Ladybugs Released In School As Senior Prank

CHAPTICO, Md. (AP) — A senior prank in which 72,000 ladybugs were released in a public high school has several youths and adults facing criminal charges.

The St. Mary’s County’s Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that early on May 20, five men forced open a door at Chopticon High School in Morganza, Maryland.

Deputies say the suspects, who were wearing masks and hoodies, released about 72,000 ladybugs throughout the school. Police say two others waited in a car.

  1. We thought that putting a VW Beetle on top of the gym without anyone seeing it in progress was a colossal feat. This ladybug thing is disturbing.

  4. 4:21 They found the online order. You can buy them as part of integrated pest management. They eat a lot of harmful insects that target your ornamental, fruit and vegetable crops. Ladybugs and praying mantis have been sold as beneficial insects for years.

  6. C'mon, man.
They don't bite or sting and are considered a symbol of luck.
Now, some uptight no-fun person wants CRIMINAL CHARGES???
Give some people any authority at all and they can't wait to use it.
    It was a prank.
Would it help if one of the defendants started pleading "It was for the children, for God's sake!!!!"?
    Lighten up.

  8. 5:24 PM yeah B&E...suuuurrrre.

The way the Nazi run things around here I would not be suprised to find out that forcing open a door was really nothing more than opening an unlocked door for the purposes of committing this non-crime.

I hate to see the charges there would be if someone ran through a school naked.

  15. Best Prank EVER: A University of Maryland fraternity delivered 4 dozen donuts to a Sorority that was very angry at the brothers for ruining a party - by being obnoxious - that they had the night before. It was a "peace offering" to the girls.
Two hours later there was a knock on the door of the Sorority house. No one was there, but there was an envelope attached to the door.
Inside the envelope: An 8X10 photograph of the brothers wearing the donuts.
