ReplyDeleteIt could be because he has all his teeth, can read from a teleprompter, graduated the 12th grade or more and is not married to a close relative.
He could have some health issues. Look at his left eye almost closed sometimes. He might be having problems pronouncing his words probably?
ReplyDeleteIt could be because he is an intelligent human being, is good at what he does and is a God fearing Christian. Also you might want to check into the word ax. You will find that it is correct English usage that may in fact pre-date the word ask. But why let facts interfere with our prejudices.

1. The sports idio... sorry, sports guy - on MDT that gives over 4 minutes on high school volleyball, field hockey, etc., in games that even the STUDENTS don't attend. Not even parents! Why in the world would he think that ANYONE else would be interested in these games.
2. The airhead (but really cute) news reader-babe on BOC: Please - PLEASE lose the trendy "vocal fry" during your inane ad-libs with Jiminy Cricket or Lily Pad or Jimmy Hoppa (whatever his radio name is/was). It's annoying. Really annoying. You are not a Kardashian. Be a freakin' pro if you ever want to get out of this market!
3. Lose the "Internet Segment". It is stupid beyond stupid. Obviously nothing more than a time killer. We can read. OK?
11:55 p.m. -- In response to your point #1, I think that if nobody attends these games, not even their parents, then that is sad. I am GLAD he runs a segment so it can at least let these student athletes know that someone does care enough to acknowledge them, even if it is a sports reporter that they don't even know. :-(

ReplyDelete9:21 AM -- The point that the writer was trying to make is questioning whether there is ANY interest at all for the general viewing public on these types of non-tournament games. Again, if the students don't care to come out, then what's the point? It is a monumental waste of airtime, especially when pro baseball and football bleed over each other's seasons.
ReplyDeleteJust last week, he did over a minute on one high school volleyball game. There were more players on the bench than spectators in the stands.
As for "acknowledgement": I played organized sports - primarily football and baseball - as a kid. We all played it for The Game - certainly NOT for any type of acknowledgement. Today's generation needs that, I guess. It's the "everyone gets a trophy" thing. Sad.
(Yes, I'm old. Just geezin', I guess.)
There's any number of Delmarvans that pronounce it that way. Same for "Candem Ave." in Salisbury, give the guy a break!
ReplyDeleteButler has been stumbling and mis-pronouncing words for years. Not just recently. He's obviously not in touch with what he's supposed to be talking about. And, this is at least his third time at the station. I fail to understand why someone so inept is kept on the air. Guess he works for cheap.
