Unreal
An injured Army vet has won an employment discrimination lawsuit against the FBI. Justin Slaby of Stafford lost his hand to a grenade explosion during an Army training accident. He then applied to be a special agent with the FBI. Slaby says trainers at the FBI Academy in Quantico discriminated against him. He says they forced him to shoot a gun with his left hand but did not impose the same requirement on other candidates. The FBI has transferred one supervisor involved in the incident. It has refused to comment on the ruling.
Swallowing Your Own Medicine
Talk about swallowing your own medicine: The Office of Personnel Management has published a proposed rule explaining how members of Congress and their staff will choose health coverage for next year. No longer will they have access to the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan. Instead, lawmakers and their direct hires will pick a plan through the new health care exchanges that go online Oct. 1. That's because Congress included the requirement in the Affordable Care Act. Unlike the general public, those on Capitol Hill won't be able to take advantage of tax credits. But they'll still get contributions from the federal government, as their employer, to defray the cost of the insurance premiums.
New Hampshire Woman Who Lies About Dying Father To Get Out Of Ticket Arrested
Carley Williams, 28, of Nashua, spun a tale so elaborate about rushing to the hospital to see her father with stage four cancer that State Trooper Christopher J. Cummings let her go — that is, until finding his obituary online dated five years ago.
A New Hampshire woman who sobbed her way out of a speeding ticket by claiming she was rushing to her father's deathbed was arrested two days later when confronted with his obituary — dated five years ago.

Amazon Is Selling This $1.45 Million Monet In Its New 'Fine Art' Section, And The Reviews Are Hilarious
Amazon's new Fine Art and Collectibles section just launched yesterday, and it is already getting less-than-stellar reviews.
One of the most vocal opponents is economist Tyler Cowen, who says that much of the art is low quality and overpriced. "It looks like dealers trying to unload unwanted, hard to sell inventory at sucker prices," he wrote on Marginal Revolution.
Most of the items by famous painters — including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Míro — are lithographs, mady by a delicate printing process that uses oil and water on an aluminum plate to make copies. Since there are multiple renditions available, these are usually much less expensive than a typical painting.
But there are a few original paintings for sale. The most expensive is a Norman Rockwell for $4.85 million. There's also a Claude Monet painting titled "L'Enfant a la tasse, a portrait de Jean Monet" from 1868 available for $1.45 million.
The Monet is getting particular attention from Amazon reviewers who find the new section — and its prices — absolutely ridiculous.
Below are some of the best comments about the painting.
"L'Enfant a la tasse, a portrait de Jean Monet" (1868) by Claude Monet.
"USED? PAINTING HAS CRACKS!"
"For as much as I paid I'm a little upset that this isn't a new painting. You can see OBVIOUS cracks and I'm worried that the artwork has had several owners before me. I might return to Amazon if I can't get in touch with the seller. 1 out of 5 stars."
"stupid"
"BUYER BEWARE: THIS ITEM IS IN FRENCH. There is no English version. I purchased this product and couldn't understand a word of it."
"BUYER BEWARE: THIS ITEM IS IN FRENCH. There is no English version. I purchased this product and couldn't understand a word of it."
"The meme has no caption!"
"Pros: Delivered as promised, packed well.
"Pros: Delivered as promised, packed well.
Cons: Stupid picture of some kid, and it's old. And the kid that painted it left their signature right on the painting where everyone can see it; ego much?"
Overall: This was a waste of money, I'll never buy any memes by this Jean woman ever again."
"Eww, as if"
"My friend Dionne advised me against buying a Monet, and I should have listened. From far away, it's okay, but up close it's a big old mess."
"My friend Dionne advised me against buying a Monet, and I should have listened. From far away, it's okay, but up close it's a big old mess."
"THIS IS THE REAL THING, BEWARE OF "MANET" RIP-OFFS!"
"I've been a fan of Monet since the early days and this is a serviceable example of his mid-period stuff, not too fancy but gets the job done and gives an idea of what he's like for people who aren't ready to make up their minds about Waterlilies or Impression, Sunrise. But I really wrote this review to warn casual searchers that some bunch of opportunists are trying to rip off the unwary or inexperienced browser by flooding Amazon with their cheap replicas, under the confusingly similar name "Manet". Remember, it's "Monet", with the "o" that is the real thing. Apparently it's permitted by the Terms of Conditions for people to sell "Manet" product, as long as (when pushed!) they admit somewhere in the fine print that their "Manet" paintings aren't genuine Monets. Seems as unethical as hell to me, but I guess all we fans can do is warn the gullible."

"Amateur Hour"
"I was seriously considering purchasing this item, but I can't get beyond my suspicion that the artist doesn't know how to draw hands. The clumsy attempt to hide them behind a misshapen bowl just screams AMATEUR."

White House Tours Cancelled, But Lobbyists Still Get In
Students seeking a tour of the White House have been locked out due to sequestration, but lobbyists looking for help from President Obama have found an open door.
The White House cancelled all tours, effective March 9, 2013, citing budget cuts necessitated by sequestration. But the work of the White House must go on, so President Obama met with Tony Podesta, one of the top lobbyists in D.C., on April 18, 2013. Podesta’s 2013 clients, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, include: Google, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Solar Reserve — an Energy Department loan guarantee recipient tied to Solyndra – and some of the energy drink companies that Senate Democrats have recently decided to target for increased regulation, such as Monster Energy and Rockstar, Inc. (White House visitor logs say that 412 people were in that meeting, so it seems likely Podesta was there for the Greek Independence Day reception hosted by the president.)

Berlin Little League on ESPN At 3pm
UPDATE: Berlin's Game Postponed Till Saturday
Due to rain, the semi-finals of the Mid-Atlantic Regional baseball tournament in Connecticut have been postponed until Saturday. Berlin will play in the second game with the first game at 2 p.m. Saturday. ESPN is still expected to televise the game, according to early indications.
The Dispatch
UPDATE: Berlin Little League Game DelayedRain has pushed back the 11 a.m. start of the other semifinal not involving Berlin this morning up in Connecticut for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. We will update when we know of the new start time and whether it will still be televised on ESPN or an associated network. Berlin was scheduled to play at 3 p.m. but the weather delay will push that back.
Picture courtesy of Berlin Little League Facebook Page |
Berlin jumped out to quick 2-0 record in pool play last weekend with a narrow 5-4 win over New Jersey in the tournament opener on Friday, followed by a 6-2 win over Delaware last Saturday. After an off day on Sunday, Berlin was back in action on Monday morning against Washington D.C. with a chance to improve to 3-0 and all but assure themselves a spot in the semifinals.
The top four seeds among the six teams in the region would advance to the nationally televised semifinals, and at 2-0 with two still to play, Berlin appeared well on their way to advancing. However, Berlin dropped a couple of tough games on Monday and Tuesday and fell to 2-2 in pool play. Berlin had to wait for final results in other games on Tuesday to find out if it would advance.

The Architect Of Destruction
"Obama comes from a community organizer background where it's us against them. But that's not who we are. And that's not the position the leader of our Nation should take."– Dr. Benjamin Carson
Obama appears to be a tormented man who is filled with resentment, anger, and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate and maintain power and control over others. Perhaps because, as a child, he grew up around family members and mentors who instilled him with an abiding bitterness toward the U.S. That bitterness seems not to have left him.
It is not the color of his skin that is a problem – for anyone in America. Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country.
Think: Have we ever heard Obama speak lovingly of the U.S. or its people, with deep appreciation and genuine respect for our history, our customs, our sufferings and our blessings? Has he ever revealed that, like most patriotic Americans, he gets "goose bumps" when a band plays "The Star Spangled Banner," or sheds a tear when he hears a beautiful rendition of "America the Beautiful?" Does his heart burst with pride when millions of American flags wave on a National holiday – or is he moved to sadness and reflection when someone plays "taps" on a trumpet? Has he ever felt the depth of our admiration of the military, as lovers of those who keep America free feel when soldiers march by? It is doubtful – because Obama did not grow up sharing our experiences or our values. He did not sit at the knee of a grandfather or uncle who showed his medals and told of the bravery of his fellow troops as they fought and tramped through foreign lands sacrificing for a cause greater than their own lives. He didn't have grandparents who told stories of suffering and then coming to America, penniless, and the opportunities they had for building a business and life for their children.

Employers Show "Strong Distaste" For The 3 Million Long-Term Unemployed
There are still more than 3 million Americans who have been unemployed for more than 52 weeks and, as WSJ reports, economists (via recent studies) worry they will never work again. Of course, with benefits at such heights (and work punished), it is not surprising but on the demand side, for the long-term unemployed, interview "callback rates decrease dramatically at 9 months of unemployment." Worst still, for those applying for medium-to-low skilled jobs (so the majority), being long-term unemployed reduced interview requests by 20% - the equivalent of shaving four years of work experience off their resumes. Critically, one study found employers showed "a strong distaste for applicants with long spells of non-employment."

State To Look Into Alleged Racism In County Department
Maryland's health secretary says the department will investigate allegations of racism against the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
Dr. Angela Wakhweya, who is African-Americans, was fired as county health officer by the county council in January.

Blue Cross, Aetna, United, Humana Flee Obamacare Exchanges
(CNSNews.com) – Major health insurance companies--Blue Cross, Aetna, United, Humana--have decided not to participate in various states in the Obamacare health-insurance exchanges that will be the only place Americans will be able to buy a health insurance plan using the federal subsidies authorized under the Obamacare law.
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare), every American must buy a health insurance plan that meets minimum government specifications. If a person does not get health insurance through their employer, and is not on Medicaid, they can buy insurance through their home state's insurance exchange (which, depending on the state, will be run by either the state or federal government).
States will also operate exchanges where small businesses can buy health-insurance plans.

40 Years Of 'The Unbearable Heaviness Of Being' An American Taxpayer
When federal spending grows faster than American's paychecks, the burden of government on taxpayers becomes greater. Over the past four decades, Americans' earnings have risen only 24%; while spending by the government has risen 288%, which begs the question - where did it all go?

OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY
He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,
He sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he once fought in and the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, every one.
And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer, for ol' Joe has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer for a Soldier died today.
He won't be mourned by many, just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family, going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing, 'tho a Soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing, and proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell their life stories from the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier goes unnoticed, and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country and offers up his life?
The politician's stipend and the style in which he lives
Are often disproportionate to the service that he gives.
While the ordinary Soldier, who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension, small.
It is not the politicians with their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom that our country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger with your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out with his ever waffling stand?
Or would you want a Soldier, his home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier, who would fight until the end.
He was just a common Soldier, and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us, we may need his likes again.
For when countries are in conflict, we find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:

OCEAN CITY GHOST WALK - Friday - Saturday August 9 & 10th
MARION STATION, MD - On Friday, August 9th and Saturday, August 10th, author Mindie Burgoyne will lead a 1.5 mile ghost walk through the lower historic part of Ocean City. This will be the eighth Eastern Shore ghost walk in the Chesapeake Ghost Walk series she launched in January of this year. Burgoyne will have researched and crafted nine walking tours focused on folklore, hauntings and tales of the dead by the end of 2013. "Ocean City" she says, "was the most difficult to research and the most rewarding."
The Ocean City Ghost Walk will begin at the Indian at the Inlet and end at the Henry Hotel, making a circular sweep from the Inlet to 4th Street. In between stops will include the Ocean City Lifesaving Station Museum, the Ocean City Pier, Trimper's Rides, the Atlantic Hotel, the Tarry-A-While Guest House, a Fisherman's Cottage, and the Shoreham Hotel. Burgoyne hopes to have more than a dozen stops with rich, "ghostly" tales at each one. She will impart a loose but powerful history of the town as the setting and then tell stories about unexplained happenings, apparitions, and tales of the dead ... in some cases, the walking dead. Burgoyne also challenges the guests to examine their own psychic abilities and discover whether or they tend to be more clairvoyant (seeing apparitions), clairaudient (hearing things from the spirit world) or clairsentient (absorbing feelings from the spirit world).
This Ghost Walk is the first ever for Ocean City. Mindie Burgoyne has spent months researching and interviewing to gather the information needed to craft a tour. "It was very difficult and I wasn't sure I could get enough material to put a tour together." Burgoyne states. "Ocean City isn't as old as the other towns on my Ghost Walk series. And while there's a rich history and many historians willing to share information, there isn't an accessible legacy of storytelling or folklore - at least not on the surface."
Burgoyne conducted twenty-six face-to-face interviews when preparing the tour including Sandy Hurley from the Lifesaving Station, historians George and Sue Hurley, Charlie Purnell from the Atlantic Hotel, Brooks Trimper from Trimper's Rides (and several Trimper's staff) and welcomed help and advice from Glenn Irwin of the Ocean City Development Corporation and Lisa Challenger, Director of Worcester County Tourism. In addition the formal interviews, Burgoyne conducted dozens of phone interviews and combed through genealogical records and the folklore collection at the Nabb Research Center at Salisbury University. The end result is a walking tour that highlights ghosts of hoteliers, sea captains, opera singers, fisherman, ghosts from shipwrecks, suicides and several ghosts believed to be Ocean City legends .... who just aren't willing to leave, even though they're dead.
The Ocean City Ghost Walk takes approximately one and one half hours to complete and guests will walk about 1.5 miles. Good walking shoes and weather-smart clothing is suggested. Cost is $15 for adults and $9 for children 8 to 12 years old. Advanced registration and ticket purchase is required. Guests can purchase tickets on-line at http://travelhag.com/product/ghost-walk-ocean-city-md-friday-aug-9-2013-800-pm Each tour is limited to 25 people and likely to sell out. There are 4 tour options - 2 on Friday evening (Aug 9) and 2 on Saturday evening (Aug 10).

Critics Blast Jackson, Sharpton Over Silence On Florida School Bus Beating
Self-appointed civil rights leaders and celebrities remained mum on the vicious beating of a white sixth-grader at the hands of three older African-Americans in Florida, despite a growing chorus of critics who called their silence hypocrisy given their recent, racially-charged condemnation of the Sunshine State.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who both blasted Florida in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting and the acquittal of George Zimmerman in Martin's death, with Jackson calling it an "apartheid state" and "our Selma," have not spoken publicly of the brutal beating aboard a school bus caught on cellphone and surveillance video. Neither Jackson nor Sharpton responded to requests for comment from FoxNews.com.

More Speed Cameras Eyed For Wicomico County
SALISBURY – Despite a few flaws, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is looking to expand the speed cameras in school zones after finding the program to be successful in slowing down speeders.
According to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, in October 2009 the State of Maryland authorized the use of automated speed monitoring systems in school and highway work zones.
The system uses radar technology to measure the speed of every vehicle that passes the camera. Vehicles found to be exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 12 miles per hour will be photographed to document the violation and determine the vehicle’s registered owner. After the violation is reviewed and approved by a deputized officer, a citation, including the violation photos and the vehicle’s speed, will be sent to the registered owner. The maximum fine is $40 for each violation. No license points are assessed and vehicle insurance providers are not notified.

Obama On His ‘Bromance’ With John McCain: ‘How A Classic Romantic Comedy Goes’
On NBC’s “Tonight Show,” Jay Leno asked President Barack Obama, “Is it me, or do I see kind of bromance with you and John McCain?”
Speaking about his vanquished 2008 rival, the president said, “That’s how a classic romantic comedy goes, right? You know — initially you’re not getting along, and then you keep on bumping into each other.” The line caught some laughs from the audience.
Leno followed, “What changed? Who saw the light?”

WE’RE ALREADY LIVING UNDER MARTIAL LAW
The description below of martial law and when it is usually imposed does not meet the circumstances in our country today, but the government has silently imposed martial law while the American sheeple were distracted by their iGadgets and Reality TV shows. The DHS has been arming local police forces with military level weaponry over the last few years. The military has been conducting military training exercises in cities across the country. DHS has been stockpiling ammo. DHS locked down the 6th largest city in the country searching for a wounded teenager and went into homes without a search warrant. We are treated like prisoners when attempting to fly on a plane. The NSA is monitoring everything we say, type, or text. Drones are flying in our skies observing our every movement. Random checkpoints are set up on our roads where we are harassed for our papers. The government propaganda media keeps the masses fearful of imminent attacks. If this isn’t martial law, is it freedom?
Martial law is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis. Martial law is usually imposed on a temporary basis when the civilian government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g., maintain order and security, or provide essential services), when there are extensive riots and protests, or when the disobedience of the law becomes widespread. Fundamentally it is a requirement put on civilian government when they fail to function correctly. The imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice to civilians.
