White House Still Dodging IRS On Individual Mandate
Americans have to be prepared for an increased individual mandate tax to hit in just two weeks, but the White House still hasn’t gotten around to approving the Internal Revenue Service paperwork on the requirement.
The IRS is trying to comply with federal rules that require White House approval on its new paperwork for the individual mandate. But the White House has rejected one proposal and ignored another, according to new research from the American Action Forum, a free-market think tank headed by former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holtz-Eakin.
The IRS’ workload was upped drastically by the individual mandate, which will require Americans to submit a tax form proving they have health insurance or pay a growing fine to the agency. It appears the Obama administration was running behind on the paperwork requirements as well as pretty much everything else.

Upgrades At US Border Crossing Thrill Commuters
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Motorists at the nation's busiest border crossing were accustomed to waiting hours while vendors paraded between lanes with everything from sliced papaya and hot oatmeal to sombreros and ceramic mugs. Now, thanks to a $741 million construction project, they may not have enough time to lower their windows and order a cappuccino.
Waits to enter San Diego from Tijuana, Mexico, during the morning rush have dropped to less than 45 minutes from two hours since vehicle lanes were added in September. It can be less than 10 minutes during lulls, compared to a few months ago when waits topped four hours on busy weekends.
"I lost so much time that it made me cry," said Tijuana resident Alexandra Acua, driving a friend to the San Diego airport during a recent Monday morning rush. She had stopped crossing years ago because the jams were too stressful. "Now, I'm happy."

Limbaugh: Why Jeb Bush is really running
'It's all about us being the No. 1 enemy of these people'
PALM BEACH, Florida – With the announcement Tuesday by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush that he plans to “actively explore” a run for president in 2016, radio host Rush Limbaugh says the real reason Jeb is seeking the White House is to choke the influence of tea-party conservatives out of the Republican Party.
“You want to know why Jeb Bush is thinking about running?” Limbaugh asked on his top-rated program Tuesday.
“He’s … being looked at as savior by the big-money donor class and the consultant class – the establishment of the party – to head off the tea party. They’re gonna pull out all the stops to make sure that a tea-party-type conservative doesn’t get the nomination.
“It could be a sacrificial run just to make sure that a conservative doesn’t get the nomination in 2016. There’s a whole bunch of stuff under the surface here that’s percolating and effervescing and it’s all about us being the No. 1 enemy of these people.”
In a message posted on Facebook on Tuesday, Bush said he’s discussed his plans with his family.
“As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States,” Bush said.

Jimmy Fallon: “After spending yesterday at the beach, Obama said…”
It looks like comedian Jimmy Fallon isn’t afraid of throwing a few jabs in Obama’s direction. The host of “The Tonight Show” tweeted a joke that liberals probably aren’t going to like.
Fallon poked fun at President Barack Obama’s apparent addiction to avoiding work whenever possible.
“After spending yesterday at the beach, Obama said, ‘This has been fun, but I should really get back … to the golf course.'”
As the saying goes — it’s funny because it’s true

Life in Post-Truth America
Next month Americans will experience the fifteenth anniversary of the time that the President of the United States shook his finger at the country and informed it, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never.”
Bill Clinton was lying. But the lie was more significant than the thing that he was lying about.
When the lie came crashing down, Clinton and his defenders deconstructed the English language, questioning the meaning of every word in his sentence rather than admit that the lie was a lie.
Given a choice between telling the truth or challenging the definitions of such words as “sex” and “is”, they decided to burn their dictionary.

FLASHBACK: Valerie Jarrett Mistakes 4-Star General For Waiter
President Barack Obama isn’t the only powerful man in Washington who was once confused for a waiter when wearing his evening best. So was a top general in the U.S. Army — by Valerie Jarrett!
As The Daily Caller first reported back in 2011, Obama’s top adviser mistook a four-star general for a waiter during a fancy dinner hosted by the Alfalfa Club. According to a Daily Caller source, as the general walked by Jarrett’s table, she signaled to him that she wanted more libation.
“I’d like another glass of wine,” she reportedly said.
Like a gentleman, the career military man didn’t make a fuss of the matter, according to the source.

Dog Brains Process Human Speech The Way Humans Do
All the better for hearing you with. Boris Roessler/EPA
By Victoria Ratcliffe, University of Sussex and David Reby, University of Sussex
Sometimes it may seem like your dog doesn’t want to listen.
But in our study, however, we’ve found that he may understand more than he lets on.
Human speech is complex, communicating not only words but also tone, as well as information about the speaker such as their gender and identity. To what extent can a dog pick up on these different cues?
It’s well established that in humans the left hemisphere of the brain processes meaningful verbal content, as encoded in the fast-changing stream of audible sound. The brain’s right hemisphere, meanwhile, is more strongly associated with other information the voice carries, such as emotional tone – encoded in the voice’s slow-changing or static layers of sound.

'Cards Against Humanity' Sent 30,000 People Actual Poop In The Mail
WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- Makers of the popular game Cards Against Humanity, which bills itself as a "party game for horrible people," recently pulled all products from its website - instead offering boxes of "lactual bullsh*t" that quickly sold out.
The Black Friday shopping special, which the website promised was "literal poop from an actual bull," quickly sold out of 30,000 units, company founder Max Temkin told Time magazine on Tuesday.
The boxes of poop, priced at $6 apiece, generated over $180,000 in sales. Temkin said the proceeds were donated to charity.
“Initially we got a dozen people who were really surprised it was poop, but it was just actual poop,” Temkin told the magazine.

Americans believe CIA interrogation techniques were justified
More Americans than not believe that harsh interrogation tactics used by the CIA during the Bush administration were 'justified' and produced worthwhile intelligence, even if they were 'torture,' a poll released today shows.
Survey-takers discovered that a plurality of interviewees believe the brutal interrogations were justified, 49 percent, and resulted in reliable intelligence, 57 percent.
But even while giving the CIA their blessing to forcefully question suspected terrorists, nearly seven in 10 in Americans said they consider waterboarding - one of the 13 approved Bush-era techniques - to be 'torture,' a CBS News poll found.

98 Million Americans Are Expected To Travel For The Holidays
More than 98 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles this holiday season, AAA Mid-Atlantic estimates.
That marks a 4 percent increase over last year's end-of-year holiday travel — the period that spans Dec. 23 to Jan. 4 — and the highest holiday travel since 2001. This year's holiday travel period is also longer than in previous years because Christmas and New Year's Day fall on Thursday.
Consumer confidence and low gas prices are helping fuel more travel. The average gas price was $2.55 per gallon Dec. 15, the lowest level in five years and 68 cents lower than last year.

Senate Democrats approve controversial Obama pick for surgeon general
The Senate on Monday approved President Barack Obama's nomination of Dr. Vivek Murthy to serve as U.S. surgeon general, despite opposition from Republicans and some Democrats over his support for gun control.
Murthy, 37, a physician at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, won confirmation on a vote of 51-43. He's a co-founder of Doctors for America – originally called Doctors for Obama – a group that has pushed for affordable health care and supports Obama's health care law.
Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso said most of Murthy's career has been spent as an activist focused on gun control and other political issues, rather than on treating patients. 'Americans don't want a surgeon general who might use this position of trust to promote his own personal campaign against the Second Amendment of the Constitution,' Barrasso said.
Supporters said Murthy is well-qualified and noted his promise not to use the position as a bully pulpit for gun control.

Worcester County Honored For Excellence In Financial Reporting
Worcester County Government (WCG) was recently honored with an award and a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the sixth consecutive year by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The GFOA recognizes contributions to the practice of government finance that exemplify outstanding financial management, and WCG was honored with this recent recognition for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013.
“The CAFR is an extremely important document for Worcester County,” Finance Officer Phil Thompson said. “It provides both transparency and accountability, which are critical in the constantly changing economy that we operate in today. I sincerely thank each and every member of staff who worked so diligently to produce the CAFR and help the County earn this prestigious honor once again. This award is a testament to their dedication and professionalism.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition awarded to local governments in the areas of accounting and financial reporting. The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
To be awarded the Certificate of Achievement, a governmental unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized CAFR, and its contents must conform to program standards. Such reports should satisfy Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and applicable legal requirements.
WCG was a recipient for this prestigious award with Chief Administrative Officer Harold Higgins, Finance Officer Phil Thompson, Budget Officer Kathy Whited, Assistant Finance Officer Jennifer Swanton, Enterprise Fund Controller Jessica Ramsay and Budget Accountant Kim Watts accepting the certificate on behalf of the county.

'I regret to say I am a terrorist'
Wife of cafe gunman praised Bali bombings and 9/11 in online rant as row rages about why the accused murderer is free on bail
The wife of the Sydney terror siege gunman posted a series of hate-filled videos in which she described herself as a terrorist and expressed happiness at the 9/11 and 2002 Bali terror attacks and the Holocaust.
Amirah Droudis, 35, appeared in public Tuesday just hours after her partner Man Haron Monis was shot dead by police to end a 17-hour siege in which he held a score of hostages at a central Sydney cafe. Two of the captives also died.
Droudis reported to Campsie Police Station in southwestern Sydney, as required under conditions of her bail for the alleged murder of Monis' ex-wife, Noleen Hayson Pal, who was stabbed multiple times and set alight in April 2013. Monis was also charged in connection to the murder.

Indiana Woman Wants To Be Laid To Rest With Her German Shepherd. One Problem: The Dog Is Still Alive.
Connie Lay died in late November, leaving behind her dog, a German shepherd.
But the Indiana woman didn’t forget the animal in her will. According to reports, she included a couple of possible options for its future, including one plan to have the dog euthanized and laid to rest with Lay.
“She made provisions that in the event of her death, she wanted her very close friend to take charge of the dog,” Lay’s attorney, Doug Denmure, told Cincinnati’s ABC affiliate WCPO. “… She also then requested that the dog be put to sleep, cremated and that the dog’s ashes be placed with her own ashes.”

McAuliffe to push for package of new gun restrictions
RICHMOND
Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Monday will call for a package of gun restrictions, including a renewal of the state’s one-a-month limit on handgun purchases and a requirement that private vendors at gun shows perform background checks.
McAuliffe will also propose keeping guns away from people convicted of crimes related to domestic violence and revoking concealed-handgun permits for parents who are behind on child-support payments.
McAuliffe, a Democrat, will unveil his plan during a speech in Arlington the day after the two-year anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., according to a news release.
It will be hard for him to persuade the Republican-controlled General Assembly to give up any ground on Second Amendment issues, especially as some fend off challenges from the right. But the governor is betting that the mass shootings at Sandy Hook and at Virginia Tech University in 2007 make it politically toxic for Republicans in more moderate districts to oppose the measures.

A Viewer Responds To "OC Experiencing Bus Driver Shortage; Committee Reviews Change In Standards"
I have been a seasonal OC employee since about 2005 and have rode out the continued downturn in OC’s economy as it relates to employee well being. I have watched as employee benefits have gone away or have been eliminated except for those already enjoying the benefits. I will discuss mostly only a single department. Transportation.
OC transportation costs & rates have risen steadily for the past 2 years or more. For a long time though, OC has continued to give out “free ridership” to convention attendees (including Government attendees). Same goes for school graduates. While costs have risen, OC has not adjusted bus driver compensation for about 7 years. We have seen “family day” at Jolly Roger and employee appreciation days at Seacrets slowly die away. There have been no job actions threatened or anything else by the resort workforce related to this or any other. In other words, we just come back to do what is needed year after year. There has been a recent interest in pointing the big finger of fiscal blame by the Town to these (long faithful) employees WHO ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TOWN'S FISCAL WOES.
In the past, OC has enjoyed cheap labor using visiting workers on visas by not having to compensate for ANY taxes when considering an unemployed (tax paying) citizen. So far though, only a few have been considered for Transportation. The visitors have NO licenses so they can’t drive. There have been experiments (Tram cashiers/conductors) but passenger injury rates have gone up as a result. Cleaning jobs continue to accept some of them. Most recently though our attention is being directed to the Town’s inability to hire qualified Bus drivers and perhaps the need to LOWER the necessary qualifications. Their reasoning is that NOBODY WANTS THE JOB. When the foreign deluge of boardwalk workers over Americans came about, the talking points were the same. American workers are available to do the job. The Town continues trying not to use them.
I can tell you from personal experience that most of this recent publicity is pure BULL. I have educational qualifications far beyond the needs of a bus driver and certainly more life qualifications. Many of the drivers BEG for 5 days of work per week yet the Town cuts their hours (and mine) mid season to 4 or less. Cant’ find drivers? Try asking someone who is capable of recruiting from within their very own workforce. Need a driver (working only 3-4 days) to work 5, ask of the employees the town already has.
All Seasonal (not just Transportation employees) return every year to continue their dedicated service. At this time, they are advised “Don’t bother unless we invite you in writing”. Just what “standards” does OC need to change to have them come back? There doesn’t appear that they even have any standards that they are answerable to and their management skills come from the Chicken processing industry, real estate brokers, to independent home improvement contractors.
I have listened to a Transportation supervisor giving instruction (both gender) to employees over an open radio that they are taking too long to use the bathroom. I have heard them instructing drivers to ignore public scrutiny from media that was not pre-approved by management. I have seen (former veteran) drivers being instructed NOT to wear a hat that reflected their former service but to purchase an OC hat from OC instead.
The recent attack on OC's own long term seasonal workforce seem unjustified and unfair. They need to look to themselves rather than housekeeping, transportation, public safety, and many other faithful employees who have not struck “deals” in dealing with organized union employees who aren’t even asking for a union relationship. The Firemen and Police saw this coming a long time ago and they are now unionized and “protected”. The remaining silent workforce doesn’t want Unions in their lives. We simply want to be treated fairly, with respect, and have work. Ocean City, please treat us that way.

JUST IN: Maryland-native Alan Gross released from Cuba after 5 years in prison, arrives back in U.S.
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Alan Gross has called himself a "trusting fool" for going to Cuba in the first place. But family and friends described him with other words: gregarious, outgoing, and a wiz at picking up and playing any musical instrument.
Gross, 65, was freed from prison Wednesday as part of an agreement that included the release of three Cubans jailed in the United States, officials said. Gross was arrested in Cuba in 2009 while working in the Communist-run country to set up Internet access for the island's small Jewish community, access that bypassed local restrictions and monitoring.
At the time, Gross was working as a subcontractor for the U.S. government's U.S. Agency for International Development, which promotes democracy on the island. Cuba considers USAID's programs illegal attempts by the U.S. to undermine its government, and Gross was tried and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The victims of a burglary captured their alleged intruders after spotting them in the street - on the way back from another break-in.
The Wyatt family's surveillance system filmed the moment a woman and two men took two TVs and numerous Christmas presents from their home in Warrior, Alabama, last Friday.
Just two days later, Chris Wyatt spotted the suspects' Ford Ranger pickup truck driving down a road and swerved to block them into a corner.

Maryland Budget Shortfall Swells After Latest Revenue Estimates
A two-year budget shortfall facing Maryland Gov.-elect Larry Hogan (R) swelled to nearly $1.2 billion on Monday after a state panel revised its forecasts for tax collections to reflect still-sluggish growth in the state’s economy.
The Board of Revenue Estimates projected the state will collect $123 million less in revenue than previously forecast during the remainder of this fiscal year, which ends in June, and $148 million less during the following year.
The write-downs widen what were already projected gaps of nearly $300 million this year and $600 million next year in Maryland’s roughly $16 billion general fund budget.

$446,056 Gov't Study Explores Link Between Alcohol Abuse, Domestic Violence – Among Lesbians
(CNSNews.com) – The National Institutes of Health through its National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has funded a studyto uncover the correlation between alcohol abuse and lesbian “intimate partner violence.”
The grant, titled, “Minority Stress, Alcohol Use, and Intimate Partner Violence Among Lesbians,’ was awarded to Old Dominion University.
“Alcohol abuse and dependence, and the constellation of problems associated with these disorders, including intimate partner violence (IPV) are a serious health concern for sexual minority women, their partners, their families, and society as a whole,” the grant abstract said.
“Despite documentation of important health disparities, a significant gap still exists regarding why sexual minority women are more likely to experience alcohol use disorders and IPV,” it added.

Boehner to Aide-Turned-Lobbyist: 'No One Ever Really Leaves Boehnerland'
Speaker John Boehner's top aide for more than two decades, Dave Schnittger, has announced he is leaving Boehner's office and walking through Washington's revolving door to become a lobbyist at powerhouse Squire Patton Boggs--a move that will give Schnittger maximum leverage for the next two years of Boehner's speakership.
"We always say that 'no one ever really leaves Boehnerland' and I'm particularly happy that Dave--the unofficial 'Dean of Boehnerland'--isn't going too far," said Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) in a statement to Politico. Boehner credited Schnittger as being the "beating heart" of Boehner's political apparatus.
Schnittger, or "Schnit" as Beltway insiders refer to him, is Boehner's longest-serving aide.

New Evidence That US Government Intentionally Lied Us into Iraq War
Alleged Meeting Between 9/11 Hijacker and Iraqi Official Was Debunked by U.S. Intelligence Agencies Before It Was Trumpeted As War Justification … U.S. Pressured Czech Government to Lie
There is extensive evidence that the U.S. government intentionally lied us into the Iraq war.
Here’s a quick refresher:
Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind reported that the White House ordered the CIA to forge and backdate a document falsely linking Iraq with Muslim terrorists and 9/11 … and that the CIA complied with those instructions and in fact created the forgery, which was then used to justify war against Iraq. And see this
The entire torture program was geared towards obtaining false confessions linking Iraq and 9/11
Everyone knew that Iraq didn’t have weapons of mass destruction. More

Somerset County: Sewer Assessments May Soon Soar For Some
The Sanitary Commission has issued its proposed annual “benefit” assessments for 2015, and the handful of property owners who are being hit with the charge for that new relief main in Princess Anne along Route 13, already over $35 per front foot, are in for a nasty shock – next year it will be almost $100 per front foot under the Commission's plan.
What a wonderful way to attract business and residents to Somerset County!
There will be a public hearing on the proposed assessments for the so-called bypass line and those for other sewer and water projects on Thursday, December 18 in Princess Anne.

WASHINGTON – He drinks a bit. That is well-chronicled.
The tabloids have splashed headlines about torrid affairs, including one with a lobbyist.
And, of course, he cries in public.
But is there more to the personal story of House Speaker John Boehner that would explain his funding of Obamacare and the president’s executive action providing amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in his budget accommodation with Democrats?
Enter the ubiquitous Matt Drudge who tweeted Friday: “Obama got EVERYTHING. NSA dirt on Boehner must be incredible. Chicago wins.”

County Worker Falls 20 Feet Down Shaft In Pines
Shawn J. Soper, News Editor
OCEAN PINES -- A Worcester County public works employee early Wednesday morning fell about 20 feet into a water and wastewater shaft near the South Gate in Ocean Pines and had to be extricated and ultimately flown via helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with unknown injuries.
Around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday, the Ocean Pines Fire Department received an emergency call regarding a Worcester County employee falling into a 20-foot shaft at the county facility near the South Gate at the entrance to the Sherwood Forest neighborhood. Rescue crews worked for about an hour to extricate the victim, who was then flown via Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The nature of the victim’s injuries nor his condition are known at this time.
The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was the lead agency on the rescue and crews extricated the victim in about an hour. The Showell Volunteer Fire Company also assisted. With crews and equipment on the scene, the incident snarled morning rush hour traffic in a heavily traveled area near the South Gate. By around 10 a.m., the incident was cleared.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Report: Pilot In Ocean City 2013 Crash Lacked Aerobatic Training
Federal investigators say the pilot in last year's fatal plane crash in Ocean City may not have been adequately trained in the aerobatic moves he was performing.
Off-duty police officers Thomas Geohegan and Joshua Adickes were killed in the crash on June 30, 2013. Geohegan was the pilot and owner of the airplane.
The National Transportation Safety Board determined that the crash was caused by Geohegan losing situational awareness during a spin and misjudging his altitude.

The Tea Party of the Left Is Back
Elizabeth Warren was briefly right about something, for the wrong reasons.
There are a few new faces — Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is leading the new charge — and its ire is now focused on campaign-finance laws and Dodd-Frank, not the Iraq War. But the liberal wing of the Democratic party, which took a hiatus during the first few years of the Obama presidency, is back and ready to rumble.
Even the media reports of that era are back. Who can forget that in 2006, dissent was totally patriotic — but once 2009 rolled around, it suddenly became racist. And crazy.
Likewise, the 2013 partial shutdown was blamed on the GOP’s alleged inability to legislate, even though it happened because President Obama decided to violate his own health-care law by giving his big-business buddies special treatment.
This year, the mantra was that Democrats were willing to shut the government down over principle, according to Huffington Post Washington bureau chief Ryan Grim and others.

Texas legislature pushing for open carry in 2015
Long depicted as the rootin'-tootin' capital of American gun culture, Texas is one of the few states with an outright ban on the open carry of handguns.
That could change in 2015, with the Republican-dominated Legislature and Gov.-elect Greg Abbott expected to push for expanded gun rights.
'If open carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it's good enough for the state of Texas' Abbott said the day after his election last month.

Millions of Americans Can't Afford Coverage
Rocky Rush, a 37-year-old single father from Nebraska, has gone without health insurance for years due to the cost, and the Affordable Care Act hasn't changed that.
"I can go without medical coverage, but my children need it," Rush says.
Affordable health insurance for all Americans was one of the cornerstones and selling points of the ACA. And while the law has helped reduce the proportion of uninsured Americans from 20 to 15 percent, according to The Commonwealth Fund, it has left millions without coverage.
These uninsured Americans, falling into a gap created by the ACA, are too poor to receive assistance on their health insurance premiums, but make too much to qualify for Medicaid, putting them in a difficult predicament when costly medical bills come due.

Obama’s nominee to lead Social Security agency could be left dangling
Even as the Senate plows through votes on nearly two-dozen Obama nominees, at least one controversial pick could be left dangling amid objections from Republicans over an ongoing investigation into a troubled computer project.
Over the weekend, Senate Democrats canceled a procedural vote on Carolyn Colvin's nomination to lead the Social Security Administration. The move could easily push off consideration of Colvin until next year -- when Republicans control the Senate.
The delay comes after Republicans urged the Senate to wait until the investigation at her agency is resolved.
"It may very well turn out that Ms. Colvin did nothing wrong -- but we need to know for sure," Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said last week.

Why Is There So Little Interior Immigration Enforcement?
Why is there so little enforcement of the immigration laws, except right at the southern border?
The basic reason, of course, is that except for intercepting those entering without inspection (EWIs), the administration is not very interested in the subject.
It does not want to do much in the interior, beyond deporting the most obvious of the criminals among the illegal aliens, and is not even very enthusiastic about that activity.
Within this context, however, there are other barriers to enforcement, problems that persist no matter what the mood of the party in power. With that in mind, I have devised a taxonomy of immigration fraud showing the numerous ways that the immigration law can be broken, and some of the built-in difficulties in responding.
The first thing to notice is the incredibly long list of ways that people try to beat the immigration law, considerably condensed in the table below. Aliens, employers, and middlemen of various kinds have devised a plethora of ways to try to violate the law, and some of them are harder to handle than others.
In some cases, the crime is hard to identify; in others, the violators have large lobbies rooting for them; and some violations have no political support. Further, some of these techniques are much more common than others.
We have identified three major sets of enforcement challenges. There are those in which the violator is operating pretty much alone, such as the case of the individual EWI, and the single employer of EWIs and other illegal aliens.

Gov. Mike Pence: National Government Is Not The Nation
If success at the state level were enough to recommend someone for president of the United States, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana would be among the frontrunners for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
According to the governor’s office, Pence has “signed into law $643 million in annual tax relief: That includes: $313 million for hardworking Hoosiers, thanks to last year’s 5 percent income tax reduction, the largest state tax cut in Indiana history.” In addition, the state corporate tax rate was reduced from 6.5 percent to 4.9 percent, making it the third lowest in the country and contributing to Indiana’s increase in the labor force, which, Pence’s office says, has grown by more than 51,000 over the past year, five times the national growth rate.
A former Democrat (like his ideological mentor Ronald Reagan), Pence sees a need to transform his party’s image: “The Republican Party has become just the other party to Washington solutions. We have to get back to advancing state-based solutions and reforms. We must be relentlessly optimistic.” He paraphrases a Reagan line: “‘Why shouldn’t we dream great dreams, after all we’re Americans.’

City Allows Mosque After 1st Rejecting It
The Kennesaw, Georgia City Council has approved a land-use permit for a new mosque less than two weeks after it had denied the permit citing traffic and parking concerns.
The council voted 4-1 to deny the permit on Dec. 3, but after legal threats from the Suffa Dawat Center, the council reversed its earlier decision with a 5-0 vote Monday. The vote was taken without discussion as six police officers lined the walls of the council chambers and another contingent of officers patrolled outside where about 25 protesters from Overpasses for America and the Georgia Security Force militia held American flags and signs saying “No Mosque!” and “Ban Islam!”
Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews told WSB-TV in Atlanta that the council changed its vote due to “legal advice from our own city attorney, not based on input received from the public or anybody else.”

Why Hillary Is Not Inevitable: Bill’s Sordid Past
The key thing about conventional political wisdom is that it is usually wrong. This idea that the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton is “inevitable” is wide of the mark. In fact her survival to the finish line is dubious. The Clintonistas and their dupes in the establishment media may not want to open the magnum of champagne just yet.
Neither the voters nor some in the media want or need a contest. But coronations are not American, and they don’t sell newspapers or generate Web traffic.
Clinton faces multiple challenges and vulnerabilities, and predictions of her coronation are indeed premature. So daunting are her challenges, I’m shocked she appears to be running. Clearly taking a paid speech in the late spring means she intends to milk it and perhaps get in later.

Largest family detention center for immigrants opens in Texas
(Reuters) - Saying our borders are "not open to illegal migration," Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Monday opened in Dilley, Texas, what is billed as the largest U.S. family detention center to hold those caught entering the country illegally.
Johnson also used the occasion to criticize congressional Republicans he said failed to fully fund his department in the budget bill approved this past weekend.
"If Congress is interested with me in supporting the border security measure we are outlining here today, it should act immediately on our budget request for fiscal 2015," Johnson said.
The budget legislation funds most government agencies through September 2015. The Department of Homeland Security will be treated differently, getting a funding extension only through Feb. 27, by which time Republicans will control both chambers of Congress.

Bill Cosby tried to kiss me, Kathie Lee Gifford reveals
Kathie Lee Gifford has been a staunch defender of Bill Cosby's character for weeks — but the "Today" show co-host revealed Tuesday that the scandal-plagued comic did try to kiss her once in the late '70s.
At the time of the incident, Gifford and her backup singers opened for Cosby on a comedy tour. She has been quick to stress that Cosby showed her and her backup singers "great kindness and generosity" over the two years they performed together..
On Tuesday's "Today" show broadcast, however, Gifford revealed a major "disclaimer."

Is This Crazy, Or Is It Just Me?
Sin war not escalating
Admittedly, it was just a snippet of the first words of the initial line of a news report, but I have been known to jump to conclusions before without good results.
But when those opening comments mentioned that prostitution services were being offered up in Delaware, my first thought was, “Holy cow! They beat us to the punch again!”
Was it not bad enough that they started before we here in Maryland did with slot machine gambling? Had our gaming fortune forecast not been hit by that state’s leap ahead to table games? And now, it appeared, as the sin wars between these two states heats up, it appears they beat us to prostitution, which may or may not be considered a table game, depending.
I did, eventually, settle down to hear the full report on the matter and learned that it concerned an arrest for prostitution, thereby reconfirming the its continuing illegality up north.
I was relieved, because, and despite every effort not to jump to a second conclusion, I could almost hear in my mind some Maryland legislator arguing strenuously that our horse racing industry still needed propping up financially and that the only answer would be to institute parlor games of a different sort altogether.
