Dear Joe
I live in Delmar Md just 2 miles from the Md State Police but am currently vacationing IN South Carolina. It is unnerving to have received a call at 9pm from verizon wireless fraud dept, They called to verify we had placed an order for a phone or pad upgrade to our wireless account,,,,,we HAD NOT,,, Verizon told us. they think someone has observed we are away on vacation and are trying to scam us.... at first we were skeptical but we also got an email from Verizon Fraud Dept at the same time and were transferred to the fraud dept at same number as our caller so we knew the call was legit,, .....someone is watching our neighborhood,!!
Verizon told us this scam operates this way, they decide a house is currently empty so they take the address enter in reverse directory then they place an order for a phone or ipad upgrade they order the product and set up delivery without signature required and then wait for the item to be delivered and casually walk to the door pick up the package and walk away for us to discover on our next bill THANK YOU VERIZON WIRELESS FOR BEING ON TOP OF THINGS
I have read in the media recently that crooks cruise neigborhoods actually stealing the copper off the hvac and propane systems ,,,, well someone has been watching our house and we have a house sitter! So we will have a security system installed when we get home
The crooks gave themself away when Verizon asked security questions, the caller hung up on the operator ,,they tried twice thats when the fraud dept called us,, so they stopped the order,,,,, thats great BUT N0W WE KNOW 0ur neighborhood is being watched! I am sending this to our neighbors and asking them to forward or call other neighbors to be viligant,,,,,what if the car and rv were sold or being serviced and we were home and unaware of being observed! What then,,,well I have gotten pretty good with my 38 but really would like to try the taser out and watch the sparks fly SO SUCKER FIND A NEW PLACE TO WATCH DELMAR IS BEING WARNED....OH DID I MENTION BOTH THE GUN AND THE TASER HAVE A RED LASER LITE ,,,,SO GUESS WHERE IT IS GOING TO BE AIMED,,,,BELIEVE ME I WON['T MISS!
Wow, congrats now you have let them know you have a handgun so they need to be prepared when they enter your house.
ReplyDeletePlease provide your address so they can govto your place instead
DeleteIt's been years but a friend of mine in West OC had a similar incident but with a credit card. Someone called pretending to be her, saying they had lost a credit card and were ordering a replacement. The idea was to steal the new card out of the mailbox when it arrived.
ReplyDelete9:06 It's a .38, so that doesn't really count. And, it has a red laser. Wow. Such operator. Much wow. Get a real gun, OP. And remove that "laser". They're worthless on a handgun.
ReplyDeleteIt's the world we live in. Don't act so shocked that it happened to YOU. It happens every day now. Thank goodness credit card companies, Verizon, etc are checking on these things. Our credit card company called us once to see if we were buying TV sets in Paris, Texas. We said no, we are still in Maryland. They immediately canceled the card and issued a new one. They are actually getting pretty good at it. My best friend just had his credit card denied. When he called to see why.... someone was trying to use his card number in Montana. They were in the process of calling him as he called them. Be thankful that they keep getting better.
ReplyDeleteThere's a missing piece here. How do the thieves place the order? You need a password to get into a Verizon account.
ReplyDeleteNot the brightest bulb in the box if they are targeting Delmar….The thieves with ambition are watching Nutters Crossing and Dear Harbor. Don't even comment about Dear v. Deer Harbor, I'm just quoting the WBI press release.
ReplyDeletenow the cops with raid your house and shoot you and your dog looking for your gun
