Delmar School Redistricting

Hi Joe,

I was wondering if you could post about this issue. The community of Delmar is really upset. Most parents, like myself, bought homes in Delmar strictly because we want our children to go to the Delmar school district. We are feeling hopeless. Can you help spread the word. Maybe, if enough families are aware, we can prevent this awful proposition from going through. I've attached the website Delmar has created.

  2. I agree that SBYNews is a good place to start, making the public aware of potential problems - then the next step is to voice your opinion at the meetings, to officials, and get friends, neighbors and relatives who agree with your cause to do the same. Joe does his part getting issues out to the people, so don't let the matter drop dead on SBYNews - go forward letting all your voices be heard loud and clear..

  6. Get over it. The districting was screwed up from the beginning and is now being corrected.

  7. Moving for lower taxes or moving for a school is a fools game. It can change on you in a minute.

  8. I PAY ENOUGH TAXES ALREADY!!!!February 11, 2015 at 9:17 AM

Joe- I moved to Delaware to escape Maryland taxes. I have no kids, ever . Why should I have to pay taxes to have Maryland students go to school in Delaware?

  9. 9:17 Because Marylanders are paying for DE children to go to their school. It is known as the Bi-State Agreement.

  10. Don't forget that Delaware is also paying for the Delaware Elementary kids to go to the Delmar Maryland Elementary School.

    1. Then ALL Wicomico County residents should be afforded the opportunity to attend Delmar middle and high school. And how does it work if Delmar, Md. students want to go to Sussex Tech? I do not think think this arrangement would pas a legal challenge .

  15. This process is never good. I went through this a few years ago and made my mind up my children were staying in the neighborhood school. I cannot attest as to whether one school is better than the other but I do know I wanted my kids to remain in the atmosphere I liked. My kids are out of school now but I fully support the bi-state agreement and the Delmar School District. It is shame that no matter where they go all we hear is the overcrowding. How do we fix this? Children should go to the school that is near their home and neighborhoods never broken up. Tough job but it also requires tough decisions.

The elementary school is run by Wicomico County. The middle and high school are run by Sussex County.

  17. What about the Fruitland kids that get split from their friends when going to HS? Half go to Parkside half to Bennett? Cry me a river Delmar.

  18. That's not really comparing Apples to Apples. Do all of the Fruitland kids go to Fruitland Primary and Intermediate? Or are they split up over not two, but three schools? They were proposing that Delmar students go to Delmar, North Salisbury or Willards. Even someone like you would have to think that somewhat unreasonable, don't you?
