Today's Survey Question 3-19-15

Should the decision of an elected school board
be brought to referendum?

58 comments:

  1. Yes, get it over with once and for all. Just because the county council is asking for an elected school board doesn't mean it is going to happen.

This is the chance for the voters to decide if they want an elected school board or not. Put it to rest now. What are they afraid of.

Jim Ireton went up to speak in opposition yesterday and I am wondering why he is constantly attacking Republicans. First it was the Tax Differential on the County Council, then it was Governor Hogan with the silly little sign about highway user funds and now Republicans on the County Council who asked this Bill to move forward. If he wants war I believe we as Republicans are ready for battle.

Again what are they afraid of, it's only on a Bill to allow the citizens to decide if they want to vote on this or not.

  2. I have a question for John Fredericksen.

Did Jim Ireton use his own time to go to Annapolis yesterday to speak against the elected school board Bill or did he get gratis time off/

We as tax payers deserve that answer.

  3. No question about it, absolutely yes.

  4. 6:38, Much like the comments coming in challenging a conflict of interest with Jake Day, the City and Perdue, the Mayor's conflict as a BOE employee and the Mayor of Salisbury should also be considered as a conflict.

IF he did NOT testify for the Board of Ed, would Fredericksen fire him? I read the article this morning and thought, are people reading this imagining Fredericksen with a gun to Ireton's head?

Everyone knows Ireton can't get reelected, so he has to everything he can to keep his BOE job.

  5. No matter what Ireton and Ashanti want, the answer to your question of the day is yes, absolutely, no question about it.

  6. "Ireton countered that it was that same constituency that voted for the tax revenue cap in 2001, one he said "crippled education in our county.""

Ireton just attacked the majority of voters in Wicomico County. Many of these voters are his constituents. WTH does a revenue cap in 2001 have to do with an elected school board in 2015, 14 years later. Give it a rest Jim Ireton you are a basic retard that shouldn't be teaching our children in school.

  7. Let the voters decide!

  9. YES, it is our right.

  10. It is certainly possible that an elected school board wouldn't hold its one employee (the superintendent) accountable for his/her tactics. However, voters could limit how many terms those board members would serve.

  11. We have more important issues that should be brought to referemdum. Lets start with term limits on Congress.

The definition of "Term Limits" is elections. The voters decide term limits.

We have term limits in Congress you uninformed Moron.

The voters decide term limits during every election.

For example Rick Pollit was limited to two term limits by the voter and now we have a Republican County Executive. A perfect example of a perfect system.

  14. 7:46, That is not an answer to today's survey question. Many in WICOMICO County are very interested in this topic on a local level.

  15. Yes 7:54, Congress themselves voted to eliminate term limits for those unaware. Yes we should have term limits on the school board and it should go to referendum.

  16. Yes to a referendum. The voting public should elect the school board.

  17. Speaking of Jim Ireton this is his favorite Butt Buddy Chuck Cook calling the honorable Governor Hogan a liar FaceBOOK!

Well of course Maryland voters are confused. Liars like Larry Hogan did everything they could to confuse them to win an election.
"When told that the so called “rain tax” had nothing to do with taxing the rain and was a charge to curb and treat polluted runoff, 46 percent of those respondents said they would support the fees, and only one-third insisted they would not."
Imagine that! When you tell voters the truth about what the storm water management fee is, they actually think it's a good idea.

Since you know so much you should already know that term limits are part of the language of this Bill for an elected school board.

  19. Jim Ireton and Chuck Cook are the biggest haters of Republicans and any Republican policy. They would be outraged if anyone posted a comment on FB calling Governor O'Malley or Obama a liar.

They both like probably like and elected school board but since it's a Republican idea they will create a scene and go against in and even try to belittle their own "constituency."

  20. I think Mathias is going to kill the senate bill. He refused to sponsor it. It's ok for Worcester County (where he lives) to have an elected school board but those of us in Wicomico County couldn't possibly be smart enough to elect a school board.

    Thanks Jim Mathias!

  21. Yes to the referendum.

PS: No to the rain tax, I know (and knew) exactly what is, another rape the taxpayers initative by Owe Mally.

  22. I have a great idea why don't we push for a Bill to allow the Governor of Maryland to appoint the Mayor of Salisbury!!

If Jim Ireton thinks an appointed school board is a better idea then I think an appointed Mayor is a better idea.

  23. Anon: 8:32 Since you are so smart I suggest you become a candidate for the school board and start posting your name.

Then we in Wicomico County need to make sure that Jim Mathias isn't re-elected in our County. I don't like him representing us anyway.

  25. 8:29, Ireton and Cook are SCAM ARTISTS.

Everyone knows INFRASTRUCTURE was ALL a part of how MUNICIPAL taxes were created. To BUILD and MAINTAIN!

Because LIBERAL thieves took that money and blew it on things like Gay Pride propaganda, taxpayers keep watching their taxes increase while getting nothing in return.

The "Rain Tax" is no different then how the Liberals change Section 8 Housing. THEY want to call it "storm water management" and "Affordable Housing" to throw everyone off.

Your local LIBERAL Media refuses to EDUCATE the public on these word changes in order to keep YOU out of the, lingo loop.

This is why they HATE Joe Albero and Salisbury News. We call these A$$holes out for who and what they are. They may win little battles but just like Hogan and Culver, we will win the WAR.

  26. Dismiss Chuck Cook for what he is which is as per democrat insider Jonathan Gruber a "stupid American" DEMOCRAT
    "voter."
He's incapable of forward thinking and thinking things through so in his own ignorance calls Governor Hogan a liar.
The rain tax has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with rain, not that you can expect Cook to comprehend this as he is intellectually inferior, proven by his blind devotion to the democrats which for his information are the master liars.
If it didn't rain this tax wouldn't be because then nothing would be running off impervious surfaces polluting the waterways.
Again don't expect Cook to understand as he is a first class ignoramus who is incapable of comprehending that the "polluted runoff" is rain.
I hope he's reading this because it's about time he's told how it is and not the BS the democrats are feeding him by the shovelfuls and he's gleefully eating it.

  27. Ireton and Cook. Dumb and Dumber. If Cook actually had a brain he would never have posted such as asinine comment. The runoff he speaks of is rain. Hopefully his parents didn't waste money on an "education" for him and if they did then it's easy to see where he got his dumb gene from.

  28. Makes no sense. Just last week Ireton was holding up a sign admitting he is incompetent and to by pass him and to just call A Boss-The Honorable Governor Hogan.
And now today Ireton's Super Fan Cook is calling A Boss a liar? Makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes it should go to referendum. I also believe any projects over 5 million the BOE wants should go to referendum as well! That is our money and we should have a large say in how large amounts are spent!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ireton played the race card ahahahahaha. He drags out clueless Mary Ashanti to stand beside him ONLY because of her position with the local NAACP. Then he throws in Ernie Davis, noting he is the only black and democrat on council. Oh wait, Ernie Davis, the only black and democrat on council voted FOR an elected school board. Ireton is a complete idiot and he is teaching our children. It's people like Ireton that are crippling our school system.

    Keep up the good work.

If you will notice the scam artists Cook, Ireton and Jake Day call the Rain Tax a stormwater maintenance fee and the idiots say "Oh, then I support because it's a FEE and not a TAX!" What idiotic Morons they are.

  33. I would like to know who and why Jim Ireton took it upon himself to go to Annapolis to speak against the elected school board bill. It's the will of the people Jimbeau and you just keep digging your grave. You are making it easy for Jake Day to take your spot as Mare.

  34. 6:40 AM you already know the answer to your question. Ireton and Freddy are thick as thieves and just as devilish! (You do me a favor, I'll do one for you) we as taxpayers should be sooooooooo sick of both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yep! Let the people decide this issue!

    ReplyDelete
  36. YES we should have to vote on the school board. We are the taxpayers, and we hold the power here.

Since we as taxpayers are always having to shell out more money every year for the BOE to waste on everything under the sun except "the children", we need to vote on an elected school board. A board of and for the taxpayers of this county.

IF they (BOE and Ireton) were actually honest people, they wouldn't be so afraid of this. Because they both are so dishonest, the last thing they want to happen is an elected school board.

It is time each of us, stands up, it's our money and our sacrifice on the line, therefore we have the final say to elect a school board of our choosing.

  38. Has it occurred to anyone that Conway has probably contacted all of his old Annapolis buddies to kill this in committee? He did all he could to support the BOE when in office - talk about conflict of interest for taxpayers when both he and his wife draw retirement from BOE.

Why are the Democrats afraid for the people to vote on whether they want an elected school board or not?

It is because of what they will LOSE. Big salaries in administration will be exposed and eliminated by an elected board.

Ireton should have recused himself from testifying. I wonder if such a conflict is some kind of ethics violation. I would think those of you who live in the city limits would be all over that!

  45. Yes - we need to put all new school construction on a public referendum.

As for Ireton attending the Maryland State House to testify against an elected school board - I too would like to know whether or not he was drawing on the public dole while simultaneously drawing a salary from the BOE.

THIS OUGHT NOT BE ALLOWED - AND HE SHOULD BE REPRIMANDED FROM THE HIGHEST AUTHORITIES.

  46. Absolute not. I am totally unqualified. But I could easily spend $50,000.00, and being who i am, i'd easily win.
