More people in Ocean City have been killed by balconies than by guns. Why hasn't Worcester County or the State of Maryland passed reasonable balcony control laws?
There are codes regarding such things, but don't expect OC to do anything to their good ole boy network of business owners. Some of the balconies here have next to nothing railings and low heights.
Oh please 5:04. What about personal responsibility. We were constantly giving warnings about potential dangers as children. It's a parent's responsibility to teach children about such things that could be dangerous. Even animals teach their young such. Where in the hell does it stop. Might as well cage in balconies. Fence off sidewalks so no one can run across the street etc etc. Everything can be a danger and it's up to a person using their common sense and forward thinking skills to protect themselves from the dangers.
Before you can rent a place with a balcony you should have to take a balcony safety class, pass a balcony background test, and have a seven day waiting period. Then pay $150.00 fee and be issued a permit, good for two years, which must be worn around your neck anytime your occupying a place with a balcony. Any visitors would require temporary permits at 10.00 per day and must be under your direct supervision at all times. Any areas with more than two buildings per block that exceed three stories and have balconies would be designated balcony awareness zones and appropriate warning signage erected.Any building with balconies exceeding ten stories shall be required to provide safety nets on all sides containing balconies. WADAYATHINK Sheepies ?
Oh please @7:48 yeah lets blame the parents again! What about these stupid YOUNG ADULTS - you know the ones who just GRADUATED high school or college? They are the ones who get so drunk they think its fun to lean over the balconies, till they fall and go SPLAT! Stop the blame game!
The balcony in last nights incident did not collapse. It had nothing to do with the structure. It was a two story condo and the teen was trying to jump on to something below from the second story, my guess would be the 1st floor balcony. He missed and hit the concrete below. One of the previous incidents of a person falling from the balcony was a suicide. You can't prevent people from climbing up on a railing and jumping no matter how much you try, especially if alcohol is involved.
Common sense died awhile ago, did you not read it's obituary? This is what happens when people are taught to take no responsibility for their actions, in the liberals view it is always someone or something else's fault, not the idiot with brain cells that have ceased to work properly!

ReplyDeleteI agree with 8:16!
ReplyDeletePretty close to the bone, 816!
ReplyDeleteOn second thought, no, you hit the bone directly. This shows how stupid gun laws and most of Osha's Money mongering laws are.
Thank you for your insight.
