Governor Hogan: Flags On Government Property To Be Lowered

Larry Hogan
Moments ago, President Obama ordered the flag be flown at half-staff to honor the servicemen who lost their lives during the attack last week in Chattanooga, TN. Following this act, all flags on government property in Maryland are now being lowered in recognition of the sacrifice of these brave men. My continued prayers are with the friends and family of those five soldiers, and with all the men and women throughout our nation who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

Below is a post on Governor Hogans Facebook page from earlier today.

I am angry and saddened by the acts of violence we saw in Tennessee last week, and I know many people would like to see flags in Maryland at halfstaff to honor our fallen heroes. My sincere thanks goes to the governors of the home states of the service members who were murdered - I would do the same in their position without hesitation.

Under the rules for the display of the flag of the United States of America, the governor of a state may issue proclamations to lower the flag to halfstaff in honor of members of the Armed Forces from their jurisdiction (http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30243.pdf). The victims of last week's shooting were not from Maryland, but we will always honor their service and devotion to our country.

  2. The outrage is the only reason it finally happened. At least it's having some effect.

  3. Governor Hogan and others need to consider the source. Obama is ghetto and while you can take them out of the ghetto you can never ever take it out of them. They will always be of the lower class no matter how you try and dress them up.

  4. If a governor can only order flags at half staff to honor members of the Armed Forces within his jurisdiction, why did New Jersey governor Chris Christie order them at half staff for Clarence Clemons (from the E Street Band) and the next year, Whitney Houston?

It's a matter of respect for those who are vital to our nation's security, not entertainers. And some of our elected "leaders" make a mockery of this.
