Why Is This Facility In Vienna Collapsing?

Do they not maintain this facility any longer?
Notice the lower portion collapsing.

  1. Is this the power plant on the other side of the river?

    If not, where is it?

  3. That boiler has not seen fire in a few years. That plant burns oil. No go today. Natural gas is better.

  4. It has been falling apart a for a while but I can say, I have seen the top sections coming off and they did in fact replace them...

They may or may not replace them this time... due to weather or cost...

  6. This is called a chiller, there is obviously frozen water which has made the siding collapsed, but i have seen this operational while driving past it on rt 50.

  7. This is a cooling tower. It's used to cool the hot water from the turbines before putting it back into the river. In the old days the hot water was put back into the river and it was a great rock fish spawning area. As the rock fish stopped coming back, DP&L built a rock fish hatchery on that land and tried to replenish what was taken away by the EPA requirement.

  14. I believe those are lumber slats that water cascades down while the fans pull air through, cooling the water by evaporation. Water rots wood. Ice builds up when it's 5 degrees at night.

This is really not hard to figure out.

Maintenance? Would you like to chip out all that ice to remove the collapsed section and replace them in these conditions, or just wait until the ice thaws? I think in this weather, the water cools just fine on it' own. That's why it turns to i
    ICE.

    DUH!
