did, slowly chip away your rights so you donn't notice till they are all gone!

  13. I guess in a few months they will remove all the crosses at any cemetery. I hate to think what they will replace those with. Maybe a crescent moon?

  15. "The low-profile move came late..."
It seems to me that most of the controversial legislature is 'oozed' through Congress in this manner. Quietly, secretly, deceitfully disguised, shrouded and obscure...
I've come to the conclusion that never voting for an incumbent is the only cure.

    1. That has been my practice, with only a few exceptions. If they have not PROVED they deserve to be in the position, they don't get to "skate" another term.

I really fear what my children and grandchildren are going to face.
Hitler has arisen. Civil war or a march on DC is coming. Of course thats what the administration want to enact Marshall Law.
