NFL to Democrats: Thanks For The Letter, But The Redskins Are Keeping Their Name

But will they stand firm if the left turns up the heat?

It's encouraging as far as it goes that the NFL did not immediately wilt under pressure from Democrat senators to change the name of the Redskins. They could have pulled an Adam Silver and immediately leapt in reverence of their politically correct masters, and they didn't do that. One cheer, I guess, for the NFL:

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has opposed the name change, and his team has launched its own public relations campaign issuing comments by Native Americans that continue to support the name.

The NFL has stood behind Snyder and issued its own response Thursday to the news of the senators' letter.

"We have not received the letter, but the NFL has long demonstrated a commitment to progressive leadership on issues of diversity and inclusion, both on and off the field," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement. "The intent of the team's name has always been to present a strong, positive and respectful image. The team name is not used by the team or the NFL in any other context, though we respect those that view it differently."

  2. I think they should definitely change their names.

It's a disgrace to football to have "Washington" in their name (and that says a LOT).

  3. Way to go Redskins!

  5. The NFL has turned into a propaganda machine for the feds, in return for their non-profit status that protects them from paying taxes. How many ads do you see promoting the military and Obamacare? That's your tax dollars dumping money into the NFL and network coffers.

If the Feds really want the skins to change their name, they will.

  7. As a long term Redskins fan, I view this as just another reason to dislike liberals.
As if I needed another reason.

  8. 1:30 we can agree with them, but you have to know your limits.... Friends don't let friends become skins fans

  9. Don't these idiots have more important things that need to be addressed? Bring back the good old days, as it seems that nothing is politically correct anymore. Leave the name the hell alone!

  10. Good for you Daniel Snyder. I'm sick of hearing about this crap. Stop trying to stick your nose in something that doesn't concern you. Those Senators are just trying to redirect everyone for the crap they have and haven't done. He's keeping the name Redskins so everyone needs to get over it and move on.

  11. 1:55 You spelled Ravens and/or Cowboys wrong. No biggie, google translate does that sometimes.

  13. 2:02 Couldn't agree more! They were elected to run the affairs of the country, leave this issue (or non-issue) alone. Go about the business of RUNNING THE FREAKING COUNTRY!

Might as well since the Ravens accept homosexual marriage.

  18. Soooo.... How's that budget thing coming along?

  19. And the NFL got pressured into putting a queer on a team.

  20. As in the Donald Sterling drama and the "disappearing" triple seven, this is just another distraction to keep the subjects entertained while the masters burn the country to the ground.

  21. Guess none of the outraged senators will be buying tickets, or scrounging for tickets, or wanting parking spots. Or their staff.

Gonna be fun to see them mocked when the inevitable pics go public!

  22. But will the fans who are entering the stadiums be willing to run the gauntlet of protesters? What is it now,18 season games? If this thing heats up as I suspect it will, law enforcement wherever the Redskins are playing will be overwhelmed and will eventually get sick of it.Hopefully they will keep the name, but this season will tell the tale.

  23. 8:03 There will be 15 "protesters", and they will be too drunk to harm anyone. It's typical.

  24. I'm so pleased with this decision.
However , I will say that looking into the future , with the facts that most teams are made up with African Americans , the race card WILL be played many times.

  25. Keep the name .and tell them people to go P up a rope

  26. It's well past time the name was changed.

    I suggest the Washington Tyranny

  27. to the troll who said "friends don't let friends become Redskin Fans"...

the problem with your ilk is you routinely make your friends standing on a street corner or Rest Area at three AM waiting for one to pull up in a car to get to go for a ride and get to know you"..

  28. Hey, 'Skin's fans: Walk into any bar on any Navajo Nation reservation in Arizona, and yell-out "Hey ya'll Redskins, the next round is on me!"
If they don't kick your a** after they finish the free drink, then it's OK to use the name.

  29. 5:10 funny you mention a bar lol. Why associate Native Americans with a bar. Why not say a street corner. You are a closet racist yourself. As a Mohawk I really have no problem with the name. I guess I have thick skin. I dont remeber any one complaining when they were winning lol. Funny I am a Cowboys fan. Oh well.

I also like the Atlants Braves. This country has become so crazy lately.

I also like to eat at Cracker Barrel lol White man not angry ??

  30. Well said, 12:28.
As a proud Mohawk with, as you say, "a thick skin", I applaud the fact that you see through the implied ridicule of your forefathers and your race.
There is certainly no reason to feel sensitive about your heritage when "Chief Noc-A-Homa" does a War Dance after a home run; when thousands of people do the "Indian Chop" with a Tomahawk to rally the team; when "Injun Joe" hands out beads at a AAA baseball game.
This isn't degrading at all to proud Native Americans. Proud Indians. Proud Redskins!
Be proud of your race. The White people that do this are really just kidding - just having a little fun. Don't take it personally.
