Wicomico County Council Votes Against Moving the Election Headquarters to the Adkins Facility - Cites Safety Concerns

The Wicomico County Council rejected moving the election headquarters from its current location on Bateman Street to the Adkins facility.  In a vote 6-1 - the Council cited safety concerns, and, public perception as the main reasons for rejecting the Adkins Building location and Lease arrangement.

The lone dissenter was Councilman Matt Holloway - although Councilman John Hall gave a lengthy colloquy trying to justify the Lease - then realized that it was a moot point as he was outnumbered.  He then went on record as voting No to the proposal.

  1. How about paying the city the 10 million the county owes so the city can better police that area?

  2. John Hall is unbelievable. Have some clout and stand up for what you think is right, instead of realizing you're outnumbered and voting no anyway!

  3. What the heck is wrong with Matt Hollaway? What was his dog in this fight? It doesn't appear it was for re-election purposes because he lost all the votes from us in the room. We the people spoke and finally were heard. Thanks council.

  5. Hall is a joke as a councilman. He was given the seat and the dems knew they had a RINO so they didn't put anyone up against him. Sad but we have 4 more years with the pickled brain. We have to make sure we elect others that will represent the people and kick Pollitt to the curb. He has feasted from the trough long enough.

  8. Matt Holloway rents the Homestead Farm from the Adkins Corp. This is the Corp. that Bill Turner controls. This is high dollar farm land and there are a lot of other farmers in the area that would love to rent it. Matt Holloway was looking out for himself he should have excused himself from the vote or at the very least disclosed this to the public.

  9. I saw it -- RINO John Hall is a babbling buffoon and pal of Pollitt.

  10. Matt Holloway has business dealing with Adkins -- the Homestead Farm -- and a huge conflict of interest.

  11. 11:49 Since when has "conflict of interest" stopped any politician? Mitchell, Day, Pollitt... the list goes on and on. It doesn't matter to these algae.

  12. The ethic board should be aware of this and investigate.

  13. I live in that neighborhood and have never had a problem. Thanks Council and Election Board for giving in to "perception" and lowering our property values. And it is NOT a red light district. It is simply the name of a store that is also found in other cities.

  14. To 12:24 - What Kool-Aid have you been drinking. I remember when Refrigeration products had a business just to the rear of Adkins property line just on the other side of the RR tracks. I went-in to retrieve some parts and a beer bottle was tossed over the building's roof and broke right in front of the entry way door almost striking me. There is a reason they have razor wire, and that is because that neighborhood has been ravaged by hoodlums. Slit tires, fires, drugs, you name it happening right there. If you know what's good for you - stay-a-way.

  15. 2:32 When people stay away from a neighborhood it is giving in and letting them win. The more people use a neighborhood the safer it becomes.

  16. Unbelievable that John Hall and Matt Holloway actually wanted to do that lease. In one case there appears to be an impropriety and conflict of interest. What about the other RINO?

  17. 2:42, more bullets fly on Baker Skreet every year than in the Pocomoke Forest on opening day! And that's a block away!

  18. I remember when a black guy was evicted on RR Avenue right behind the building that was to house the election board. A few weeks went by - and I have a suspicion that he returned and burned the house down because they placed his furniture out on the street. They couldn't prove it was him - but I'm quite sure it was.

  20. 7:16 - you're wrong, this is dead.

  21. 9:22 AM John Hall did the same exact thing when it came to a vote on the next council pay and he then voted no. It really made him look stupid. Well... more stupid.

  22. In this upcoming County Election you should vote all Republicans.

    County Executive - Bob Culver
    County Council
    At Large - John Cannon
    At Large - Matt Holloway
    District 1 - None
    District 2 - Marc Kilmer
    District 3 - Larry Dodd
    District 4 - None
    District 5 - Joe Holloway

They may not be perfect, but they are the best choices to save this County.
