Teacher on Unions: ‘Felt Like Little Children Being Bullied on a Playground’

(CNSNews.com) – Teachers who left labor unions connected with their jobs said on Tuesday that they felt “bullied” for their opposition to compulsory membership and payment of dues that funded political activities.

“We literally felt like little children being bullied on a playground,” Rebecca Friedrichs, a teacher and former member of the California Teachers Association, said at the event at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Friedrichs, who is also the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against the CTA challenging its authority, was one of a panel of two educators and a child care provider that spoke about their experiences with labor unions and their efforts to help others who want to end their union membership.

  1. Same issue in Wicomico county. The union is full of nasty thugs that are willing to do anything to get what they want. They broke into the local association office and compromised a lot of personnel records and even erased meeting minutes so no one would be able to tell what happened at past meetings. And they are going to push for the fair share act which forces everyone in the county to pay union dues.

  2. That is not what happened. They followed the procedures of the WCEA by-laws (which the president at the time had treated as mere guidelines, to be ignored at her discretion).

More than 50% of the county's teachers signed petitions stating they wanted her removed from office and naming a group to serve as temporary administrators until the election could be held.

Following established MD law, the group named in the petition took possession of the office after serving the president notice she was being removed by membership.

Even in the TRO that granted the displaced president the use of the office, the judge stated the group had followed MD law to the letter.

No records were destroyed by that group, no files were deleted, no personnel records were compromised.

No meeting minutes were destroyed, because in many cases, the former president simply didn't keep minutes of meetings, or the minutes kept were almost fictional in their description of meetings.

So, try again on your revisionist history.

  3. You are a union pawn and an idiot. And a liar.

  4. If they followed all the rules, why would a judge make them return everything they had done?

  6. Good thing the judge was a member of the union!
