(SALISBURY, MD) – As the search continues for the fugitive, police have obtained an additional warrant charging the suspect in connection with the assault on police in Wicomico County last night that occurred while he was fleeing an attempted arrest.
The suspect is identified as Edwin Fletcher, 31, whose last known address was in Salisbury, Md. Early today, police obtained an arrest warrant for Fletcher, charging him with multiple counts of first degree attempted murder, second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, second degree assault and related charges. This warrant is in addition to the felony drug warrant police were attempting to serve on him last night when the assaults occurred.
Further investigation has determined there were two Maryland state troopers and a Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office deputy in the car that was rammed and run over by Fletcher, who was driving a rented Dodge Ram pickup truck. All three police officers were injured. They were treated for their injuries at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and released early today. They are on leave while recovering from their injuries.
The investigation indicates three police officers fired their pistols at the suspect after the lives of the officers in the car were threatened by the actions of Fletcher. They include a state trooper assigned to the State Police Gang Enforcement Unit, a deputy assigned to the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force, and a Salisbury Police Department officer assigned to the Gang Enforcement Unit. There is no indication Fletcher or the unidentified person with him was struck by police gunfire.
The injured officers and the officers who fired their weapons will be not identified. Each of the officers works undercover. Releasing their identities will jeopardize their personal safety.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigation into the police involved shooting is continuing. Upon completion, it will be submitted to the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
Are there any pictures of the car they were in? It must have a lot of damage!
ReplyDeleteI hope he officers had AFLAC.
ReplyDelete100 cops and a helicopter and 1 thug gets away unreal and embarrasing.
ReplyDeleteSay the Monday morning QB who's never been in that kind of situation.
DeleteYou know what they say…If you can't Dodge it, then Ram it!
ReplyDeleteWhat i question is how did this get started. was this a drug buy gone bad.. a sting.. or what. If it was known who he was going into this.. they should have known that he was not going to give up without a heavy fight due to his priors. I wish this violence would stop. I hate to see anyone injured at work. They have families with children and responsibilities like anyone else. So sad. I was in a store today and hear people saying he jumped into the river and swam across to escape. There are some wild rumors out there. Why did this go down to begin with?
ReplyDeleteI heard he had a speed boat and was last seen heading up river. DNR is now involved.
ReplyDelete@5:02
ReplyDeleteLooks like he has ditched the speedboat is making his getaway via a Hot Air Balloon. The Air Force has been called in to assist.
@5:02 Balloon has been found abandoned near Pittsville. Suspect is now believed to be on a green Kawasaki dirt bike headed for the Delaware border.
ReplyDeleteThe Air Force was unable to assist since that balloon when higher than the blackbirds ceiling height. The guy had a space suit in the gondola and NASA has tracked him at the edge of the mesosphere. If he can drift over Russia, he will parachute to the ground where he will be given asylum by Vlad the Conqueror.
ReplyDeleteThe hot air balloon landed in Canada. He's now on a dog sled heading to Alaska. Folks, there are politics involved in this one or he would have been caught by now. I heard he was waiting to see the mayor.
ReplyDeleteI just really don't understand how he got away... With multiple police and a helicopter...earlier reports said that his vehicle was found a short time later on Camden which obviously is not that far from where things began so nobody bothered to chase him after he ran over the cop car? Completely baffling.
ReplyDeleteBoy is enterprise gonna be pissed, shooting up that truck?
ReplyDeleteWhat's the bounty on his head? His own crack buds would take him out dead or alive for the right price.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he got the insurance option, otherwise he will owe Enterprise a plenty.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is, he had a friend to ditch in with in that neighborhood, which ain't too good. Lay low 'til coast is clear, ride out in a trunk or back seat under a blanket.
ReplyDeleteHow come no reward is being offered?
ReplyDeleteSooo...they shoot and kill a guy for a little pot in his car but a wanted 'known felon' disappears? Is it me or is there something seriously wrong with this picture? Anyone know of any empty inhabitable islands in the Bay?
ReplyDelete12:06 Hold on here, the one with 'pot' injured a trooper, put his life in danger. Yes, he took a fatal bullet, that happens when you play the game he did, and apparently had done for some time. Best part of the outcome, no taxpayers supporting him with three hots and a cot!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the passenger who was with him when he pulled into the parking lot? Haven't heard anything of him since his presence was announced.
ReplyDeleteCheck his people out in San Domingo
ReplyDeleteHe has a lot of people in Crisfield too
ReplyDeleteHe is probably related to one of the Somerset County commissioners.
