Suspect in custody after reports of multiple stabbings at Pennsylvania high school

DEVELOPING: Up to six people were stabbed at a high school near Pittsburgh and one person is in custody early Wednesday, emergency officials say.

Dan Stevens, spokesman for Westmoreland County emergency management, said the suspect is in custody at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, roughly 15 miles east of Pittsburgh.

"A critical incident has occurred at the high school," a message on the school district's website reads. "All elementary schools are cancelled, the middle school and high school students are secure. Additional information will be released as soon as possible. Please keep our campus clear of traffic."

It's unclear if the suspect and the victims are students, adults, or a mix of both. Stevens said it doesn't appear any of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

  1. I wonder if they will call for "knife control?"

  2. We need to immediately enact some very strict knife control measures! All knives with a blade of over 1 inch should be confiscated. If any knife is sharp enough to cut a tomato without squishing it, it should be confiscated. All tactical and so called "hunting" knives should be outlawed. Furthermore, if you show valid justification of a need to possess a knife of 1 inch or less, you should undergo a mental evaluation. The danger that these knives pose must be eliminated. I know of no provision in the constitution that guarantees the right to bear knives. Contact your elected officials immediately!

  7. I believe many schools already have "knife control" and everyone gets all up in arms when a kid gets suspended for having a knife that "accidentally" forgot in their backpack, car etc. No weapons of any sort should be allowed in schools.

  9. 11:44 Exactly, they should take the knives out of the cafeteria and any sharp tools in the shop class should be remove too. Also, any baseball bats, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks and javelins/pole vaulting poles should be removed too. In addition, no students should ever be allowed to drive a vehicle that could be used to harm another person within 1000' of a school. In fact, let's require all students to be strip searched prior to entering school and then dressed only in bubble wrap. Children is Salisbury have a higher risk of being injured by a criminal feeing the police or by a LEO that feels the child is acting in a threatening manor.
