Gun Store in Ocean Pines?

Association member and OceanPinesForum.com member Bill Warenius alerted everyone today that an individual has applied for a Worcester County zoning variance related to stocking and storing guns for distribution purposes within an Ocean Pines residential area. This apparent gun sale business would be located on Moonshell Drive in Ocean Pines.

Worcester County Commissioner Chip Bertino quickly verified through the Worcester County Department of Development Review and Permitting department head Ed Tudor that the variance request is on the agenda for April 9th.

Warenius wrote, "Approving such a venture in a Multi-family neighborhood for the purpose of distributing guns is unacceptable encroachment on our neighborhood. This is an intrusion on the lifestyle that we all looked forward to when settling in O.P. There is also no assurance that only law abiding citizens would be coming to our streets. These ventures should be in business areas not in a residential area."

There will be a public hearing on the application for a zoning variance on April 9, 2015 at 6:35 pm at the Worcester County Center in Snow Hill, Room 1102.

If this issue concerns you, attend the meeting and make your opinion known. Letters do not have near the impact of attendance. Attend the hearing.

  2. OMG! Not a gun store!
What a scare monger. Don't worry folks. There are at least 5 other locations within 3 miles that sell guns and ammo and all that other terrible stuff. I'm sure the guy in the pines is just selling online. So there won't be long lines of cars pulling up and getting thier god awful guns.

All you want to do is bitch about some one trying to make a living here. The eastern shore has more republican than you Obama lovers and we want the gun shop. "ALERTED" an "DISTRIBUTION" like the guy will be standing out on the street corner handing out guns to passers by, and MULTIFAMILY NEIGHBORHOOD what happened to residential area? Yep definitely a come here that needs to leave here he'd made a good Press Secretary for Obammy one thing for sure he wouldn't live in my MUTIFAMILY NEIGHBORHOOD. Lets give the liberals and illegal aliens California, we'll just have to put up one fence.

  11. LOL-Ocean Pines the Section 8/rental assistance capital of Worcester County and he's worried about this. There is a gun store in Bishopville and Selbyville and both have less crime than OP does now. While there's no assurance only law biding citizens would be coming to their streets, there is factual evidence that shows gun shops don't attract criminals to an area.

  13. At my other house near DC, that sits vacant 99.9 percent of the time, the neighbor does this as he sells at gun shows. We have not ever had a problem in the 30 or more years he has been doing this. Crime including home break ins are non existent even though the homes on the street are unoccupied all day because everyone works. In this area the homes sell between 800,000 to just over a million.
This person is doing a stupid thing. Don't you just love busybodies. He basically just advertised what is going on. He should have left well enough alone and if and when this (which it won't) becomes a problem then take appropriate measures. It's not a variance for a retail business it appears so no one would ever know what inside the home-until of course busybodies open their big mouths.

Ocean Pines Residents don't like guns. Have at it! I wouldn't bother the homes on Moonshell drive though

You need to quit drinking the Obama kool aid. There is not a day that goes by that i read of crime in DC!
If your house in DC is vacant for 99.9 percent of the time means 1 of 2 thing - you got suckered when you bought it and you can't sell it or you are running from a crime ridden neighborhood!

  16. Read much 8:40 I said my house NEAR DC.
I'll give you a hint as to where it is though----The Robt Kennedy family lived nearby as did Jack Kent Cooke and quite a few other notables.
The house has been in the family since 1951. Not one cent is owed on the house. It's vacant 99.9 percent of the time because I prefer to spend my time at my Eastern Shore estate which consists of nearly 4 hundred very private acres and 8 pets. The .1% of the time the house is occupied is when the person hired to water house plants and flush the toilets, pick up the mail and mail to us anything that appears to be important arrives. They also take out the car we leave there so it gets some "exercise" and have it inspected for us when inspection is due. I personally haven't been to the house in several years and it's been vacant since 2000.
FYI-I get countless letters and calls from not only real estate agents, but lawyers who have been contacted by people who want to purchase the property-since I've not ever been "suckered" into anything in my entire adult life, I can very much afford to keep the house and not so much as miss any of the money I have to spend to keep it and maintain it.
    Thank you very much.
As a side note-When Obama was first elected, I was contacted more than once by local democrat organizations who wanted me to rent the house out for the obama inaugural ceremonies. I refused their offers and hung up. I've also been contacted by several embassies who expressed interest in renting it for their staff but we are not interested in becoming residential landlords.
