Larry Hogan to discuss economic issues on Boardwalk with Ocean City business owners and civic leaders - Friday, August 15, 2014 - 9:30AM
ANNAPOLIS, MD — August 14, 2014 — Larry Hogan will tour the Boardwalk with members of the Ocean City business community on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Boardwalk Arch on N. Division Street. The event will highlight local economic issues. Local business owners and organizations including the Ocean City Downtown Association, Boardwalk Association, Ocean City Development Corporation and the OC Chamber of Commerce are expected to participate.
Larry Hogan said, "This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of issues affecting Ocean City, as well as local economies across the state. As governor, I’ll partner with local governments and organizations to build a more supportive climate for small businesses throughout the state."
Recently proposed regulations on arcade games that have sent a ripple through the Ocean City business community threaten a number of iconic businesses on the popular Boardwalk.
Worcester County has been hit particularly hard by the state's poor economy over the last eight years. Even in the peak of summer, the county's unemployment rate is far higher than the state average, and in the off-season has soared above 15 percent. The county's average unemployment is the highest in the state, around 11 percent. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
