A Letter To The Editor: SPEED CAMERA HORROR STORY
On 8/29/2013 my wife was issued a “camera” speeding ticket in Fruitland. I promptly mailed a check. On 11/25/2013 I received a past due notice. I called the phone number listed and someone named “Shawna” verified that the check had been received. Today I received a “vehicle flagging notice’' demanding payment plus various charges in order to renew my licenses. I called the specified number and customer service does not answer. I called Fruitland Police who advised me they have NO connection with the speed enforcement system other than receiving a share of the money. What can I do next?? How can this non-government organization have such governmental power? How can they operate with such autonomy? The first opportunity I can move out of the state of Maryland I am gone.
Bye
ReplyDelete8:03AM, how rude. Rather than try to get to the root of the problem, you tell this person bye. How considerate of you.
ReplyDeleteMost people would make a copy of the cancelled check and prove to whoever that you paid for it... easy, simple, etc..
ReplyDeleteLot of thought went into that response 8:03.Maryland is proud of you.
ReplyDeleteGet a copy of your cancelled check & go to the Salisbury office of MVA with any notices and you need to talk to a supervisor.
ReplyDeleteCall the King he loves those cameras! They like to share the money! Also check the Fruitland website and go to one of their lunch meetings ( workshop ) and complain
ReplyDeletethere are phone numbers on the letter you received, and they do answer if you call them and have patience! You received that letter and fine, due to the fact you paid the fine late. It could be due to the mail, but it was paid late!
ReplyDeleteHe paid it in August, received a notice in November. How is that paying late? Comprehend much?
Delete9:08 I don't see where he said he paid the fine late. It says "promptly". Shawna said that they received the check - he doens't say she said they deposited the check. There may be no cancelled check to show.
ReplyDeleteI think the best thing would be to call his delegate's office since they are operating under a state law and MVA is involved.
Go by the camera and smash it all to hell with a sledge hammer, or better yet, rip it off the ground with a chain and a big truck!
ReplyDeleteAwe come on, don't you like the new People's Republic of Maryland???
ReplyDeleteThis state is becoming the true joke of the liberal left.

Call superman Lee Outten he can fix it for you.
ReplyDeleteOutten is king ahole
ReplyDeleteIf you all have not figured out who the King of Fruitland is yet just go to the City website and look at the council meeting agendas and schedule your lunch time off so you can attend. They have more meetings or so called workshops now since the King came to town than ever in Fruitland history! I have no idea why these people don't work during the day like everyone else! He will get very angry if you say anything about the lunch thing because he has time off and nobody attends anyway! He says at lunch you do not have to pay employees so it works better. What they do is get the details worked out and then vote Unanimous at there SCHEDULED night meeting for the dog and pony show! Check out the Landlord Ordinance on the web page it is a JOKE! Not even listed and they are getting ready to vote on it! Sad State of affairs Taxes and Speed Cameras but he did what he worried about for years LOWER THE WATER bills! You can't make this stuff up!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, there are 5 people on the Council. The idea for licensing was brought up by two people and the "king" you are talking about has been against it every time. While you are busy checking out the ordinance, look at the minutes and see who was in support and who was against it. Open mouth, insert foot. HAHA
Delete12:03-The King will reveal himself at a later date.Until then he will strike from the shadows. That's what he does best.
ReplyDeleteThey must have banking hours at the FPD. I called about 130am and no one answered.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who works with King at his regular job he will answer because he has a very big ego! People just go to the Fruitland City Webpage and check out the Landlord ordinance they have met at least 6 times for absolutely NOTHING! He may not answer but he reads this blog everyday like the rest of us County Employees! He may answer at a lunch workshop!
ReplyDeleteRead the minutes and see who is in favor and who is not. The proof is in the minutes.
DeleteUPDATE: I am a stubborn old fart, I admit it. After calling abt 30 times, I held the line open for 1 & 3/4 hours listening to "You are next in line!!" Suddenly a very pleasant human voice answered. Almost scared me speechless. Seems that although the check had been received, it had never been "posted" to my ticket. She PROMISED to cancel the late fees and charges, Un-flag MVA, and cancel MVA's service charges. But they had also promised to fix it last November. Time will tell....
ReplyDeleteDolt!! it has a camera but if you keep your bat swings under 38mph it should not set camera off
ReplyDeleteThey did get L.E.O.P.S. and a new police building out of these cameras lol. So to say they have nothing to do with this just will not flush. Mikey get the cameras under control you are the Chief. Now act like one. The town that calls itself a city lol.
ReplyDeleteActually, the person you are referring to is the only one that voted no against the landlord thing. He also voted no for adding more police officers. You really should get your facts straight to get more credibility. The rest of the bunch followed suit and voted yes for all of it. I was at the meeting tonight as a renter and he stood up for us. Sounds like somebody is jealous.
ReplyDeleteJoe......Just to set the record straight on a couple of items here, I did not vote for the cameras (in fact, I wasn't even on the Council) and I do not support and did not vote for Landlord Licensing. I fought it as hard as I could. I spoke with dozens of taxpayers about this ordinance and had/have concerns over how the implementation of this ordinance will only create a bigger government and really do nothing more than the International Property Maintenance Code that we passed less than a year ago does for us not. The only thing that Landlord licensing does is basically allow an inspector to gain access to your home and inspect every 5 years. We don't need to grow the size of the government right now. We also were proposed with the idea of taking a 4 year police grant position and making it permanent. Again, we can't afford it right now, I voted no, the motion passed to allow it 3-2. Although l think our Police Department does an excellent job, but we have enough officers and just can't afford it. The time of the work sessions are set by the entire group. Personally, I do not see anything wrong with them being during the day if that is when it works for everyone. If the particular poster who seems to be so obsessed with me that has posted half a dozen comments (for whatever reason) looks around, government work sessions are held during the day. Nothing out of the ordinary. To that poster, you need to get a life. I doubt seriously that you work with me. While you are busy worrying about agendas and times....click on the minutes page and you can see what actually occurred at the meeting and who supported what. There is an election coming up in October, feel free sign up...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lee Outen
