See the Measly Tip an NFL Star Allegedly Left on His $61.56 Bill

Is it ever OK to stiff a waiter or waitress who gives you bad service, bad food or both?

If you do decide to leave a very small tip or no tip at all, is it alright for the restaurant to publicly shame you for doing so?

Just a day after his team won their home opener in impressive fashion, Philadelphia Eagles All Pro running back LeSean McCoy and three friends reportedly visited a hamburger restaurant called PYT.

Apparently, the diners were not pleased with the service and/or the food. According to thePhiladelphia Daily News, Rob Knelly, the man who waited on McCoy’s table expected the bad tip. Knelly told the Daily News that the party was rude and loud, commenting on the food by saying, “What is this s**t?”

  1. I put zero and leave cash tips or no tip. Prove I didn't leave one....
In the future that should be his strategy.

  2. Maybe he's bad at math and thought that was 20 percent.

  3. I guess he didn't receive decent service. Oh well.

The restaurant did the wrong thing to post the receipt. They've already apologized for doing so. Too late.... now they will lose future customers. That worked out well.

  4. Bad food, bad service, bad tip. Nothing wrong with that. A tip is earned, not a given no matter how much a person makes. Work hard and you get a good tip.

  5. The restaurant needs to publicly apologize. If the service was bad as stated, the tip was well deserved! Maybe the restaurant needs to be sued for this and the server should be fired.

  6. Any restaurant posting these receipts need to burn down, or close up shop. Waiters/ress' are bigger whiners than the christian terrorist on here.

  7. Social media has simply amplified the lack of common sense and the entitlement attitude.

Who ever posted this, never thought past their anger over a lousy tip.

The customer will suffer as well as the restaurant. If the server is outed, good luck finding a job. Can the restaurant sue the server for doing this? Can the player sue the restaurant and / or the server?

Is this what our lives have turned into? Trying to publicly humiliate people over petty meaningless incidences? Is this now how we gain power in our overwhelming meaningless lives?

And when did crap like this actually turn into news? Who the heck cares.... really... I truly do not care.

  8. The server is an idiot not to realize that he has the players signature and could sell it on ebay, and that may surpass any petty tip he would have received if he was capable of doing his job and earning one.

  9. Don't really agree with comments on here so far. The customer was served then states, "what is this s**t?" If they didn't like what they saw before them, there are better ways to express that fact than what they did, then I guess they ate what they called "s**t, and when they got the check, they again expressed their disappointment by leaving a .20 cent tip. They should be outted, are people supposed to bow down to them because they are NFL players, I think not. They are not bigger than life, even though they think they are, i.e. what just happened to a Raven's player. I hope he never plays football again, ever. And if these guys don't like what they ate, where they are it, don't go there again, but it's not the waiters fault, he was not the cook.

    1. @ 8:16am They're vulgarity and the misdirected dissatisfaction over the meal is a clear indicator of the caliber of person, as is those who find their choice of words acceptable herein. Tips are about the server, not the cook. If you don't like the appearance or taste of the food, go see the cook, he or she's the responsible party. Spoiled crybabies in my opinion. Another big mouth attempting to show off in front of friends. Responsible, intelligent people just wouldn't go back, not mouth off.

  10. You all are morons. Servers don't cook the food. They don't make the menu, set the prices or anything of the like. They simply make sure your beverages are full, are responsible for entering your order correctly, and delivering it to your table (with a pleasant and cheerful attitude, of course). If something was wrong with your food, speak with a manager. IT'S NOT THE SERVERS FAULT. Please still tip, as they still did their job, whether you like the food or not. Servers do not get paychecks after taxes. Bunch of idiots on here who clearly have never worked in the industry.

  11. Get a life, people. The NFL has 0 bearing to what is going on around you. Stop wasting your time, passion, energy, and money on it. At best, it's a useless distraction. At it's worst, it rots our culture and feeds us constant propaganda from the federal government (ever wonder what the NFL gives the Feds for non profit status?).

Use those resources to create positive change in the community. Could you imagine how much we could do if everybody volunteered just one week's worth of NFL Football obsession (8-12h Sunday, 3h Monday, 3h Thursday, fantasy football league work, blog/online reading, Sports Center, etc) to a worthy cause? We're talking tens of thousands of people giving up to 20h of their time. And then there's the money spent drinking at bars, buying $100 jerseys, tickets costing hundreds stacked with $8 beers and $20 to park, etc. Imagine that money going to create homeless programs, tutoring opportunities for kids, or a ministry to provide healthcare or turn a desperate person's life around. That's a huge impact!

"If something was wrong with your food, speak with a manager. IT'S NOT THE SERVERS FAULT."

YES IT MOST OF THE TIME IS MORON STUPID IDIOT THAT HAS NO ***COMMON SENSE**** TO SPEAK OF!

    1. They can put in the order wrong.
    2. They can bring you out the completely wrong food.
    3. They can forget to bring you an item, which even if another server runs the food, condiments for example can be brought out ahead of time to avoid them being forgotten or ignored.
    4. They can bring an obviously prepared wrong item such as the customer ordered no bbq sauce on their ribs, you bring it out, it's got bbq sauce on it like DUH, an obvious error *YOU* should have caught and not SERVED to the customer like that.
    5. They can drop your food(VERY RARE, but I still had to put that one in).
    6. They can also misunderstand you as well so when they bring it out thinking they put the order in correctly, they didn't. I have had that happen before because servers assume you don't read the menu descriptions. You still have to go by the menu AND what the customer said, not just what the customer has told you when taking an order.

So yeah, 9 times out of 10, servers are MOST of the time at fault for errors with your food. You are DUMB and have NO COMMON SENSE to speak of!

Taste, if as long as my server put in my order right and brought it out obviously appearing correct I will agree, but NOT the appearance I won't agree, because if it's something BURNT ON TOP that you can clearly *SEE* the BLACK and the customer didn't order it burnt, then HOW can you live with yourself serving that to another human being??? Think about that..... If *YOU* wouldn't eat it, WHY would they? Act like we are PEOPLE TOO with feelings.

    "Servers don't cook the food."

One place I know they have and do, WAFFLE HOUSE at times DO make the server cook.

You are right, most of the time(99.9% of the time) servers don't cook your food, but they have a SET OF EYES though that can see what they are serving you if it's the food you ordered, obviously correct looking by verifying their written order with the food for obvious errors, and are responsible for putting in the order correctly. Also, they can notice if there is something missing prior to delivering your food as well.

"They don't make the menu, set the prices or anything of the like."

No, but you are still responsible for serving and charging according to what the *MENU* has. The wrong prices when my server gives me my check are THEIR responsibility to have a manager fix it PRIOR to giving me my check. It's not the customer's job to check each price making sure they aren't being overcharged according to the menu prices. My husband and I have had our fair share of wrong price overcharges during the years. My server can CLEARLY READ NUMBERS on a piece of paper PRIOR to delivering the check, which means it's their fault for not getting it corrected BEFORE they handed it to us. If my server doesn't care about my money, WHY should I care about theirs? It's that simple...

NO, you clearly don't have any common sense and don't want to admit the GOD'S HONEST TRUTH. WHY IS THAT, HUH???

  18. Oh Springs1, bless your heart. There is a job called the EXPO, who's duty it is to read the ticket and ensure the food goes out correctly. While servers are busy with their six other tables, they aren't always in the kitchen to catch errors like you mentioned, but it is why I try and be in the back when my food is coming out, because - like you point out - the server is always blamed! Even if they do everything correctly on their end. Hopefully you don't go out to eat with that mentality, since everyone in the industry are just stupid morons to you. God bless, and please project the rage you so obviously have inside you at something meaningful, rather than some ribs with bbq sauce on them. LOL

"Oh Springs1, bless your heart. There is a job called the EXPO, who's duty it is to read the ticket and ensure the food goes out correctly."

The job of the expo is not to "SERVE" the food correctly, is it? SO WHY even MENTION the expo when the expo is not in my service, huh?

"because - like you point out - the server is always blamed! Even if they do everything correctly on their end."

Not everything, but if another server runs the food let's say has the wrong side dish on the plate and let's say you were my server that put in my order correctly, while it's not "your" fault, it will go against the tip since that person is **********A HUGE PART OF MY SERVICE********** and the fact that you shouldn't get as much money anyways if you didn't do that part of the work anyways. Look at it like that too. Some servers will say "unfair", but it is fair when you couldn't be there(even though you wanted to be) and SOMEONE ELSE had to do the job for you, so why should *YOU* get paid for what this other person provided us? That person should have a tip line for a part of the tip rather than either tipping from sales or just other servers running each other's food that they don't get part of the tip at all. THAT is unfair. They are doing the work, they should get part of the tip, PERIOD!

"have inside you at something meaningful"

This is VERY meaningful since it's a HUGE part of my every weekend life since late 2000. My husband and I have been going out to eat almost every single weekend sometimes 2-3 times a weekend, some holidays, and vacations since then. So we have had our fair share of good and bad service throughout the years. So it affects my life VERY MUCH SO if they got my ribs wrong because 2 servers for example didn't know the menu well enough to realize that when I ordered 2 sides of bbq sauce(even one time I said extra), they delivered my ribs DRY thinking I wanted the ribs with bbq sauce "ON THE SIDE" when I NEVER ONCE said that. Asking for sides of bbq sauce doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the menu description already in writing already, but for some WEIRD REASON they ASSUMED rather either gone by the menu and what I said or asked me.

So yeah, that example is pretty darn important to my life and DOES affect my life A LOT when things happen like that. I don't order ribs that often since they are pretty bad for you, but I do have problems with other items that I order just like that.

Also, the expo has NOTHING to do with my server forgetting condiments for example no matter WHO runs the food. My server can bring out my condiments out *AHEAD OF TIME*, no matter what.
